He has to learn that not everything they record is gold. If you have such success with what you do, you have to be prepared that you'll also get bad reviews and that not everyone is pleased with your work.
To the spiteful reviewers… just remember no one’s singing for you.
After Handwritten I don't expect anything great from them, but I will give it a try anyway.

I take it that you did not like Handwritten? Have you heard the 3 singles for Get hurt? I love them but they are definitely different than anything they have done in the past, which I think is going to be a big/great step for them.

Handwritten had a few great songs on it, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first three records. Let's say that Handwritten just wasn't my cup of tea.
I heard the new ones. They're quiet good and totally different from anything before. What I really appreciate about Gaslight Anthem is that they found they're own unique sound and every record was diffrerent. It goes from Punkrock (Sink Or Swim) to Pop (Handwritten). There's for sure no lack of creativity. I think it's great how a band can evolve but remain true to their sound.

I love them for "We Came To Dance".
Yeah I get the not your cup of tea thing. I think this new record will be thier best evolution yet.
I completely agree, We Came To Dance is only beaten by 'Say I Won't' in my book.

I have it on excellent authority that Gaslight will be playing John Varvatos Boutique in the Bowery (the old CBGB) on 8/7.
These are usual invite only shows but they also always have contests to get people in, so keep your eyes open if in the area.
I'll be there and have a full report.
Dude, please keep me informed as I'll do the same. Not far from cbgbs. Would live to go to bleaker at see this show
There is no way I would make this unless i take off 2 dys from work, and that's not gonna happen if i don't have a ticket in hand... Have a great time and know that I am uber jealous ha

I absolutely love Gaslight Anthem. Seen them x6 already and have tickets to 3 shows in november (UK), however, there new stuff hasn't really blown me away. Felt Rollin & Tumblin was a continuation of Handwritten, and Get Hurt could have been Horrible Crowes. Really diggin' Stay Viscous, though having heard there cover of "Sliver" it's hardly groundbreaking
Hoping for some amazing album cuts.

Love Stray Paper and Helter Skeleton . 1000 years and underneath the ground are nothing like anything they ever did. If you thought Stay Vicious was a departure wait until you hear these. I like them but they are surely different.
Haven't made it to the second half for the second time yet but I did really like Red Violins, Ain't that a shame and Dark Places right off the bat.
The biggest decision I will have to make his week.... Try to download it to my phone and 'half-listen' to it while I work? Or hold off til 6pm tonight and fully listen to it at home? I think I'm gonna wait...

Stream is up on ITunes.I'll say this after zipping through this album I really liked it. I think it will definately get better with more spins.
That being said it is 100% the different direction they promised. It going to be interesting to see how the hardcore fan base reacts.
Thanks mike! Got some tunes to listen to today and the anticipation is killing me. This is the album I've been waiting for and hopefully it'll be sick!
Hopefully some of you NYC guys checked your email 45 mins ago.
Yeah i wish I did.... I would have to take 2 days off of work to make it from MD so I resigned myself that I''m not gonna make it. But my friend put in and she might need me to go as a +1 so I might suck it up depending... haha

I was stuck in a 3 hour meeting and did not see the email until 4 PM so bummed. I am just listening to the stream for the first time as we speak. So far so good.
It gets better and better if you ask me. I think even though we were told to expect something different the first listen was a little more jarring than subsequent ones. This album has a lot of layers and really good song writing.
Also, there will be another show in NJ next week. Announced Friday. Don't know where or when but not the Pony as far as I know

I've listened to it about 3 times through. Love dark places, helter skelton, stray paper. I like the rough edges and I think its going to continue to grow on me even more. Like someone else said there's alot going on. I hear some U2 in Alex's guitar lines. About the only thing i don't like is the new version of Halloween. Its like they fixed the production on the first part of the song, but then ditched the best part when the big guitars kick in.
