I think most of us might superize each other when we find out how different we are in person apart from the train.

but to think because we all listen to pearl jam we all share the same opinions, awareness and/or desire to become aware is in my view shortsighted. and even perhaps a little naive.

I agree completely, much the same as I'm sure not everyone who listens to Britney Spears or Bieber is a complete moron. ;)

There's a difference between someone thinking the death penalty should exist, and someone saying 'I love the death penalty'.
There's also a difference between someone thinking the death penalty should exist, and someone saying 'I love the death penalty' in a thread that had nothing to do with the death penalty.

For someone to say they love the death penalty, they need to be fucking sick in the head. It's a pity that you fail to see that.

Anyway, that was just one example. I could also have mentioned people coming on here calling for Muslims to be bombed - "bomb the motherfuckers, and then again, and again, and again" - or people coming on here saying how gays makes them sick, or how Palestinians are nomadic terrorists.

This kind of twisted, racist swill just doesn't sit right with me in relation to a band whose views are diametrically opposed to this bullshit.

"Actually we are a vulgar, pushing mob whose passions are easily mobilized by demagogues, newspaper men, religious quacks, agitators and such like. To call this a society of free peoples is blasphemous. What have we to offer the world besides the superabundant loot which we recklessly plunder from the earth under the maniacal delusion that this insane activity represents progress and enlightenment?"

"I repeat again, anyone who supports state sanctioned murder is human scum. If you support the clinical snuffing out of a persons life in the name of a warped and hypocritical notion of justice, then you are part of the cause of everything that is wrong with the human race."

That doesn't really allow for any discussion. In fact it stifles it. And you cannot even hope to change people's minds unless you allow them to speak.

We do not kill people to who kill people to show killing is wrong. We execute people as punishment for murder only after they have been found guilty of capital murder by a jury of their peers and exhausted their many appeals. It takes 15 to twenty years to execute someone.

Do we kidnap and lock people up to show kidnapping is wrong? No. It is the rule of law that we all agree to in order to live in a civilized society. If you break the law you will be punished be it a small fine or all the way to death depending on the severity of your crime.

No, it doesn't cover it. The U.S legal system is inherently flawed, and racist, and the death penalty is sick and barbaric. You also execute innocent people, and the mentally ill.

It's way beyond time the U.S stopped this state-sanctioned murder of it's own citizens in the name of a warped sense of justice, that has more to do with revenge and blood-lust than anything else, and began practicing some of that Christianity that it loves preaching at every opportunity.

And what does any of this bullshit have to do with the death penalty, which is what was being discussed?

Are you just upset that I ignored your earlier personal attack on me? Was that personal attack prompted by the fact that I reminded everyone of your homophobic rant in a previous thread? Is that what made you spit your dummy out?

And the fact that I don't tolerate bullshit doesn't mean that I'm unhappy or filled with hate, as anyone who's ever met me will tell you. It just means that I don't tolerate bullshit and bullshitters, of whom there are plenty on this part of the message board. If people don't like being called out on what they post then they can simply stop posting bullshit. Life's too short for ignorance, racism, bigotry and homophobia, and I'll call people out on it everytime. And I don't care if you don't like it.

and yeah, when i wrote that, every canadian id ever met sucked. But that changed at PJ20....parties with some cool Canucks.

My problem isn't just with people voicing racist, homophobic, bigoted, war-mongering opinions. If you read my OP again you'll see that I also have a problem with all the constant trolling and baiting going on here lately. I find it irritating, disappointing, and pretty pathetic. I think fans of this band can do better than this.

But never mind all that. Maybe you should just focus on me instead. It's always easier just to slag somebody off instead of responding to their views/posts.

I'm pretty sure there are many people who would lfeel much more comfortable if this place resembled Youtube's comments section. They way they wouldn't have to deal with such pesky things as honesty, respect, or facts. Spouting bullshit and attacking people is much easier.

Maybe what this place needs is one or more of the following:

    A mediator.

    A time out for everyone.

New brake pads and a rearviewmirrow.

A party and everyone is invited and we're gonna have a good time.

Meanwhile, somehow it keeps on rollin':

i think the train went to shit the moment this became a closed forum to the public (ie Membership Required) ... i know you remember when that happened ... the number of folks logged in to AMT dropped by about 75% immediately following that.

    Never recovered, imho.
    :(

kinda sums up my feelings too. frankly, I don't post here as much as I used to (nowhere near like I did from '03 to about '07) because it seems like there's a much smaller audience and everyone who is still here already knows each other's opinions for the most part and we are all already set in our own opinions anyway. i also don't know if its worth getting into politics on any other board, or on facebook, or anywhere else, because so many people just seem set in their ways, almost like it's a condition of their genetics. but i keep polemicizing anyway, because... maybe 1 or 2 will change their mind? i really don't know why. good thing is, less time on AMT means I actually check to see what goes on at the Porch... actually, that's not a good thing, what am i saying? ... :P
