---really piss me off. If you really had somewhere to be just answer the question and move on. Don't tie up the checkpoints with your video camera setup and your overhead visor conveniently removed so we get a clear shot of the officers. These checkpoints are setup for a reason. This is not nazi Germany. They are looking for illegal immigrants...a real problem in this country. Some times a little of your personal freedom needs to be given up for the benefit of others.
I wondered if the guy filming this trying to make a point and prove his freedom in the country was realizing he was infringing on other people by slowing them down just being an asshole?

Get behind 10 people who want be like him while your waiting to pass through and see if you have the same feelings. A simple interview process that should have taken 15-20 seconds he truned into 2.5 minutes at each checkpoint.
Because that is the law in some areas. Why should I stop at a DWI checkpoint?
Why?
personally, I think this guy has a great point. But, the officers also treated him with a great amount of respect throughout the process. They have to follow the current law and this is their job. So, actually, the grunting back at the officer was the only part I felt was immature and stupid.
so your issue is waiting in line vs. whether or not one should have to prove they're a citizen...
I'll wait in line...
I do agree the grunting at the officer and tossing "nazi" into the conversation is over the top...
No not at all. He wants to be an asshole complaining about how long he had to wait in line fine, I just find it ironic instead of just answering the question and moving along becasue he was "so busy" he chose to sit at the checkpoints and waste more time of his and other people behind him being an asshole. I don't think it's out of line for citizens to show proof of their citzenship in areas of high illegal immigration. As a matter of fact, I don't see a problem with it anywhere. I go to the movies I have a ticket. I leave and go to the concessions, I may have to show the ticket again for readmission. I just don't see the problem that some people are creating with this policy. :?
I don't agree that one should be randomly stopped and asked to prove citizenship...even in areas high illegal immigration...
and your ticket analogy does fit here....sorry...I don't by a ticket to drive on a public highway...
he gave what he got, the officer grunting was immature and stupid
SO you don't agree with DWI checkpoints then? Or checkpoints where they just check to make sure your inspection and registration is current?
Actually in New York where I am and a lot of Northeastern states you do buy a ticket to drive on the highways.
And to further that point, your ticket to drive on the highways is your license. So yes, you do buy a ticket and by law you have to show it to a law enforcement officer whenever it's demanded and you're driving.
no and no
They should stop passenger scanning at airports too right.
are you talking about a toll...?
not sure what that has to do with being stopped and being asked to show you citizenship...
no they shouldn't...
not everything is the same thing...
you know that, right...?
Finding illegal immigrants is a real problem and this can help. Just like finding potential terrorists at an airport is a real problem. Anyone that has an issue answering a law enforcement's question about your citzenship and wants to make it some type of "rights issue" is just an asshole. Answer the question and move on. Oh my God, the horrer...it may actually remove some illegals...the horror!
fail
you keep changing your reasons for disliking this fellow...
Personally I don't think illegal immigrants are the boogeymen that you think they are...
if I'm not doing anything wrong, i.e. driving down the road and obeying all laws...I should be pestered by law enforcement...
Well unfortunately sometimes an individual will need to be "pestered" for the good of society and if answering a law officer's question about my citizenship when I'm in that particular country is considered being pestered than that's fine with me.
And about the illegal immingrant issue. Move along the southern border...California, Arizona, Texas, etc. and tell me then it's not an issue.

"However, in a split decision, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the Michigan court. Although acknowledging that such roadblocks violate a fundamental constitutional right, Chief Justice Rehnquist argued that they are necessary in order to reduce drunk driving"
That is disappointing

This isn't against you but as a political science major I really hate when modern issues try to get translated word for word by documents that were written hundreds of years ago. Like people arguing that you should be allowed to talk/text when driving because it's freedom of speech and all that blah blah blah. :fp:
Plain and simple for me. Road blocks aren't a bad thing. If you're doing nothing wrong, you have no worries. I guess the point of me posting the video was the irony that all the guy kept saying was how busy he is but yet instead of just saying yes I'm a US citizen and being on his way, he wanted to make up "his circus" and be a wiseass in the process.
