I don't know of any venue where you can leave your bag...but then I wouldn't even consider taking a bag I can't keep with me to a gig..

The woman (sort of) at the gate made me check my house keys (for crying out loud). People were checking their bags and stuff. (But my friend was able to keep his keys.)
Maybe it depends on the gate where you entered.

Took me a bloody long time to find the claiming area, though.
    No signs, nothing.
It was much easier to spend 3 euros for a bottle of water that's worth 30 cents.
  • I have to agree and say I hate that all I can think about is the pain & voilence of the gig as opposed to the music. Unfortunately the bad seems to have superceded the good in my mind. I went back to my hotel & cried.... Sounds pathetic I know, but I'd been so looking forward to the concert, travelled from the UK, queued for a few hours, got a great spot, collapsed & had to be dragged out, & collapsed in the security men's arms (how romantic....) as I was so out of it I couldn't even stand when they got me out. Missed songs & Eddie's speech as I was laid up in the Paramedics room eating sugar cubes & drinking tons of water.

My post doesn't really have a point, just wanted to share my disappointment as I still feel miserable about it. RVM still got me going at the end tho :)

And I just want to add, the French people I met were really lovely, not just at the concert but all over Bercy during my few days there. The Nurse in the back was very sweet too :) I have absolutely NOTHING against any one from any particular country, just the people who are stronger than me who felt it was ok to crush everyone.

And I lost my best sunglasses out of my bag!!

heya stranger!!! anyway i was worried when the security took u over alrite as u just seemed to be out of it......i still dont know how emma withstood it
all?! she just had 1 guy in front of her and me behind her but i was proud that she lasted as i held onto her for dear life durin the crazy songs!!

its a pain in the arse bout ur shades.......as emma had them in her hand but didnt know they were urs........and it was pure fluke that her glasses and my programme found their way back!!

had a great laugh with u and louise durin the day and bein so close to the lads made it seem surreal for a while!! its a toughy to choose between paris and dublin tho;..........both mind blowing!

  • Well here I go again since I got no answer

Can someone be so kind and try to quote Eddie (in English) on what he said about 9/11
Btw why did the audience boo in the middle of his speech?

For the speech, I only understood the first part. Eddie's french was good but the last part didn't seem to make sense :

5 years ago a terrible event happened (in my country?). Your president said at that time : "We are all americans".

Then I didn't get what he said
    And he finished by :
"so that means we were a majority, so thanks".

I'm sorry for the middle part.

Got back to the Uk yesterday and boy did i have a great time in paris. This was the third time i've seen Pearl Jam and for me this was the best show i've seen them at but i'm sorry to hear people's problems with certain fans at the show.
I expect some crowd surfing but their was a few idiots who kept on crowd surfing time and time again, their was one guy who would fly over the top of people's heads and before security could grab him would purposely stop his crowd surf and try to get the middle of the crowd to do it again.I did'nt see anyone moshing with their fists just general jumping up and down which i enjoy doing.Security was'nt to bad (Metallica at Reading in 2003 were awful) but i could'nt understand why they did'nt pass out bottles of water to people in the crowd,i mean if you're 4 rows from the front and dehydrated then you're in trouble but overall it was an fantastic experience to see my favourite band in a city i've never been to before and hopefully the boys will come back over asap.

  • I totally agrée with this post!!!!!!!!
  • It was a very good show, totally different from both Lisbon shows though. I wasn't impressed with the crowd really. We weren't right up front but we were against the rail which split the crowd down the centre. First few songs were very difficult, certain people around us weren't respectful at all and it was tough to breathe. Animal in particular was rough.

I liked the setlist, great to see Riot Act get so much love in one night! Mike and Stone were just nutcases all night. Lukin started and all i saw was Mike running and jumping from one side of the stage to the other. It was crazy! I looked up a number of times at Stone and saw him duckwalking and smiling like a loon.

Overall, not as good as Lisbon but still a kickass night!! Here's what i've learnt from the last 3 shows i've seen:

    - Evenflow, Corduroy and Animal should NEVER stop being played! It gets everyone's attention and raises the energy level something silly!

    - Do The Evolution is probably my favourite live song ever. I wanna hear it at EVERY Pearl Jam show i ever see. Absolutely ridiculous. Singing in the choir is so much fun!!!!

    - The band certainly aren't acting like middle-aged folks. They have some serious energy at the moment, its scary.

    - I don't like the French. (I was surrounded by quite a few British people who were all really great, but all the crushing problems were caused by the French who just threw themselves into people and squashed anyone in a bid to get as close as possible. So not cool).

I can't wait for Verona and Milan!

  • I've been reading the posts and I'm going to add my thoughts as well...

Monday was my birthday (ListenToMyFootsteps - Happy Birthday to your friend) and what better way to celebrate by seeing PJ play. Me and my girlfriend have been following the band since they started and actually met because of them (ahhhhh) and this was our first concert together so special occasion.

Anyway here is my take on the moshing:

We were almost at the front of the stage and when the band came out you felt the electricity go through everyone. Mike was buzzing and within seconds they kicked off... so did everyone else. Normal so far. The unfortunate thing is that I only got to hear 'The waiting drove me mad' and then all hell broke loose! I don't care who the people were or where the fcuk there where from but it got really worrying at one point. Fight for your life came to mind and I swear I could hear them playing 'I will survive' but I think that was just in my head.

The thing is that we all know its a rock concert and we all know that when a big rock band plays there is going to be pushing (moshing) at the front. What got to me was how scared and worried everyone around me looked. There was a genuine fear in people and that is not a good thing. The fact that EV had to say 'Be Safe' and the band looked worried as well, adds to the point that it was over the top.

After that we got out and WOW what a concert!!!

    The best parts...
Mike playing guitar behind his head for Even Flow and then Matt's drum solo (I like how the rest of the band step to one side to let everyone see).

Another Brick in the Wall tag with EV's 'President Bush leave the world alone'.

Not for you - purely because of the French guy standing next to me singing
his heart out and hearing the song sung in a French accent... very funny and completely CLASS!!

Black for all the doo do do do do do doos (even when the song finished everyone kept going - another funny moment)

REARVIEWMIRROR - Holly shit!! I've heard them do that before but bloody hell!! I closed my eyes at one point and felt the music pulsate through me. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!

and then of course then end with DTE, ALIVE, RITFW and YELLOW LEDBETTER. When EV ran over to Mike (almost tripping) and asked for one more song, I knew it was going to be good but then the guitars started and so did I!! couldn't stop myself!! and my fav (at the moment) Yellow Ledbetter w/ Little Wing. I felt like crying with joy!!

All in all a fantastic concert, an amazing band, a beautiful city, the best girlfriend in the world and the greatest birthday I have ever had.

THANK YOU BOOM, ED, JEFF, MATT, MIKE AND STONE AND THE REST OF THE PEARL JAM FAMILY!!! THANK YOU SOO SO MUCH!!!

    NEVER STOP!!!

I agree, RVM completely blew me away. It's a song you can actually FEEL running through your body. Very cool feeling.

Oh, and security before the show were idiots. They took poster tubes off people and broke them and then threw them away. We looked around and saw people in the crowd just holding their exposed posters. They were probably wrecked by the end of the show!

Hey Conor and Laura, lovely to spend time with you all on Monday- I was a bit worried going along to Paris on my own but had a really lovely afternoon sitting in the park (and cocktails with Laura on Sunday) and chatting with you all. Come down to London soon Laura and we'll sit and watch unplugged all day!!!

I got seats at Paris as I knew I wouldn't be able to cope standing- but I think its a real shame that people who just want to enjoy the band hand have a bit of a dance and jump about etc feel like they have to get seats because of a minority who are just going to push and cause people to be dragged out. I would have loved to have got standing tickets as I was sooo jealous of where you guys were standing but I didn't want to get kicked in the face!!!

Loved hearing all the Riot Act and Avocado songs- and I especially enjoyed Save you, Marker in the Sand and RVM...

Conor will somehow have to get hold of the pictures you took! Have a good week,

yeah, I thought he did great with the French speech! and also for his accent, kinda cute at times, he said things phonetically, anyway here's what he said:

"Il y a cinq ans aujourd'hui, un accident terrible s'est produit sur le sol américain. La réponse entendue de France était [citation] 'nous sommes tous les américains'. Après une année l'Administration de notre President Assembly a oublié ce cadeau d'appui. Et alors, nous représentons la majorité des américains et nous vous remercions"

Mate... I was standing next to a security guard and was given water but you weren't allowed to hold the bottle so most of it ended up all over me... AND I couldn't wipe the top so I must have swapped spit with about 100 other sweaty people... blah!!

Sorry to barge in on this fanviews only thread, but I have read it and I agree with Angus and SterRedtJe... I think those of you who were at the show and rightly concerned for your safety in those circumstances should send an email to 10c and the band.

I would do it but I haven't been there. And I hope I won't have to once I see them in Italy.
  • My second post here..

I have read all your comments and reaction about this Paris gig… And something saddens me over all.

Lot of people who were in Bercy said their pleasure was annoyed by the behavior of some people. I wasn’t here but I can understand it easily. Being pushed, abused and shaken it’s not pleasant. It’s the reason I stay away from arena heart in that kind of show.

But the thing I don’t understand, it’s when people make generality and start lynching.

There are idiots everywhere, in France, as in any country.

Please don’t says “I don’t like French “ or something like that. There are just inconcient peoples who don’t realise that they can hurt. But that kind of people exist everywhere in world wild.

Intolerance and hatred begin their dangerous walk like that. We have to be careful with that.

I’m French but I never behaved like that, I mean doing pogo, slam etc etc. But, reading you, I have the real impression that you will throw me of stones just because I am French.

Please don’t say that all French people are like this or all Venusian are like that… Just think that we can try to understand us each other.

I always thought that the music was a formidable means to make us better. As I say every time, “listen PF Echoes and stop that fight.”

Please friends, don’t be angry against me for that post, I just try to defend myself and all people who are victims of expeditious judgement as you would make it if you were in the same situation.

Be cool, look at this splendid rainbow at the horizon and be sure that it will be soon above our heads.

WHAT a night, awesome. Couldn't choose between singing my lungs out or quietly listen, but then I would have been the only one I guess.
I loved every song, such an energy. Such a joy to watch Mike on fire, making contact with the fans and to watch Eddie smiling and enjoying the other band members doing their solos, one time while he took a break to smoke his sigaret looking very pleased (smoking by the way was forbidden in this venue, never heard of it before).
To me You are was amazing, never seen them play that song just like 1/2 full, I deed also hear that song at the soundcheck, by then I couldn't wait to hear it, was so excited and yes I loved every bit of it.

Gladly I was next to the barrier, had a great view and could enjoy everything without the possibility of shoes in my neck. I've been there and that's terrible, and I'm so sorry for the fans who got hurt'.

Some drunk lads, already in the afternoon at the terras making bad impressions and if you see them you know that you don't want to be anywhere near them, nationality doesn't matter, they're everywhere. Been to a Pearl Jam and Bush concert in Holland and selfish guys made it a living hell for others. I bet they did missed the entire concert and they ruined it for fans but they didn't seem to care.

Absolutely worthed the 5-hour drive (and back, still recovering, still high and sad that it's over for me after Arnhem and Paris. Despite the extreme heat, little water, soken wet afterwards, who cares, nice people around us, from France, Belgium, Holland and who knows where else. For me it was a fantastic concert. Thanks Pearl Jam for a great night.

    Extremely well said.

There were some dickwits in the mosh causing problems but that does not give people a licence to verbally "bash" the locals. There were certainly people causing problems who were not French.

I apologise to the French jammers for any offence caused by the wayward comments of others - they do not represent the rest of us.

The best part of these Euro shows (for me) has been the coming together of so many different nationalities for one purpose - to rock out to Pearl Jam. This is something to be celebrated and I know that all the people I have met so far at the shows take this view.

I agree.. luckely I had my brothers with me who could drag me out of the crowd. I just don't get it. haven't people got a little bit smarter these days.

Anyway, the show was fucking awsome! the set list was the best so far in my opinion. I really enjoyed it.

That is indeed NOT the meaning of a rock concert.
Ask Vedder, ask those people at Roskilde and so many others...
    You'll get answers
We all understand enthuosiasm, but this is no longer enthousiasm.
Neither is it possible to enjoy a gig when you're in that position.
All the real fans want, and the guys of Pearl Jam as well (and they most of all!!), is to have a nice audience which automatically results in a great performance and dedication of Pearl Jam.
    Example? Antwerp two weeks ago...
  • Hi Conor & Louise!!

Conor thank you for your concerns, & I will be brushing up on my history *ahem* ;)

Lou, so coming down to see you soon. I'll e-mail you about it. Maybe end of November??
  • I think, there's has to be a compromise between just standing up and watching the band.....and what happened in paris....

As a French man, i'm ever so sorry to what happened to some of you especially, taking into account how dedicated you are into Pearl jam. But at the same time, i've been to Reading, and the crowd's behaviour was close to the one in Paris, with someone even managing to climb on the stage...

My second point, i'd like to make, is how can't you crazy on songs like Even Flow Not For You Lukin Go RITFW Corduroy Save u animal Evolution and others.....? Personaly, i can't see myself just standing there....

Once again, seats are available for people who can't stand being pushed, who don't want to jump and down....Once again, i understand it can be sometimes annoying....to have someone coming fome behind, crowd surfing...but to many gigs i've been to...Pearl jam was not the worse....

I don't want Pearl Jam to become a band where u just stand up watching them..., and people don't let others get to the front
