Agreed, I saw them in Houston last April I believe, which was the 2nd time they had toured for Handwritten. I'm going to try to talk work into sending me to Phoenix for a work trip when they play there.

Ya I want to see against me with them for sure. I think they were supposed to open for bad religion last year on tour and had to cancel or was that rise against? I forgot, but how much does the guitar on teenage anarchist sound like 38 special? Hahahahaha

Have played it several times. I like it! I think Get Hurt is better so far, that may change the more I listen to it.

I love all 3. Stay Vicious though is blowing my mind. This is definately the different direction they were talking about.

The tempo change, the solo, the lyrics. Just wow.

To me Rollin and Tumblin was not that off from traditional Gaslight and Get Hurt has a Horrible Crowes vibe. This song is totally new territory.

Holyshit, wtf was that? That was sick! Fucken heavy then melodic. If this is the new direction, I'm all in (not like I wasn't already) lol. I think it's fucken awesome that their songs tell stories. Brian has some story telling abilities! Can't wait for the home jersey show and gonna try to go to the philly show for sure. These guys are the fucken real deal.

First three songs have been like drinking with a schizophrenic person all over the board. That's in no way a bad thing though. I've been surprised with every track, can't wait to hear this record.

Perfect way to describe it! Got a ticket to the Toronto show in September, first time seeing them live and really looking forward to it. Glad to hear something fresh and new hopefully this album puts them into the spotlight I feel they deserve.

Just over two weeks to go till we all Get Hurt
The last PJ show I went to was the best PJ show ever, that is until they come around again of course

Anybody got a link to the Rollin song? I can't find a good video of it. But the 2 I've heard are fucken awesome! Can't wait till the home show in jersey. My favorite, I guess you can call them new although it's been a while band. I'm really picky on my music and these guys are fucken awesome. Dnt find to many new bands I like. And ever since I heard these guys years ago, I haven't stopped. Good jersey boys! Lol

The first time I listened to 59 sound I fell in love with this band. That album is perfect. The fact that these guys are literally from my back yard just fueled the fire.

Theyre on my list of can't ever do wrong. Right there with PJ and Ryan Adams (yes even ultra weird Ryan Adams)

Against Me! always put on a solid show. They play their songs so fast and back to back that they should be able to get a decent amount of songs in even though they are openers.

I used to love them sooo much. I listened to Sink Or Swim and Senor And The Queen all the time when they came out. Then I saw them live with about 20 people and Brian cried because we were all singing along to their songs. After 40 minutes they did an encore and had to play a song they already played before, because they already played every song they had. It was awesome!
The more famous they became the more dislikable and arrogant Brian seemed to me. Especially after what he said about people requesting songs at concerts and playing covers.
I like everything they put out before Handwritten.

I'm asking that if anyone would like to come to [our] show, please come because you want to see what we're doing on that night. Don't come to hear a cover, it probably won't happen. Don't come to yell at me when I'm trying to share something with the audience to reach out to them about something I feel is moving me.....

To the spiteful reviewers… just remember no one’s singing for you.

I’m asking openly and humbly that if anyone would like to come to a Gaslight Anthem show, please come because you want to see what we’re doing on that night. Don’t come to see Bruce, he won’t be there. Don’t come to hear a cover, it probably won’t happen. Don’t come to yell at me when I’m trying to share something with the audience to reach out to them about something I feel is moving me. For some reason I’m the one with microphone, which may be a mistake entirely. But if you want one and have something to say, please start a band, get in the van, sleep on floors, and work your butt off and maybe one day I’ll find your band and I’ll come see you play.

Why are they playing cover songs then?

I'm pretty sure I was at the show that caused that statement. I would think Brian would probably take most of that back now or probably reword it if he had a chance.

The crowd sucked and was very rude. I personally think that they over toured for Handwritten and were road weary by then.

There whole career they have paid tribute to their heroes musically and lyrically. The 59 sound album is obviously riddled with references to all kinds of bands, songs and even specific lyrics. Personally I think that's what makes that album great but what it did was force comparisons to all those groups in pretty much every interview and review they get.

Bruce showed up at their Asbury Christmas show once and now everyone thinks everytime they play NJ he will be there. That would annoy me too.

I think he just wants the band to stand on its own and it gets frustrating. That's why they are specifically headed in another direction for this album.

I can certainly see someone being turned off by those comments though. Remember though guys like Jack White and Ryan Adams have done stuff like this their whole careers. It's doesn't mean they still aren't great. Hey, even Ed wasn't always the happy cell phone stealing selfie taking guy he is now.
