  • Man, what a gig that was! My first indoor Pearl Jam gig too. I don't know if anyone was at Reading but they were way better at Bercy. Seemed like Mike wasn't really at the races at Reading.

Tell you what the whole night, outside of the gig, was really messed up though. Got a later flight from London than we should have as my mate only wanted to use up half a day's holiday. Then the flight got delayed, and we had to get money sorted and such, so only got into the venue about 15 mins before PJ came on. Hadn't had time to find a hotel so had to take the bag we had in with us. Then there weren't any cloakrooms so we had to look after the bag in the corwd, hwich meant we could only go down the front in turns.

So then anyway we didn't have a hotel booked, and din't find one that wasn't "complet" until about half one in the morning. Doh! Got to practise my French though.

Sounds like it was mental down the front early doors - really upset I missed out on that. It was pretty crazy when I dived in for Even Flow and You Are, but my mate was at the front for RearView, Go, RITFW etc at the end - lucky *******!

Have to say though, some of you guys need to toughen up your mosh pit skills! Going to a couple of punk gigs in the next few months would be the perfect medicine. May I recommend Pennywise, NOFX and Less Than Jake for this purpose.

hmm, that's what i have thinking, ed was cleary looking in my direction !!

i was far far, but not really, at the porte P, in the first rows ... i really enjoyed my first pj gig. and the best week of my life ! Paris was fuckin'smelly, and i always don't like my morning jacket (... no comment), the waiting drove me patient... thank to pearl jam and the pj teams ! thanks to the fans who were fantastic, the crowd was like a big wave, all my pics are shit but wtF i have all the show in my head, i really hope the "Container" will be update tomorrow!
good night, hope to see pj a second time soon, maybe in england in february ( i leave my work start 2007 and i think have more money, this week ruine me!! (the mercure hotel was fill of costume men dressed up, arrg boo!! and 8 euros for 2 drinks near the PO ?!! fuckers!)).
    PEARL JAM FUCKING ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!
  • can't download the boot yey, don't know why.........?

well my girlfriend got me the tickets as a surprise for my birthday in july. we drove to london from bristol and got the eurostar across to paris. we stayed in austerlitz, on the banks of the seine, which was cool. Anyway, the gig....... my lass doesnt really get pearl jam, so she didnt know too many songs. we were right at the back, stones side of the sound desk. great view, and plenty of room to get a groove on. no surprises in the set, but it was so great to see them again. i thought the crowd were cool, very pearl jam, very mellow. i was the guy sat on the steps outside afterwards giving his mrs a footrub (got a few strange looks for that)lots of happy sweaty people, real nice mellow vibe. does anyone know if they plan to c ome back to the UK soon?

    OH YES...
  • I was not able to get a ticket for the Dublin gig (sold out in 8 minutes) so I got the Paris one and booked myself into the city for a 7 day holiday along with my wife and 2 kids.
Well on the third day some fuck lifted my wallet. God but he was a real pro. I knew it was gone at 2 seconds but he disappeared into the crowd.
OK lost credit cards and about Eur250 but was I lucky I did not carry that most priceless item....the PJ ticket.
    So the gig.............just brilliant.
The set list had that surprise with 5 tracks from Riot Act which I really appreciated. Highlight was Mikes performance on Even Flow which was imo the best Ive heard through 20 boots or so.

Now, with the Bercy boot playing, just sit back, close my eyes , bottle of red of course and enjoy again the planets best band doing what they do best.

man i think everyone who didnt get a ticket for dublin flew to paris!! there
were a scary amount of us over there and with 2 tricolours makin the stage
too was pretty sweet! i did talk to some girls from dublin, lads from cork and
a couple from the north! what a night! even though i eventually got a ticket
for dublin (thanx again 2 mystery helper!!) both gigs were amazing and even
tho i was 3 from the front, in line with stoney i still cant pick between the
    two gigs!!

i just hope we all dont have to wait another 6 bloody years!!!

  • When the Euro tour was announced i was disappointed at the lack of UK dates, but me and hubby decided to take a long weekend break to Paris in September!!
I had an absolutely wonderful time at the Paris gig. I was about 9 from the front near Mike at the start - but only lasted 2 songs & had to move back cos there were some idiot blokes pushing etc & it got a bit scary!
Once i dropped back and to the side a bit it was fantastic - the view was amazing and i had room to breath and dance!!
The set was brilliant - i was v pleased they played a few Riot Act tracks and some off of Pearl Jam too. Was blown away with them playing 'Thumbing My Way' - they hardly ever play it now & i couldn't have imagined that they would play it!!
The cover of 'You've got to hide your love away' was brilliant.
It was totally awesome at the end too with both 'Rockin in the free world' and then 'Yellow Ledbetter'!!
I have got the boot of the gig and can't stop listening to it now!!
I am just waiting for the UK 2007 tour now!!
  • great to see the reviews still coming in! bootleg is awesome!! what a night! i hope they do some back to UK or Paris either will do!

Listening to the boot now, what memories,i did originally have a seating ticket with my friends but i learnt my lesson in 1996 when i only had a seating ticket for Wembley and i was miles away.So i went on ebay and got myself a standing ticket for £35 which was money well spent ( i would have paid £100 for that) but it was great to see so many different nationalities there at the gig.
    London 1996 Cardiff 2000 Paris 2006 and London 2007.
  • Yep the bootleg is awesome. The riot act songs just sound unbelievable on this boot!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully, they will be around in the UK next year.....
  • been listening to the boot...got choked when i could hear us all singing after black had finished...that was sweet...........it was amazing, listening to it, its hard to believe i was there at the front...amazing

I really don't think "a lot of people got hurt", it did get rowdy from time to time but seriously, all you had to do was step back a tiny little bitch, which is what i did, and then everything was fine.
It seems that some people just want to give lectures no matter what.

well i tried that too... but i couldn't step back since everyone around me kept pushing and i was stuck in between. but then, i am a girl and it seems that girls shouldn't be at rock shows. i don't really mean to complain but gentlemen please, show us some respect. took my brothers a whole song to drag me out of there.

as i said, i really don't want to complain, because after all it was the best night of my life!
i want to send a special thanks to everyone that i was talking to, very nice people. i was tired that night, had come all the was from sweden that day. but it was worth it and even more. so thank you, all nice people in paris, especially that guy who got my bottle filled with water just before the show. you saved my day, man!
    Good-bye for now.
  • I think it's Voltaire who once said: "God created the Parisian so that foreigners won't ever understand the French".

It was an overall good preformance, but very different from the Marseille show. The date was special, the place (Paris, France) was special, but the show was not.

Don't get me wrong: the band was good, Eddie was in a very good mood, Mike went over the top on several songs, Jeff was really pleased, Stone was OK and Matt kicked ass again (his solo on Even Flow was shorter and better than in Marseille) and Boom was.....Boom.
The audience and the venue itself were the real "problems": Bercy is too big for that kind of shows. Last time PJ came to Paris (for only one show), Eddy apologized to the people in the back of the crowd 'cause the show was supposed to take place in Le Zenith, in Paris too, a much smaller and intimate venue (there were to be two dates instead of one), but the roof of Le Zenith was about to collapse (it didn't and was fixed in no time, but the shows had to be moved to Bercy). The problem is still the same today: it's difficult to make eye contact with the crowd, the sound isn't that good, and there are security issues that need to be adressed and that aren't. I don't necessarily condemn crowd surfing, but I get real pissed off by those guys who stand on the edge of the mosh pit and who throw (not only push) people who are having fun in their own way (jumping or screaming or surf crowding): those guys never get hurt because they don't jump or crowd-surf, they just try to hurt people. Those are not French; they're not Irish; they're not Italian; they're not drunk either: they're just plain dickheads.

I was near the central railing, 15 meters from the stage, and was really safe there. I was surrounded by Italians and Scottish guys, by a beautiful blond-haired french girl with glasses and 15000 PJ fans (minus the dickheads aforementionned), I had my best friend with me and had a very good time. I don't care if it wasn't the best show of the european tour, and if the setlist was not a killer like in Marseille. I was there to see my favorite band and have fun. Trust me: I did

Thanks PJ for the wonderful parisian night.

I can relate to that. I spent all of Animal trying to drag my wife out. There were some people there who had no respect for anyone, but thanks to all the people who helped us get to safety. Complete difference to Leeds were there was a vastly bigger crowd but a lot less morons.

Loved Paris. We spent four days there prior to the show. We had been at Arnhem which was brilliant but were pretty far from the band. Had better seats in Paris but the crowd wasn't as cool as Arnhem but I was pleased that the setlist was very different. Parisians didn't seem very freindly towards us Scots though.

i was down the front at leeds and there was a hell of alot of morons tryin to make the crowd surge, u get 'em everywhere, i think it depends on where u stand, i didn't have too much trouble at the front at paris, had more trouble watching over my wife, making sure she was ok but she was giving shit to any bloke that tried to dislodge her.....what a girl!

Agreed sometimes crowd got a little bit too ...mental .....spotted one too many surfers and after an awesome ANIMAL the crowd relaxed a bit and so did the band ..eddy did look a little frightened/annoyed/worried for the first few songs but when they really got going everyone became hynotised and some unusual where the ***k did they pull that song from moments- YOU ARE being one of the wierd and wonderfull moments along with DISSIDENT and a rolliking LUKIN.
Ending with the double of RITFW and YELLOW LEDBETTER was brilliant such a climax.
It was a long show but having HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY and THUMBING MY WAY really gave it a few moments of respite so you could catch your breath for a great REARVIEWMIRROR and NOT FOR YOU .. and the usuals of ALIVE BLACK etc..... and some girl screaming
"theyre french they don't understand" throughout BLACK!!!crazy woman
so many highlights, so many to pick from, even PARACHUTES didnt seem so out of place(never thought i'd say that)
all in all a totally different gig to dublin in set, in energy, and errr the french!
a few sambucha shots vs a bottle of expensive red wine
a very enjoyable french red wine.....(so the crowd and set were like a mouldy bottle of grape swill! nice!)
Agreed should be more water at the gigs (paper cups!!)
only complaint about the show was that LOVE BOAT CAPTAIN wasnt loud enough-it diserves it give it some welly.....
great venue and hats off to those in the seats for dancing as much as you did.
i thought i was going to feint at one stage, heat and bass finally getting to me(towards the end) and a kind jammer next to me helped me out and gave me his water and watched out for me...... thanks to mr annoymus french fan
sum up weird set but not a single song i'd leave out and what a finale!

Hi i've been to this amazing great fantastic GIG that was my first and what a gig !!!!!! i'm writing this because i remember that i gave my water to someone wearing a red shirt i was on the right of the crowd wearing a black shirt maybe that's me i don't know. meant to type this ages ago but forgot.

Did any of the irish people that listen to the boot that can actually
understand our once native tongue that was spoken on the boot.

It was when eddie was starting his speach after m.i.t sand
if you listen at 4.38 as eddie is speakin french a guy shouts "conas ata tu"
which means (how are you) and as eddie says next line he shouts "ni thuigam"
    which means (i don't understand)
I thought this was fuckin hilarious when i listened to the boot first.

funny to those who understand it anyway.

you're dreaming mate...I don't know what the guy shouts but everything Ed says is in French...what he says straight after the guy is: 'Il y a cinq ans aujourd'hui' : Five years ago today (as it was 09/11)..
He can't even speak French without reading it, you're kidding yourself if you think he can speak gaelic out of the blue!
