Santorum wants to ban hard-core pornography

All right you son of a bitch, you just crossed the line!

I've stood by silently as Santorum has urged to bomb Iran, kill gay rights, spout off about intelligent design, talk about ending separation of church and state, and many more controversial subjects.

But this ... this is complete nonsense.

He must be stopped at all costs!!!

hard core is trash in my opinion
but who would define that ... can we get a little common sense to protect our children?

    thought not ...

we can throw away the disposable kids and the good parents will teach the rest
(that was a weak attempt at sarcasm)

I have little experience with porn ... prefer romantic comedies that trigger the heart

I feel a massive eye roll out there

I guess alienating most women voters wasn't enough, now he is going after the men, and the free speech advocates?

Keep on keepin' on Rick... You are at least making this GOP nomination process entertaining.

There's as much chance of porn being banned as the state of Alabama converting to Sharia law.

On some issues - this guy makes me want to vomit. Not only do I think his social issue approach is silly, I really feel it's insincere. It's one thing if you actually believe this stuff. I don't think he does. He just peddles to crowds - particularly religious ones.

I think he really does believe it, which is the scary thing.

He is the candidate of the American Taliban Party.

Santorum has his role here... it's far right ... as far as one can go against Obama
hoping to defeat him with this approach

personally the far right lack common sense as do the far left but thats just
    for me

do politicians believe what they preach?

in my opinion no many do not.

Many are players, saying what someone wants to here
hardly ever answering a question straight on, dancing around the question
    and issue.

Is there a class in college for this ;) cause most seem very schooled in it.

Is "extremist" the right word here, though? A guy who wants to ban hard-core porn is an extremist? Is someone who finds hard-core porn distasteful also an extremist?

I think he's misguided and unquestionably pandering, but not an extremist. Once we start down the road of inflammatory statements.... I think we mix messages.

I think disliking it is fine, but wanting to ban it IS extremist. What legal basis does he have for banning it?

I don't like Justin Bieber, but I think banning him would be extremist.

He seems to go back & forth between "obscene illegal pornography" and just plain old "pornography" like on late night Cinemax. Where does he draw the line? The better question is, why is it up to him? Yes, he is most definitely an extremist. He doesn't have the violence of the Taliban, but the message is similar. I'm not using hyperbole here - his views really are in many ways similar to some of the Islamic regimes.

By the way, anyone who thinks Obama represents the extreme left is completely disillusioned.

it depends on how we define extremist ... to me it's when one subscribes to a doctrine that is religiously based and intolerant ... the story in morocco is an example of extremist behaviour ...

the attack on gay rights and exploitation of christianity is alarming ... santorum appeals to this religious right conservative crowd ... these are the people that want to ban porn, ban gays, ban books, rewrite history, etc ...

a guy like that only gets airtime because he has a following ... and he has a huge one ... relatively

Ok. As I said, I completely disagree with Santorum here. I think his viewpoints on stuff like this is garbage.

That said, more directly to your point... when President Obama's administration was set to "ban" asthma inhalers over environmental concerns, was he an extremist?

I mean what's worse: hardcore or asthma inhalers?

My point is simple: terms like "extremist" can be used both ways and it solves nothing. Santorum's side on this issue has all sorts of holes. Why not focus on the issue instead of name calling? That might actually convince someone on the other side, rather than immediately making them side with Santorum.

Also - aren't conservatives for more personal freedoms? They don't want government intervening in their lives?

I'm confused now, cause Santorum wants to ban activity between consenting adults.

Just curious... do you consider a general citizen that finds hard-core distasteful an extremist? How about someone who believes that gay marriage is distasteful?

Well, in US politics, libertarians are the only party for personal freedoms pretty much across the board. Conservatives side with that sometimes, liberals do sometimes. But, sometimes, liberals and conservatives think the government should impose their will on the private citizen.

This is an example where conservative thinks the moral good supports government intervention.

For porn? No. Gay marriage, I believe that they are bigoted and against rights of others.

I think supporting a ban is what makes them extremist. Just because I don't like something or am offended by it doesn't mean it should be banned. I think Rush Limbaugh is extremely distasteful, however he should have the right to say what he wants.

no they are only for personal freedoms when it comes to money so they can bend the rules their way and pile up enough loot for 20 lifetimes. beyond that conservatives like Santorum want to control everything.
