LukinFan, you should know that he was the singer of Screaming Trees throughout their career, until they disbanded in 2000. They're one of the earlier grunge bands, and in my mind have some pretty good stuff. However, I recently heard in an interview with Mark that he said he wasn't satisfied with the Trees' sound until their second to last album, Sweet Oblivion. He said that at that point he felt the songs finally had a natural feel to them, and that in terms of songwriting that is where he had always wanted the band to be. I would advise researching the things he has collaborated on, as it will give you a great idea of how diverse he is and how capable he is of working outside of any particular box.
My ears agree with Mr. Lanegan's assessment. I could never get into Uncle Anthesia or any of the earlier work. Sweet Oblivion is really good, Dust is a masterpiece, and Last Words is an unexpected gift from the archives.

Clairvoyance is a great album too, as well as their one and only release with Sub Pop, Change Has Come.

Agreed about Dust. That album is awesome. I am so glad that Last Words finally surfaced too.

Sounds like it would be a big effort on your part but it will be worth it if you can make it work.

He's doing a signing session after every show. I didn't go last night but I think some of us will try and meet him in Hamburg next week.

The Creature with the Atom Brain is the support. Mark did a song with them on one of their albums. I only caught the last two songs but they seem pretty good.

A couple of t shirts but they aren't great. He has 5 live cds for sale at £12.

1 is the band in an Antwerp studio. Kind of like a live rehersal playing mostly songs off Blues Funeral - 11 tracks in total. Its a good cd.

The other one I got was Mark at Hollywood forever cemetery - a solo acoustic show (haven't listened to that yet)

There is one show he did at the Barbican I think with Isobel Campell. I think there is a ltd 10" vinyl of this show for sale too. There is another solo acoustic show at Union Chapel and the last one is one with a full band from 2010 I think - Voxhall.

I think I will pick another 1 possibly 2 next week in Hamburg.

The creature with the atom brain have their cds for sale there but cannot remeber the price. Blues Funeral is also available on vinyl at the show and you can get it signed by Mark after the show :D

Picked the vinyl up at Grimey's here in Nashville and used the download code and first listen I really like it. I'm excited to get home and spin this record.

  • The Dublin show was solid. Nothing particularly amazing. Just missing that...spark.
The Belfast show was jaw-droppingly amazing. Seriously amazing. Mark sang from the depths of his soul and the band were tight. Mark seriously dredged up some real emotion in Belfast. He achieved greatness that night.

Well, it took some time but I finally got a pre-amp for my record player today to get it up to appropriate levels for this new receiver I got for Christmas.

I've concluded that "Ode To Sad Disco" and "The Gravedigger's Song" sound better, at least to me, on vinyl format. I like them being just a tad bit slowed down I guess is what it is.

Some listening parties for our friends in the US and Canada:

I was lucky enough to have one of these listening parties where I live. They spun a test pressing which they raffled off afterwards (I didn't win :-( ) and the first handfull of people to preorder the vinyl got an autographed Gravediggers Song 7". Loving the album and getting Mark's autograph was definitely a bonus. Anyone know if he signs very often? Just curious how rare this 7" might be.

Lanegan has been doing a signing session at the venues straight after the show on this tour. He's done this at every gig. I got a coupole of cds and my ticket signed in Hamburg. Before this tour I would have said it was very rare yeah.
