I think he really does believe it, which is the scary thing.

He is the candidate of the American Taliban Party.
It's certainly possible that he believes it in theory... but I've noticed that when politicians get into issues like this, they are actually battling with themselves. How many times have the "family values" freaks been found out for practicing the exact opposite of what they preach? I.e. being outed as gay (going to gay prostitutes, no less), or cheating on their wives, abusing their spouses, and so on and so forth. I'd bet a buck that Santorum got on this issue because his wife found his stash of hard core porn on his laptop or something and now he's trying to repent and "fix the error of his ways" or something else equally as sick. That's kind of how it tends to go with these types.

I'm not making a statement on whether or not porn should be watched really, and certaiy not that Santorum might have anything of value to say, but I'd like to just raise the issue of how the porn industry can be very damaging to the people within it, just because I think some people make so much light of it, as though it's all just sexy fun. I don't want people to totally ignore the fact that the industry ruins the lives of many young and lost women. 99% of the women in the industry are not those shiny happy porn super stars who are happy with their lives. Most of them are hurting and lost, and badly damaged emotionally by what they go through after getting into the industry (or being lured in to it). Many end up being prostitutes quickly, many, many end up addicted, in abusive relationships, etc. Many are 18 year old runaways, others victims of sexual abuse. I just think it's important to keep all that in mind when standing up and fighting for porn.

Yes, consenting adults should be able to choose... but industries that exploit vulnerable women and regularly tend to send them down a path of self-destruction isn't exactly something to gloss over either. I wish people would think more about that when they joke about porn or get off on some girl who actually ran away from home where she was sexually abused by her step dad or whatever, and found immediate "acceptance" and enough money to live when she was told she could be a model and why don't you come to my place for a "photo shoot". It is a seedy industry that hurts people. Jenna Jamieson is the exception, not the rule. I just think an awareness of this side of porn is important to have when making decisions about ... your porn use?

supreme Court says pornography is anything without artistic merit that causes sexual thoughts; that's their definition, essentially. no artistic merit, causes sexual thoughts. hmm. . . . sounds like . . . every commercial on television, doesn't it?

When they show 'The Godfather' on T.V., they can't show Michael Corleone's bride's tits on the screen... yet, we get to see Sonny machine gunned down at the Highway Toll Booth.
    ...
American priorities... guns, not tits... I guess.

    Yeah!

Fast Times - we can watch Spicoli getting wasted, but NOT Phoebe Cates' famous slo-mo-removing-bikini-top-after-exiting-the-pool scene? In their *ahem* lovely fullness?

And yet, asses seem to be OK....a la NYPD Blue and several other programs/films aired on tv.

    Gotta love the double standard.

And have a 1/1000th of a second nip-slip at a Super Bowl Halftime Show and you get slapped with a monsterous fine... but, 1/2 an hour after the game is over, it is okay to have the cops on 'CSI:Miami' talk about the female victim who was raped repeatedly with a splintered 2x4 before having her face cut off with a pair of bolt cutters.
It is pretty incredible how nonchalant we are about violence... but, one tit pops out and fucking assholes act like their hair just burst into flames.
    Why is that?

it is to desensitise you to violence in order that youll be ok with state sanctioned violence whereas sex is bad... very very bad. we can not have everyone being comfortable with their sexuality.. we cant control orgasms.. but well try our darndest to make you feel dirty for having one. its a wonder babies are born as often as they are.

"sex is bad" is ridiculous...we are talking hard core pornography

way past 'gee don't have sex at all', more like don't rape and sodomize the girl scout
coming to the front door selling cookies
just to mention one hard core pornographic scenario.

This stuff is garbage and very bad for society but even worse for those who are already sick
or those impressionable growing up to be sick.
Many individuals appear healthy ... waiting for opportunity...
it knocks as we are seeing with sex crimes.

Let's tantalize the psycho and then in shock and disgust and in unison
scream 'what is wrong with our world!' when a little girl is abducted raped and murdered.

We as a society have condoned this behavior, we have allowed violent sex to permeate
instead of protecting and requiring moral conduct that does not involve degradation
towards some members of society, those of least power, our women and children.

And why have we done this? Some would say for a noble reason, freedom of speech,
but actually it is for money and lust. There is nothing noble about portraying rape.

do you think stranger rape is about sexual gratification?

Legislating someone else's morality isn't ok. It is plain and simple. It isn't ok to do it. Namely because there will never be enough. It will always be pushed...
The internet has made it easy to bypass the age restrictions on people watching porn, so then...why not ban the internet? It facilitates teens ability to watch porn...not to mention drug deals, anonymous sex, theft, prostitution, all of it...we should ban its use here in the US because of a small number of people in relation to the population. I mean...Most people use it responsibly but because some don't we should ban it all. No one can enjoy it...I mean kids can use it...what about the children?

does Amsterdam have a rape problem I am not aware of? Some VERY weird shit happens there...Couldn't it be It is more likely that people who some consider morally bankrupt gravitate to it along with those who use it for "other" purposes.

Come on, rape is rape it is sexual violence towards another human being
    period.
Is it about power and sexual gratification together and separate
depending on the need it fulfills.
It's not ok to promote rape in our society. It's not ok to portray rape.
One reason why we have an epidemic of rape. It instills a mindset.
Wonder how many fantasize about raping?

    Your example not mine
As far as the internet and hard core violent porn
yea it should be banned no not the internet
the content that portrays the raping of another human being
    on the internet.

    My example
Just like guns right? We have gun laws to protect the innocent to protect our
society but not take away all the guns correct? No one would want to ban all guns.
That could not even be considered cause most people can use them responsibly.
It is a few out of millions who will not.

So we need some laws to ban some hard core porn in the same way.
No one wants to ban all porn. That is crazy.
We are speaking of hard core porn depicting violence towards woman and children
maybe the poor animals too
Who wants that garbage around anyways.

I don't know who wants it around, it doesn't do much for me, but I am not everyone and my morality isn't the choice for everyone else...
Can you prove to me that watching violent porn causes rape?
Santorum isn't talking about just violent porn, by the way, he is using the general sense of porn, all porn.

if you want to enforce your morality you have your choice of where you can do it. You can enforce it in your family(the best way) you can even try to influence your friends, or choose your friends based on your moral code...but you cannot simply legislate your morality onto others. It isn't right.

Back to my example from the internet, the internet facilitates all sorts of "immoral" behavior...and unlike assault rifles...it isn't easy to simply ban hardcore violent pornography. it is called the WORLD WIDE WEB for a reason, and if someone in a country without obscenity laws is creating the porn and posting it online...people all around the world can view those things. The only real way to ban it is to take down the actual medium by which that stuff is disseminated.
You might find it morally reprehensible, but simply saying that violent porn causes rape doesn't mean it does. it isn't the sole cause of rape and it shouldn't be censored. Again chicken/egg...do people watch that porn and become morally deficient, or are they morally deficient so they seek out the porn?

And that does not in any way condone rape. It condones the right of people to live their lives without harming others. what's next...call of duty? rambo? violent video games? rap music? rock and roll? all these things are blamed for moral decay as well, should we ban them? What is the difference between this argument and the argument against hip hop? or violent movies? or the alcohol? ...it can go on forever...
I realize you yourself are not arguing for the banning of these things, I am just wondering what the difference between someone saying violent porn causes rape so it should be banned, and violent video games cause murder they should be banned...
