pandora you didn't respond to my question...by your logic should we start censoring or banning religion since it leads to children getting raped? or at least come to some sort of consensus on what is too religious to save our kids? i mean we've got clergyman raping kids now what's gonna happen next?
It is true entire religions are being held accountable for just this
and people on their own are banning with their actions and loss of faith.
I am sure many here would like that to happen and perhaps have felt it should
for the children's sake....
we may have even discussed this in the past
I might not disagree with that either.
Realistically what you speak of would probably happen before porn though
if we've learned anything about viagara and cialis prescriptions is that many humans would place sex as more important than anything. so yeah take my god away but don't take my sex or ability to watch it away is probably about right.
porn stays. santorum goes. and i am not even into porn. it is a thing called free speech and the like. adults are perfectly capable of posing nude for camera or film and it is that simple. adults are perfectly capable of buying porn and it is that simple.
if he wants to bad hard-core porn he best be wanting to ban certain music.
whoever this guy is, he is definetly not the brightest dude in D.C. and or politics
porn is here to stay. if he and his people don't like it, to fucking bad, others do. you can not ban pornography because you believe it is terrible, Santorum. what you can do is not look. close your eyes and go home.
Ya know, politicians that run on the moral platform usually have a gay lover hiding somewhere, or other scandalous secret he's hiding...
yep, i agree. with his claim of being such a paragone of virtue and trying to legislate morality....one can't help but think he almost has to be hiding something
he still needs to stay out of an adult's choices to look at porn
wouldn't doubt he likely has a HUGE porn collection himself...and some lil teeny weeny thing
All right you son of a bitch, you just crossed the line!
I've stood by silently as Santorum has urged to bomb Iran, kill gay rights, spout off about intelligent design, talk about ending separation of church and state, and many more controversial subjects.
I caught the word "illegal" pornography in the article. If he's talking about films with children, animals or anyone against their will, then I'd agree. Otherwise, leave it be!
I used to watch a fair amount of porn awhile back...not so much anymore; it just doesn't tittilate me like it used to. But hell, if others want to - I say have at it.
Are there Vegas odds out that say when Santorum is going to be:
A. Caught with a big box 'o porn (including/not including 'Boner Jams '07' ) in the trunk of his Ford Fiesta
B. Caught in someone else's house by Chris Hansen of 'Dateline NBC'
C. Busted soliciting man sex in a filthy public shithouse stall at an airport in Omaha
D. Caught sending picture of his nob via Cell Phone to Snooki
E. Revealed as one of the participants in 'Tampa Bukake - Spring Break 2009'
Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!
Hail, Hail!!!
There's as much chance of porn being banned as the state of Alabama converting to Sharia law.
Is there really much difference between Sharia law and Old Testament-style rule? 'Cause that appears to be what them stupid bastards are trying to do here in Alabama.
Them people really piss me off.....our fucking choices for this congressional district was a racist career politician who made racist comments while wearing....as on his very own body....a wire for the FBI....the tape was used in Federal court testimony...or the crook who used his role on the House Banking committee to make money on the economy going in the tank...fuck wads....the whole lot....Rant over....and leave my porn alone.

if santorum bans porn i want him to also tackle the gratuitous violence in tv and movies...he wants to protect kids??? really???
gimme...I am guessing you are familiar with the show, but last night on The Real Deal with Bill McNeil, Bill had his eyes and ears opened to rap music and he did not like what he heard...BAN IT!!!
I just don't get this guy...he wants life, not just politics, his way and no other...How is that consistent with the "American Spirit" he claims to love...laws have a basis in some forms of social norms, but they should be, at their core, protection for you from me and vice versa. how is this the case with anti-obscenity laws?...if a parent wants to teach their own kids that sex is wrong or whatever else, that is up to them...but their morality shouldn't take away my choice on the matter if it isn't harming someone else. Some may argue that porn harms the people who watch it...I would argue back then DON'T WATCH IT. I think it is much more harmful to teach young adolescents that sex is dirty and wrong...I am so sick of people trying to legislate their morality as if it should be law...why go out of their way to stop others from enjoying their own lives like they want if no direct harm is being felt...
that’s right! Can’t we all just get together and focus on our real enemies: monogamous gays and stem cells… - Ned Flanders

- Joe Rogan
Direct harm is being felt with hard core porn though ...
what if a child's parent does no teaching ... and it it not "sex is wrong" we are speaking of
it is hard core porn
each minute a woman is raped in our country do we think there is the possibility
of slightest correlation?
children are abducted, child sex trafficking, under age prostitutes...
younger and younger these men want their virgins... sick
all this goes hand in hand with a degrading morality, this was not around
50 years ago... it is escalating.
I know Santorum is far far right which is not where I sit but I want some common sense
laws to protect the children and women in our country.
I want a world where respect for another's body is number one ... we live inside them.
Pandora, they consent to it. They gave their consent to disrespect each others bodies. If a parent isn't good enough that's just too bad; and I know that sounds very harsh. Once again, you can't deny people their rights. They made a choice... If they didn't consent to it then that's a different story, obviously. What about the children that are parentless? They all must watch hardcore porn too.

I agree, porn has been around far longer than 50 years and eliminating it now will never make it go away. Let's say our government eliminates it will it stop or reduce rapists, child abductions, child sex trafficking or prostitution..no and HELL NO.
Those who are in charge of their children parents like myself are the ones who will and should be protecting them from pornography not our government like the right like to say.

Porn, in some form, has been around longer than 50 years.....pornographic comic books, known as "Tijuana Bibles", date back to the 1920's. Rape and child abductions probably existed before recorded history. Sex trafficking is a new name for slavery, which also probably dates back before recorded history....and there's a reason that prostitution is called the "world's oldest profession." No government has never, ever removed all of these ills from society....and Mr. g under p is correct in stating that the banning of what is widely described as pornography will have effect on the previously mentioned problems.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

I don't even understand the connection. If anything porn is a release that REDUCES the likelihood of all these terrible things that pandora mentions.
I'm done with this too. See ya.

to the part in bold on top, How? How are people directly harmed by porn they can choose not to watch and choose not to participate in, up to and including scat videos and all that fetish stuff. If people are willing participants what is the problem? When people are forced into that stuff that is already a crime and the laws are enforced. That has nothing to do with obscenity. Sex with underage kids is already a crime, do you think that the obscenity laws Santorum is talking about would have a direct impact on lowering the number of cases out there? Why not ban the internet, it facilitates some of this stuff. I bring it up because common sense isn't the same for everyone. i think it is common sense to be my kids parent and not rely on laws. (not saying you do that or anything) Common sense laws are not the same for everyone and just because Santorum thinks something is immoral doesn't mean that it is illegal.
Also, rape is rarely about sexual gratification. Date rape maybe, but do you think date rape came about because of hard core pornography, or do you think date rape has been around for a long time?
Protecting children has nothing to do with the obscenity laws he is talking about enforcing. The only thing that he is interested in is enforcing HIS moral code on the rest of the country...that isn't ok with me. If you can show me a direct link between watching porn and those things you talk about, I may revisit my stance. The problem is, I don't think you can show me a direct link. All I can say, and it certainly is an equal generalization as saying porn causes those things, is that ...
I watch porn. There I said it...I know for a fact I am not alone. If the majority of the people, and that is a VAST majority, do not participate in the things you talk about, how can pornography be at fault? Moral decay is a subjective thing. I honestly don't think people are any more depraved now than they ever have been in the past...there are just more people and information is much more readily available.
If you only think that child porn, rape videos, etc is hard core porn than I would agree with you...but in the general definition it is basically porn that shows penetration I think..do you honestly think that is causing a decay of the American culture?
Things can correlate all over, but if we ban these then there will be another sacred cow to ban. Do you think rap music has caused inner city crime or do you think rap music talks about the lives of those in the inner city? it might influence children a little, but isn't it then up to the parent to show the kid right from wrong? The us government isn't my parent.
I know we will probably never agree, but to me freedom means having the choice...not having that choice isn't freedom, it is someone else making choices for you...I think enforcing obscenity laws is nothing more than pandering and placating an audience that honestly believes things like porn are causing the decay of morality.

I agree.
While the link above your post provides a lot of information that I can somewhat agree with, regarding desensitization, learned depraved behaviour, addiction, family damage, etc etc.....Even tho the information in that link is ancient (pre-internet, with footnotes only up to 91 or so), I don't think it is the role of the government to regulate what I can or cannot choose to see. Personal choice, personal responsibility.
I see it as no different from drug policy, or any other laws affecting personal freedoms that can be abused to personal detriment (and to family/friends by proxy)....There needs to be a LOT more effort put towards education regarding the dangers involved with these behaviours, and less worrying about regulation. Some of this stuff is so stigmatized that it actually encourages the behaviour by sweeping it under the rug. I highly doubt many people are willing to stand up and shout 'I'm addicted to bestiality porn, someone help me cause I'm starting to think that sheep looks mighty fine!'....haha, right? Well...not so funny when it comes to more serious/dangerous/harmful fetishes.
People like Santorum would prefer to keep this stuff out of the light, force people further underground, cause them more shame, and keep the cycles repeating. We need to focus on peoples' mental health more than the symptoms. Every vice-driven policy in our society should be focused on harm reduction and root cause, more than simply ignoring, or attempting to eliminate, the ugliness that results from them.

it's known romney is but who knew that santorum is a mormon too...
might it be that link from the LDS church on porn likely be skewed to it being bad?
I was really skeptical about that too....but after reading it with an open mind...I didn't even bother checking up on the source, because I can't argue with much of what it says. It's not exactly a 100% academic approach, and like I said, it's using old info....but....it's not really morality-based either....other than assumptions of 'normal' behavior.

Great posts, both of you guys. Thank you
it's known romney is but who knew that santorum is a mormon too...
might it be that link from the LDS church on porn likely be skewed to it being bad?

It was around 50 years ago it just wasn't reported as much because of the prevalence of media there is today.
Rape is about power, not pleasure. Porn is about fantasy and pleasure.
flags went up to check the source when i got to the part about how the clinical data was collected and the "deviant" cases the data was taken from. and it is quite old info
yep...i agree with what you said in your last sentence
