This is one of those bands that I just cant get into. I've tried more times, over and over. This was one of my must sees at Lolla in 2012. Dud. I love people are digging this new album, Gaslight Anthem just doesnt do it for me......again.

Well the fact that it's better than LB isn't exactly saying much. I wouldn't put it in my top 5 over the last year but it's certainly right outside. I think it's their most important album to date and especially when you look back this will be the turning point.

To each is his own. People feel differently when they hear songs, so I'm not suprised. Def in my top 5.

How many people were there? What kind of banter/stories did Brian tell between songs?

It was a great time. In my opinion, the new songs are much much better live, mainly because it "sounds like them" if that makes any sense. To me whoever produced this album seemed to want to make them sound like a different band on a lot of songs. I was very impressed. A lot of passion came through live that is hard to see listening to the album.
The show/environment itself was a little odd. Sure, it was CBGB, but if you'd ever been to the actual CBGB like I had a few times it was very strange. They packed way too many people in there. Me being one of them I don't mind admitting that. Once you got 3-4 feet inside the door it was nearly impossible to move from there. The music/stage banter was nearly inaudible from there as well. IN order to hear anything, you had to fight your way at least past the bar. For example, The 59 Sound was playing while I was in the back and I didn't recognize it until about half-way through. Crazy for such a small space to have such limited sound. What didn't help matters is that there were mobs of people who were there who didn't care if they were there or not and weren't interested in the band at all and just talked, talked, and talked more. Needless to say, the back section near the front door was just an awful spot to be. Was infinitely better once devising a plan to move closer in where one could actually hear the music. There wasn't much stage banter I think mainly because it was a short set and their time was probably limited. It was a pretty awesome experience, and the open bar was pretty awesome (although they gave you drinks in baby cups so you had to order 3 drinks to get a normal sized drink). 1000 Years and Dark Places were just simply incredible.

Awesome! I really love the album versions but I like knowing that it sounds like them more live. That really excites me.

How were theyer people there that didn't care?! I thought this show was very exclusive...

I can't even count how many times I have listened to this album this week. There are so many great songs and even better perfect specific sections of songs. I love the 'becomes, becomes' part of stray paper. The chorus of 1000 years is definitely a highlight for me. "Why don't you feed on me tonight". Dark Places will be such a great closing song.

Friday morning I woke up humming Helter skeleton. Saturday I woke up singing underneath the Ground, and yesterday I was tuned into Stray Paper. That really says that there is staying power with these songs if they stay in my head all night.

In complete agreement Frank. And also totally agree with Dustin's comment that live it sounded more "gaslight". That's not a slight on the album at all because I do think the album sounds "different" but it also fits perfectly into their catalog.

I cannot wait to hear Brian sing/yell this, cause everytime I hear it I want to yell it haha

Is the whole band going to be doing autographs at Vintage Vinyl, or just Brian?
    What should I ask him/them?

"Talking snow for days with your friends in LA"
Do you interpret this as bragging to your friends about something they don't have? Or being an expert on something they don't know anything about/never experience? Or something else?

Just decided to check out the OTHER MUSIC section on here and love to see that there is a GASLIGHT ANTHEM section. I love this band and love the new album. Can't wait until I can actually own it tomorrow. Also gonna see them Oct. 16 in Chicago, just a few days before I see Pearl Jam in Milwaukee on Oct. 20. Octobers gonna rock!
