    Ventilation was a little better.

There was only one water guy and he didn't do cups, like at Marseille.

Much rougher crowd. Lots of jockying for position, lots of surfing. People got smooshed to crap and a considerable number passed out. When security got them out, the remaining crowd swooshed forward again, thereby crushing more people and causing more fainting spells.

    Sweatier, stinkier evening.
    More clothes to throw away...

Being so up close, sometimes it felt like it was a Bercy concert with Pearl Jam playng backup...

Eddie mentioned today being 11 September and thanked France for her position. His discourse was well stated and very elegant.

    The show?
Like at Marseille, it felt like Pearl Jam were getting back to the basics.
It felt like 1996 and 2000 all over again with some Riot Act thrown in.
Very energetic. (Jeff was pooped at the end.)
    Once again: Stellar

    Thanks again, Pearl Jam. :)
Or in another language, Merci encore, Confiture de Perle.

    Note to Ed:
Your French was much better than at Marseille. Good work. :)
  • Agreed sometimes crowd got a little bit too ...mental .....spotted one too many surfers and after an awesome ANIMAL the crowd relaxed a bit and so did the band ..eddy did look a little frightened/annoyed/worried for the first few songs but when they really got going everyone became hynotised and some unusual where the ***k did they pull that song from moments- YOU ARE being one of the wierd and wonderfull moments along with DISSIDENT and a rolliking LUKIN.
Ending with the double of RITFW and YELLOW LEDBETTER was brilliant such a climax.
It was a long show but having HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY and THUMBING MY WAY really gave it a few moments of respite so you could catch your breath for a great REARVIEWMIRROR and NOT FOR YOU .. and the usuals of ALIVE BLACK etc..... and some girl screaming
"theyre french they don't understand" throughout BLACK!!!crazy woman
so many highlights, so many to pick from, even PARACHUTES didnt seem so out of place(never thought i'd say that)
all in all a totally different gig to dublin in set, in energy, and errr the french!
a few sambucha shots vs a bottle of expensive red wine
a very enjoyable french red wine.....(so the crowd and set were like a mouldy bottle of grape swill! nice!)
Agreed should be more water at the gigs (paper cups!!)
only complaint about the show was that LOVE BOAT CAPTAIN wasnt loud enough-it diserves it give it some welly.....
great venue and hats off to those in the seats for dancing as much as you did.
i thought i was going to feint at one stage, heat and bass finally getting to me(towards the end) and a kind jammer next to me helped me out and gave me his water and watched out for me...... thanks to mr annoymus french fan
sum up weird set but not a single song i'd leave out and what a finale!

First 3 songs were pure hell. Then I went a little to the back and started enjoying the show. Crowd was ridiculous. Not good.

  • yeah the crowd wasn't very respectful... I guess that's why they played rockers followed by quieter songs, maybe they were a little bit scared. That said, I was a bit disappointed in the setlist, but that's what happens when you see them three times in 2 weeks :)
  • Thanks Eddie for the tambourine !

    Merci beaucoup !

-the man with the Canadian flag with RITFW on it !
  • women with short dresses and a string should not skydive

people who come to a concert to skydive should be sent home immediately

I survived the pit ... and I'm proud of it :-)

    sweat, smelly sweat

water supplies was very ok on our side

ed did look in a panic at first

security did not have the crowd under control until some extra "big" (american-looking) guys arrived (my thoughts: Pearl Jam have their own specialists in case the organisation's security loses control ... could this be correct?)

Rockin in the free world was great (although I tend to skip that one when listening to the boots)

It was rough, just like in 2000 ...

Met some very nice jammers (Dutchies, Aussies, Lebanesies, ...)

Set list was great ... looking forward to Verona

They have their own guys - see them at every gig. One particularly big guy (but nice!)
  • Yes definitley agree with the comments regarding the mosh - it was quite dangerous early on. For the first five songs people were getting picked out of the mosh left, right and centre. Didn't think much of the Paris security - they were not very pro-active in dealing with the main offenders and you had to ask several times to get water for people - completely different to Marseille who were great.

PJ's own security guys however were awesome - the two big guys that I've seen at the other shows were right in there from the get go and were making sure that everyone who needed to get out did. Can't see why people have got to act like maniacs in the mosh - it certainly makes enjoying the first few songs quite difficult - fortunately I was able to hold my position on the barricade but a lot of others were passing out due to the crush and had to go over.

Aside from that it was a fantastic show (not as good as Marseille though I have to say). Great to hear that the Quebec fans with their RITFW flag got their song last night and a tamborine! I know Eddie had said to them at Marseille that they would get their song the next time. Also great to see the two belgian girls who were on the other side of the barricade to me get their request as well (Love Boat Captain). Met some really great Ten Clubbers in the line - incredible effort by Tracy and her mates who started lining up at 6.30am that morning - you guys deserve the front row possies.

Highlights for me were You've got hide your love away and RITFW (which the French crowd all over the stadium went off to!).

See you at Verona and Milan next weekend!
  • This is it! my first concert review!!! woohoo! :)
Oh my, I had a great time!!!! One of the greatest day of my life that is for sure... although I must say some scary moments as well...Mike was looking at our side during the first song, and Eddie also, he did look worried... He said rigt after Corduroy "Be safe Ok?"...We were in the second row, and so sorry to the two gentlemen in front of us, we were so much crushing them because of all the people behind trying to get 2 millimeters closer although we did say before the show we'll try not to...lol...But thank you for helping me out of the crowd or grabbing my friend's arm from behind when it felt like she was going to fall on the left with the crowd movement! yes yes...i had to get out at one point...I'm so pissed at myself, I should've asked for water right when I needed it but no, it was time for Matt's drums solo during Even Flow and I wanted to listen to it just a little bit and then drink but in the end that drums solo kinda knocked me out, we were in front of the speakers, it was pounding a bit too hard all of the sudden and my heart got a little out of rhythm or so it seemed lol! Anyway...I did miss Love Boat captain, boohoo, but the bootleg will be of great help for that one lol... Alright, other than that: MERCI BEAUCOUP PEARL JAM!!! Oh man, Mike is so much fun to watch on stage, the interaction with the crowd is excellent, so amazing to watch him play, wohoo behind the head, GO Mike!
Eddie did great, he did make great efforts and spoke French a lot. His speech about 9-11, Bush and the French position was very elegant, and he said "we thank you". Then during "Daughter/ABITW" : "President Bush leave the world alone!!!"
I almost passed out when I was up front, but it was like the guys were going to kill me when I was out back!!!! Every single song, I was so happy to hear them live! Parachutes!!!! I so much wanted to hear that one that's amazing! the same with Thumbing my way but didn't think they would make it into the set... They were played so great, a lot of emotion! Oh but Every song were played amazingly to me, I had such a great time also in the back, yeay Rearviewmirror!!!! "I'm still alive!!" yes I am! Eddie was drinking French wine haha, cool! I just loved it there, being in the same room with them and everybody to just share the love! and to say thank you to them by rocking out ourselves!!! Such an amazing night!!
    Thank you so much!
  • hey guys you have to remember it's a rock concert as well.

Was horrified to see, how cold a crowd could be in Antwerp...

Was glad that there was some action and people, jumping up and down, just like un Reading...
  • have to say a big thanks to everyone i met in Paris. Had a great beer session with 5 Scottish lads in the park behind the venue before the gig, 4 of them being 1st timers to a PJ concert, hope you enjoyed it. Thanks also to Megan from Poland who obliged me with a slow dance to Parachutes, which blew my mind. Also hi to anyone who looked up to the 2 crazy guys hanging out their hotel window opposite the venue, that was myself and Lastexitlondon. Everyone was so friendly, wow what a huge family we all are together.
Good show, but not as good as Barcelona for me, shame to think maybe the lads toned it down due to over enthusiastic crowd, who i thought gave a good account of themselves. with the exception of 4 idiots who constantly kept surfing the crowd from the middle to the front of the stage then running back to do it again and not caring who they pushed over to get there. I think they must have done it over 15 times. Once is a thrill but how much of the show did they really see whilst acting likes proper dick-heads.
Anyway see on all soon, hopefully in the UK next year !!!

    I completely disagree.

Rock concert is not = being pushed, pulled, not being able to move, not being able to put your hands above your head to pass on crowdsufers, being swung 10 meters back and forth every few seconds, not being able to watch the stage because there was so much goddamn pushing.

indeed! I'm 1m90 en weigh enough not to be crushed by the crowd, but trying to take care of some girls around (that were close to being crushed) I lost parts of some songs ...

oh, and Antwerp quiet? gimme a break! never seen such a concert in Belgium ... that crowd was amazing: very friendly, very Pearl Jam

  • Getting the tickets took a while, being escorted from one queue to another did not seem very efficient but we had our tickets within an hour or so after they finally started distribution. Great show, stunning view of the band, had to move back after the first couple songs as I found myself not being able to concentrate anymore on the music with all the pushing going on. Good to see that passionate crowds still exist with the exception of the usual couple a**holes. Anybody spotted the ukelele on stage also? Was hoping for soon forget but it was left unplayed. At least as far as I could see. Verona, here we come !

The uke gets soundchecked just before the show and is on stage at about every show. Don't get your hopes up too soon. :)

Sucks that the crowd was so rowdy. I hpoe everyone was ok and enjoyed the show. Killer setlist! Love that Riot Act! :D

I will certainly second that - I am up for people rocking out and jumping around to the music - no probs - but the people who were causing problems in the mosh last night couldn't have seen more than 10% of the songs because they were so busy pushing, shoving, crowd surfing and acting like total dickwits.
  • They were freaks out there, i do agree, and that definetely should not happen. But going to a ROCK concert doesn't mean in my opinion standing up, and not moving and just keeping your eyes on the stage.

People who don't want, to move and get excited, who don't like people crowd surfing, who can't stand being crushed a bit....should get seats and not standing tickets.....

Best moment of the show: When they played RITFW, with the lights on, with everyone bouncing, was just out of control!!!!!!!!

    Worse moment:Love Boat Captain

I loved it ! and such in a good mood today (but tired as I flighted back this morning to Stuttgart for work)
I was in the fosse near the end so we had enough space to dance and move so no concerns about being pushed and so on.
I agree with myth4343 : if you want to jump etc. you go in the first rows, specially for a rock concert.
We arrived a 8.45 so we did not have to wait ; it was very hot but we drank some beer (and afterwards water in the toilets).

the show was simply genious !!

I am looking forward to be at Berlin, so if we can make any song request I'd like to hear "down" and "state of love and trust" and "low light"

a big bravo to Ed and his french :-) ; was really cude
now my friend is also a big fan from PJ :-)

  • I came over from the Leeds to see the show whilst having a little holiday visiting my brother who lives in Paris. It was his first show and despite not being a fanatic like me, he loved it.

In the queue for tickets we met some really awesome tenclubbers. This was my third show, but my first tenclub show. It was great talking to people about what shows they had been to and what they thought the setlist was going to be. We met two guys, one was from Reading and was called John (hello! if you read this) and his mate whose name I didn't catch (but was cool). The organisation for the tikcets wasn't great, but the pleasant company made up for that.

We managed to get a good place in front of Mike, one row back. We met a guy from Canada, who, when I asked him how many shows he had been to he said 'only 16':) One example of how cool the tenclubbers were, versus some of the rest of the crowd, was the fact that I saved this canadian guy's place at the front before the show started, whilst he went to the toilet. Then he did the same for me, much to the protest of some of the people that came in later. It is really nice when people look out for eachother even when they are total strangers. That always makes shows loads better in my opinion.

Having secured a good spot we lost it almost immediately. People were being real assholes at the front. It was much more hectic than at the front of Leeds, which is saying something, since that was a festival. The crowd were just pushing to the front too much and it seemed very much 'everyone for themselves', which was a shame.

It was an awesome performance, Mike was on fire, great songs. Awesome behind the head solo on Even Flow. Lots of pointing to the crowd. I got his attention a few times, but then felt awful when I had stuck one finger up during the ''fuck yoooou bit of Not for You and he saw:O He mouthed 'Me?'and then shook his head:) I am sure he was kidding and knew I was just singing along and wasn't flipping him off, but I am getting neurotic about it now:). I am sorry Mike, you rock!!!:)

I think I would have enjoyed the show more if I wasn't spending most of my time trying to stay upright and not pass out. I second what people are saying about the water. I don't know why, but they didn't pass out cups, they just had guys pouring water from bottles into people's mouths and wouldn't pass the bottles into the crowd. I ended up getting pretty dehydrated because I couldn't get quite near enough the guy to get any water. I am used to standing gigs and I was glad PJ came and did one, I just think the crowd should have respected eachother a bit more. At Leeds I took my own water in and shared it with people, which was much better. Here I lost all my energy by the time they did the first encore.

Anyway to counterbalance my complaining, it was a thrill to hear 'You've Got to Hide Your Love Away'. 'You Are' was awesome. I was really glad they played 'Marker in the Sand', because that is one of my faves off the new album. 'Life Wasted' rocked. I didn't expect to hear 'Parachutes' either, so that was a nice surprise. I thought they were going to go into 'Save it For Later' at the end of 'Betterman', but they didn't. There was some good crowd mirroring Eddie 'heeeeyo' stuff. I got spun round during RITFW as I was rocking so hard and I saw the whole crowd lit up going crazy and singing their hearts out. That was a brilliant moment.

Overall a great gig. I was drenched by the end and glad to go home and shower, before going out for some beers to deconstruct the gig with my brother. Nice to meet all you international tenclubbers and thanks for coming PJ, hope to see you again soon!

I really love this band, and can't wait to catch them next year hoefully in the UK. The athmosphere will be unbeliveable....like it was in Reading and in paris.

I'm already saving money, for next year.

Was nice to see that amount of foreigners in Pars to see pearl jam, just shows how much people are willing to travel to get a chnace to see them.

I'm sure the shows in Italy, are going to be fantastic, and hopefully a DVD will be released out of these shows!!!!

It's nice, to see a crowd reacting the proper way to a rock concert.

I've seen them 5 times so far. Paris 96;2000 2006; Reading 2006 and Antwerp 2006.

If i had to rate the different shows i'va attended so far, Reading would probably be top it up, taking into account the atmosphere the excitement of the crowd, the fact that the band was on fire.

Antwerp was a very good show, Pearl jam was on fire, but was expecting something better as i got really excited knowing it was , their 1st show in Belgium....

Comparing the crowds, Reading was definetly the best out there, the way they sung all along to the songs. Paris may have been too rough in a way, and Antwerp too calm, lacking energy!!! Reading was a good compromise.

My regret on this tour, is not to have save enough money to see them in paris and in Holland.....

    Benjamin
  • Amazing show! I loved it! I managed to stay in front of the stage til Betterman (that's true it was sometimes a little bit hard with the crowd pushing, but well... it was a rock concert, and what a rock concert! :-D ).
People who took pictures, is it possible to get some of them?

I hope you're not talking about Paris here...

So far I think I'm on:

    1. Dublin
    2. Marseille
    3. Paris

I'm not including Antwerp because that was too special and I can't be objective about it.

    Edit,
and overall, I think Paris was my least favourite of my 10 shows so far.

  • Paris was really good, in my opinion?

Can someone explain me, what's wrong about jumping up and down, crowd surfing and a little mosh to a Pearl jam gig? Sorry mates, i don't get standing tickets to stay at my place and watch the band, i might as well watch dvd, or gets seats

Did you see such an athmosphere in Antwerp? I don't remember seeing people going crazy, as it was in paris when the lights were turned on, while the band were playing RITFW?

Did you see as many foreigners in Antwerp? I though it was wonderful, to have such a mixture of nationalities in such a venue.
