You're right Julien. Most of the posts in this thread are about moshing, inconsideration, etc. A few reviews about the music though!!!!!
  • The point is MYTH that people were fearing their lives, maybe you weren't but others were...and A LOT of people got hurt. Yeah, go crazy by dancing , jumping up and down...having fun, singing away...and even if there is a bit shoving and pushing...it is fun...i love the wave but it was not existent...it was all over the place. I was watching people aiming to hurt other people and when people were surfing they were throwing the surfer around not carrying them.

All in all...Pearl Jam played an amazing performance!!!
    Mike seriously shined that night!!
    My body is still recovering...

    Not being paranoid unfortunately...

The chaps (Dutch speakers) i bumpt into atthe concert , thought i was Belgium (a french speaker), and made my life hell, by puttig themselves in front of me, they were taller than me...and didn't stop bugging me.....just to make sure i had hell of a time...

Would wish Pearl jam next time they come to Belgium, they chose another venue than Antwerp, a place known, not to be friendly with Belgium that are French speakers... and unfortunately, i did experience that...

    Here we go again

so this is the real reason you prefer Paris? You could speak French with all the French people?

You know, I had a conversation with my friend (she's a Parisienne) about how fucked up the relationships are between the Dutch speakers and the French speakers in Belgium. And how the French speakers because of that tended to lean more towards France. You, my friend, are living proof of that, and I find it very sad indeed. Not because of the France-thing - cause I LOVE France myself - but for our own country. So small, yet so divided.

Especially if you take what just happened to be two Dutch speaking guys in Antwerp - a Dutch speaking city in Belgium - messing up your show and ruining your concert 'on purpose' (wtf?), and turn it into your typical political issue of separatism and what not. That's sad. Real sad.

In Paris I had a French speaking Maroccon guy going bonkers in my ears, screaming about his haircut. So yeah, next time I hope PJ plays France I hope it's in a place without French speaking Maroccons.

    (btw: that was sarcasm)

I just from Paris now after seeing the band in Dublin and Paris.

Paris was pathetic!!! That bercy is a death trap. Does someone have to be crushed or seriously injured before they realise you need to section off a pit area where a defined number of people can enter. Also have it securily monitored e.g. Dublin two big security men in the pit stopping the swaying which larger people can handle. It didnt stop anyone really enjoying themselves.

And to the people who are putting forward the arguement that you should be able to do what you like and all the rest of us who like to just jump around should sit in the crowd!!! You are true knobs. No personal offence intended but REALISE people can and HAVE die from that shite. If you cant just enjoy the live music then how much of a fan are you really! you move to the back and do what you like.

Im Sorry just really pissed off.

I hope someone passes some of the reactions in this thread to the band or their management and I hope they take the right conclusions. They shouldn't put their most loyal fans through pain like this again.

  • I have major post Pearl Jam blues today! The show was amazing and and I couldnt believe the amount of energy Eddie had, he just never stood still!
My boyfriend booked the weekend away and the tickets as a surprise for me as I havent seen Pearl Jam since Wembley in 2000. We spent the whole day Monday in the pub next to Bercy metro station chatting to various different fans. I have to admit, I was a little dissapointed as we had seating tickets but we had a fantastic view and at the time I remember thinking the standing crowd looked a little wild but I had no idea it was as bad as is was.
I really hope it didnt spoil it too much for those of you who got caught up in it and that no-one got too hurt.
For me the whole weekend was one of the best of my life and I havent been so emotional since I had my daughter! When they started to play my eyes filled up and I couldnt breathe, I was excited about seeing them but never dreamed I would turn in to a blubbering mess!
Thank-you to all the fans we met and to the locals who made us feel so welcome (and also for putting up with my dodgy South East London accent whilst trying to speaK French!). Think we're gonna have to remortgage the house now after spending 10 Euros for a JD all weekend but it was well worth it! And the best bit...........I've spent 8 years trying to get my boyfriend into Pearl Jam, he used to say that Eddie had a "whiney" voice and he only came to the gig for me but he left a fan and enjoyed every second of it!

Please Pearl Jam......come to England in 2007. I cant wait another 6 years!!!
Underneath this smile lies everything........... all my hopes, anger, pride and shame
  • this is on another thread too, but, never mind, these pics were taken one handed down the front whilst being elbowed

  • Just got home a few hours ago.

Best concert ever. Amazing. The crowd really wasn't that bad at all, I could have gone all night. Really, not rough at all. Calling it a "death trap" is pretty stupid. It's a rock gig in a stadium. C'mon now.

But amazing set, atmosphere...Paris was lovely. Fun meeting people there.
    ...
  • Yeah, jimmy p! It was excellent! Ok, it was sometimes hard with people pushing, but I really had a great time!
  • Just go home to Sweden. Must say that I think that the sound weren´t that good, did hear they audience better then Pearl Jam sometimes.
Dissident, lukin, go, marker in the sand were my favorite moments. You are was a real disapointment to me, moistly becuse I don´t like that song at all.
To much songs from Riot act and none from Binaural = no good for me.

Did anyone see the dude who threw a bear in a guy´s head and want to pick a fight. Just wanted to give him a kiss becuse he was so cute*ironic*.

My biggest highlight was run thru with My morning jacket. It was so powerfull. But i guess I´m the only one here who puts that before Pearl Jam=)

Anyway hope they save some Leash for Prague
    2006 Paris, Prague
    2007 Munich, Katowice, Kopenhaven, Nijmegen

A rock gig in a stadium? what bearing does that have on safety?

"Tragedy struck the theatre in the May of 1996 at a Smashing Pumpkins concert. Due to overcrowding and moshing, 17 year old fan Bernadette O'Brien was crushed to death."

Oh i forgot as long as your rocking it doesnt really matter if foke get crushed! Wake up my friend, why do you think we had to wait so long to see the band in Europe again?

People have different tolerances when it comes to keeping their feet and pushing back!

But the music was mighty, thumbing my way was fantastic!!!!!!!

Oh and i know this is not related to the gig but 50 Euro for a PJ boot 2003 Tokyo in Virgin on the Champs d elysees. A tad expensive.
  • I'm sorry to read about all those whose night was ruined because of stupid moshers. And yes, if it is really that bad, they should play other venues than Bercy in the future (NEXT YEAR ALREADY ??)

But if I speak for myself, it was a great great show !

I had seated tickets to avoid any moshing stuff, and was a bit disappointed for being almost as far as you can be from the stage (but right in front of it, at least). But after a few songs, atmosphere was raising even in the seats and lots of people started to get in the stairs, dancing and singing. I joined them and from that point the show was just incredibly awesome ! The band was full of energy, seeing all the venue standing, singing and clapping hands was just unbelievable ! Everybody, where I was, was having fun
The show had really rocking moments and more quietful ones that were also very nice to enjoy (like TMW or Parachutes, even not being a huge fan of this song). The classics had great singing from the crowd, it was loud as hell and really beautiful, and the new songs got a lot of cheers as well ! And the end was just... insane ! I felt the ground shaking for RVM and RITFW, it was unreal...

I really loved this show, better than Marseille from my point of view (I know most people think the other way). Come back soon guys !!!
  • "Here we go again

so this is the real reason you prefer Paris? You could speak French with all the French people?"

Hey mate, keep it cool , i'm allowed to have a different point of view from yours...aren't i?

I don't give 2 shits that people speak french dutch marroco chinese spanish....what bothers me, is to have my concerts ruined by two chaps who wouldn't entertain me because they thought i was a french speaker from your country.....that's really sad, in my opinion....Such a thing wouldn't happen in anither country...

I'm looking forward to see Pearl jam in the UK, next year...as i know the athmosphere will be great!!

End of the Story, let's get back to the music....

I've been to 3 shows on the 2006 tour

    Best atmosphere: Reading Festival
    Best Setlist: Antwerp
    Best moshing Paris
Best song: RITFW in Paris just amzing from my point of view.....
  • Obviously you weren't standing front and center like we were...
  • replying to tontonmatt and jimmy
  • So what was ur favorite song so far?
  • Rear View Mirror Kicked Ass!!!
  • RITFW in Paris

I was right there, and as I said, it was sometimes hard and I eventually had to go back on Betterman. I agree with people who say sometimes we couldn't really manage to get what was going on on stage. I felt it as enthusiasm, and thought it was tough but cool in a way. I absolutely didn't get there could be people hurt, maybe I was too busy trying to breathe and see something with all that sweat in my eyes, and I absolutely agree with people who say there shouldn't be people hurt in a rock concert. We are all here to share good moments listening to our favorite band, that's why we go there. By the way, I was disappointed when I got the news that we wouldn't have a reserved place in front of the stage with the 10C tickets. Despite that, I really spent a great great time. But I'm really sorry for the people who didn't because of the mosh.
  • Myth,

we started of on the wrong footh. We're argueing, but I think we both agree: it would be nice if there weren't any moshers...

You say that's an utopia, you say we're dreamers - a lot of other people (including me) hope a band like PJ (cfr. it's history) can realy accomplish this... And yes, deviding the ground floor isn't an utopia. Arnhem prooved this can be done! It's fair and safe.

And yes, it would be fantastic if the whole crowd went nuts - expressing themselves through singing, jumping, dancing, etc... Comming together as one big (PJ) family, not speaking one particular language, but music.

    Let's stop fighting :)

PS: Not all people in Flanders are seperatists. And I respect the fact you came all the way to Antwerp. Next time, we'll meet and have a beer (AFTERWARDS). :)

Reminds me of "Sofie's choise" ;)

    Oh, I want a beer too! :D
  • The point is not that you can handle it but that others couldn't who weren't as strong as you...there were a lot of scared fans!!! I had a great time but we lost our spot after waiting for 8 hours because of losers who were throwing punches and jumping over everyone.
  • Can anyone try to quote Eddie on what he said about 9/11 because Im from Sweden and I can't speak french :P
Btw why did the audience boo in the middle of his speech?

The concert was better than great and my self had no problems with a rough crowd but then I stood a bit further away.

Thanx PJ for an unforgettable night!

P.S The opening act was quite good in my opinion D.S
  • Also it is extremely selfish to just recognize yourself.
The band looked worried and there is a reason why.

That's ok, I agree with you, I just didn't get that was so tough.
  • i will start by saying that 2 days later and i still have battle scars.
yes that is what is was like.....crush hell.
was right at front directly in front of mike..who was on fire all night.
sound was terrible...did not hear ed singing until encore 1
it was like been stuck in some mime gig.
i think this is down to been directly in front of mikes speaker.
There were 4 of us starting out and i was the only one left at end of concert.
The crushing really was that crazy.
How there was not barriers for 10c is beyond me...that was not safe...

    all in all ...forgetable concert..

only highlight was mike threw me a pick

edit..oh yeah..we had 4 posters also between us and my buddy before he went back thought he handed them to me
which he did not and the guy took them.....bastard....if you want to give at least one back feel free

must of been because of where you were, i was in front of jeff and had great view and could just hear ed's voice nicely in the mix (eventually). the stage was pretty small so your view would have been obstructed by all the monitors i feel very lucky to have been where i was and for that i thought it was a fantastic gig.

  • I have to agree and say I hate that all I can think about is the pain & voilence of the gig as opposed to the music. Unfortunately the bad seems to have superceded the good in my mind. I went back to my hotel & cried.... Sounds pathetic I know, but I'd been so looking forward to the concert, travelled from the UK, queued for a few hours, got a great spot, collapsed & had to be dragged out, & collapsed in the security men's arms (how romantic....) as I was so out of it I couldn't even stand when they got me out. Missed songs & Eddie's speech as I was laid up in the Paramedics room eating sugar cubes & drinking tons of water.

My post doesn't really have a point, just wanted to share my disappointment as I still feel miserable about it. RVM still got me going at the end tho :)

And I just want to add, the French people I met were really lovely, not just at the concert but all over Bercy during my few days there. The Nurse in the back was very sweet too :) I have absolutely NOTHING against any one from any particular country, just the people who are stronger than me who felt it was ok to crush everyone.

And I lost my best sunglasses out of my bag!!
