We are the last generation that learned to play in the street.
We are the first that played video games, see cartoons in color and went to amusement parks.
We were the last to record songs of the radio on cassettes and we are the pioneers of the walkman and chatrooms.
We learned how to program the VCR before anyone else, play with the atari, nintendo, and believed that the internet would be a free world all on a 56kbit modem.
We traveled in cars without seat belts or air-bags.
We rode our bicycles down the road without brakes or helmets.
We never had cell phones or pagers but still kept in touch.
We did not have play stations, 99 television stations, flat screens, surround sounds, mp3s, ipods, computers, and broadband, but nevertheless we had a great time.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

Love it! I feel bad for kids today, they have no idea what they're missing out on. (Okay feel like an old maid saying that but it's so true!)

My girlfriend and I were recently going through old audio tapes that we used to make of ourselves during sleepovers when we were kids...so hysterical! Do kids today even know what tapes are?!

I know I'm not much of an 80's kid (born in '86) but I absolutely miss snail mail!!
It's exciting to go to your mailbox and see a random letter.
Now all I see are bills and junk mail

I'm not OCD, but how disgusting was it, in a way, that we used public pay phones? Phone booths were kinda cool but when you think about it, pretty dirty.

We're the first generation where writing school reports on the computer was mandatory.

 good point! Of course nobody cared then and if you got sick, well tough shit. There's something to be said for not being treated like a hothouse flower....we were more resilient as kids I think! :D

when I was in 4th grade, we had to write our book reports in cursive...in PEN. oh how I loved that new awesome invention 'erase-able pen' and that shit smeared all over your hand!

by jr. high computer was required....

    or water fountains at school?

Also kids now seem so fragile, I didn't wear any safety gear and jumped my bike off every thing, got scrapes and bruises and stitches a few times, but now one fall even with all the gear... brain concussions, broken bones, and or worse?

I hate how teachers always said you HAVE to learn cursive now because as soon as you hit High School, that's the only way you can turn in reports/assignments. Really?? I never used cursive at all after learning it..don't really find it necessary unless i'm scribbling notes.

haha we would ride the back of pickup trucks on the freeway too....in hindsight it probably wasn't a great idea, but we managed to hang on tight enough I guess

Great thread! With my 30th b-day tomorrow I have been very nostalgic lately. I long for the the days of pop rocks, alf, teddy ruxpin, lite brites, and woolly willy(the magnetic doodle thing).

And of course, online porn was limited to trying to view the scrambled cinemax (skinimax!) channel.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.
