The smoking policy was sort of a joke too, security was doing more about that than anything else. Leave them kids alone. Loved spending the afternoon BTW among people in PJ T-shirts from the past 20 years or so. And I thought I would stick out with my blue Mookie 10, hahaha. A friend of mine pointed out that a guy in the 10 Club line with his mrs. looked an awful lot like Kluun, a Dutch writer. Don't know if it was him but hellacool if it was.
Hi, I'm kind of new here and pretty new to Pearl Jam so you'll have to bear with me. Paris was the second time I've seen Pearl Jam, I was lucky enough to also see them at reading a few weeks back.
Anywho, I totally agree with all the comments about the crowd, I felt it was very much more aggressive, as soon as they started it was a nightmare, and my boyfriend ended up dragging me out of the crowd after he saw a girl leaving with a bloody nose. The crowd seemed to lack in respect for both the band and the other concert goers which was sad. And boy was it hot in there!
Anyway I enjoyed the gig, but not as much as Reading, was great to here Black and Daughter amongst others we didn't get at Reading, but it was a similar ish set. The only thing was, as my boyfriend said, the band didn't seem to have the crowd connection quite the same. But I still had a fantastic time and enjoyed the gig and am grateful that I have seen them twice so soon into my life as a PJ fan, when many others haven't been that lucky.
Reading Festival - 27th August 2006
Paris Bercy - 11th September 2006
Wembley Arena - 18th June 2007
only PJ concert I have been to but by far the best I HAVE EVER SEEN!
Right from the start such a fast punky pace
every song played masterfully the crowd so pumped
could not have been any better
encore two was to die for and from the first note to the last i was dancing in my isle big sorry to the girl behind me who got my sweaty shirt slapped in her face during lukin ( you did get a beer as an apology)
thanks lads
mike - evenflow, alive & yellowled better fucking rocked
used to be coded,
cause i got branded,
don't give two shits about labels,....
The only thing was, as my boyfriend said, the band didn't seem to have the crowd connection quite the same.
It was my first pearl jam concert but I actually thought there was a nice connection yesterday! But then again, it was my first.
By the way, at one point during the concert (can't remember on wich song though) I thought seeing Eddie miss a step or something and fall down (he then proceded to play lying down for a few seconds). Am I the only one who saw this?
I also found a great connection between the band and the crowd.
And having Eddie speaking french was cool. He obvioulsy improved his french in comparison with Marseille
The day started off beautifully, the sun was shining and it was my friend's birthday. We have been following Pearl Jam since the beginning like the rest of ya. We bought our tickets months ago and we flew from abroad to get to Bercy like a lot of you. We even walked to Bercy and we got there at 1 and we were waiting in line in the smouldering heat but we were happy and as people came and joined the line, it was great, meeting wonderful people and sharing stories and talking about concerts we have been to and how amazing Pearl Jam is.
Finally after many hours in the sun they let us in and YES we were pretty much in the middle and in the front. Couldn't believe it, it was my friends birthday and it was 9/11 and it meant a lot for me because I am from NYC, born and raised. I wanted to share this day with my band.
This couldn't get any better. We were beyond excited and all the people around us in such great spirits...there were so many fans around us, it was great. Morning jacket came on and they were pretty cool, we were moving and bopping and just too damn excited!!!
Finally the moment comes they are on stage and BAM a MASSIVE shot from the left throws everybody and then from the back from the right from the back to the left,...can't breathe...I don't even hear what song is on...I look to my friend and he is scared...people in front trying to get out...girls crying...getting punched in the head...I look all around me and all those wonderful people who had the biggest smiles on their faces have turned completely white!!! I am trying to help one girl stay on her feet...trying to keep myself together...I couldn't breathe...I was yelling at so many guys pushing and punching there way...
There was no control... there was no wave...a wave is unity and all these selfish bastards thought they were at Slipknot concert or something...throwing punches...pushing and I mean shoving and aiming to hurt people. They just didn't care and it was sooo upsetting.
We finally got out and we were in shock and seeing all those people hurt. I mean come on people...Cop on...Do you realize how upset The Band gets when they see people hurt...do you want them to stop playing concerts because we can't control ourselves. People have died before...
After getting over the shock and the fact that we lost a great spot to jump around and jam in, Pearl Jam didn't take long to raise our spirits and were singing and dancing like crazy. The concert was phenomenal!!
Mike was on fire!!! Rear View Mirror and RINTFW Rocked!!!
They were amazing but for the band to be worried looking into the crowd, don't you think that they had to take it down a couple of notches?
And surfing your supposed to carry the person not throw them around. We should be responsible for our actions and watch out for our neighbours! Sorry about the long post but I love this band like the rest of you guys!!!
By the way Doodoo doo doo dood do do...that was funny!!!
Oh yeah...you people who don't move at all...statues...
How can you just stand there the whole time????
I understand your point, some people did go over the border, as behaviour is concerned, and some of them, though they were at slipknot instead....
On this tour, i've seen them in Reading Antwerp and Paris. Antwerp was probably too cold and the crowd hardly moved, they were almost no jumping up and down,no crowed sufing....and in Paris, it was a bit to extreme the other way....In my opinion Reading was a good compromise....pople enjoyed themselves, no one was hurt...there was someone who even managed on the stage...how crazy can u get...
But to make, my point, whan i go to a rock concert, i don't go therer to just stand up, and watch if not not i would get a seat ticket.
Paris was something else, to say the least. Paris was, for reasons of context, my second show ever, after Antwerp being my very first. And I must say, I'm glad I had Antwerp as my first, cause if Paris would have been my only show, as a listening experience, it would have been a dissapointing one.
But still, Paris was an experience, a crowdy experience. One thing is for sure, I'll have to buy the bootleg, cause I could hardly hear anything from the concert, cause the sound was plain awful in the front. I was on Stones side, second row - at the start of the show, ended up at the front row by the end, thanks to pushing and surfing - close to the middle barrier. I could hear everything Stone played really good and clear, but everything else, even Ed's vocals seemed to be just out there. Mike's solo's? Could hardly distinguish them. People told me the sound was okay when you were more to the back, but in Antwerp I was fifth row, and I had a wonderful listening experience - despite the whiners dissing the sound: Antwerp sounded just great. On the upside: I did have a spec-ta-cu-lar view in Paris.
Not that it really mattered, cause the crowd experience up front made sure it was close to impossible to listen to the songs anyway. Crowd experience. Well, experience definitely is the word here. Tons of crowdsurfing, and indeed always the same people (4 or 5) coming back. And yes, like someone said, this one girl wearing a thin and short summerskirt and a g-string: might not be the best way to go crowdsurfing. But then again, she didn't seem to mind everybody grabbing her ass . Hell, she even started waving at the security guys, like she was saying: Hi guys! I'm ba-aack!'
Like someone said, trying to keep myself and others around me safe, I 'lost' a lot of the music. In one word: yes, it kinda sucked and at one point I was considering stepping out myself. But I'm not gonna be all that negative about it though, cause allthough it was pretty fuckin' rough - I had to help get several people out of there, who just couldn't take anymore, like the girl who was standing behind me and had klinged on to me the entire show, untill me and her boyfriend who was behind her got her out (Paulaviki, that wasn't you was it?) - the people I was standing with in front were ABSOLUTELY AWESOME.
First props go to Blanche, my lovely Parisien date for the evening (and my stay in Paris): amazing how you held strong in that jammed pack! It was a thrill and a pleasure to be standing there with you. I'll get back to you soon enough in an e-mail about the rest of my stay in Paris. My last day was pretty sweet as well.
Second, major props go to the young guys (I would say kids, but you didn't act like kids) who where in front of us. I'm sorry, I didn't catch your names, but you guys were gold. They were on Stone's side, next to the older guy (their dad?) and they all had 10C wristbands up to their elbows. These guys were truly amazing. We were constantly being pushed on to them so they got crushed onto the barrier, and yet they were constantly rocking out and turning and asking us if we were okay. When the crowdsurfers pushed me to front row, they were way cool to let me stand in between them.
And when at the end of the show Mike left the stage throwing that last tambourine in the crowd and I caught it - still don't know how I managed to do that - even though they missed it, they were like 'dude, great job, way cool man!!' and patting me on the head, both of them. They were thrilled for me! At first, I even felt bad, cause they had let me through to the front. But the guy on my right got Stone's pick and the guy on my left told me he caught one already at another show. I saw him again after the show and we shook hands. I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to you guys more, but we had to meet with someone else. But you guys most definitely ROCKED, in every sense of the word!
Now, the music: highlights in the setlist, for me, were Marker in the Sand and Life wasted (fav songs on PJ), Daughter (though I was really hoping for an 'It's OK'-tag), Hide your love away (!!!), Thumbing my way, Lukin, Parachutes, Go and Rearviewmirror - though I can't even remember most of that song.
Band seemed high on energy, playing extremely tight. Ed jumping a lot, tripping in Not for you and continuing to play from the floor.
That, however, is all I recall from the music. I have to get me the boot for sure, to Listen to the music.

After waiting for 6 years, it was out of the question that I get all the air squeezed out of me and miss PEARL JAM in my hometown, dammit.
In this context, to the guy behind me: sorry, I wasn't looking for a date.
Ma Perle, I'm glad you got home fine. Thanks for the lovely view.
(By the way, are you sure it wasn't various elbows in our ears that affected our hearing as much as Bercy's rotten acoustics?)
Hey ! This was the first time I've saw pearl jam in live
Since that I had bought plenty of bootleg, dvd's, etc... and wow ! I was very surprised ! I had never thought it would be so great !
I'm surprised to see people in this forum telling that the crowd was ridiculus or over excited... man ! it's a live !! a fucking rock 'n roll live, and I'm sorry to say that you have to be pushed and pull ("push me pull me" sing eddie in yield) and it was nothing compared to a 'noir des' " live (for example)
I hope they will soon come back in paris: we have waited for 6 years for this live !
@Pearlwax: you just described how I experienced the show: must have been next to you ...
Were you the guy with the white T-shirt, the stickman tattoo, the glasses and the blond girlfriend? That's what I first thought when I read your review.
By the way, at one point during the concert (can't remember on wich song though) I thought seeing Eddie miss a step or something and fall down (he then proceded to play lying down for a few seconds). Am I the only one who saw this?
I saw it too!
It was my second PJ show (the first one was 6 years ago in Paris) and I really loved it. I didn't want to be in the pit this time so I purchased a seated ticket. I was quite close to the scene and had a great view. I can tell you that people around me moved a lot and so I did.
The show was awesome, awww Rearviewmirror... and RITFW... They were all great. I liked Ed french speech about 9-11...
I hope they'll be back soon. I don't want to wait for 6 years to see them again in Paris!!!
Has anybody noticed Eddie doing the now famous worldcup final Zidane's headkick to Jeff at the very end of the show
Yeah! It made me laugh! Again, what a performance, what an experience to be there right in front! It was my third PJ concert (Paris 1996 and 2000), and I have to say it was huge! Better than in 2000! I loved it! Thank you, guys!
I understand your point, some people did go over the border, as behaviour is concerned, and some of them, though they were at slipknot instead....

You're always complaining about Antwerp!
But the sing along was much much better in Antwerp than in Paris!
Remember 'Jeremy', Better Man', 'Alive', 'Present Tense' and ..............a fenomenal 'Black' ofcourse!
And I think I forgot many other songs!
Listen to the Antwerp boot and you'll notice!
What's best? A crowd that's beating, pushing, surfing, resulting in many injured people?
Or a whole venue that's singing along and gives even Ed and the rest of the band goosebumps?
Antwerp 30-08-2006, Paris 11-09-2006, Berlin 23-09-2006.
Düsseldorf 21-06-2007, Nijmegen 28-06-2007, Werchter 29-06-2007.

Nijmegen 27-06-2010, Berlin 30-06-2010, Arras 04-07-2010,
Werchter 05-07-2010, Manchester 20-06-2012, Amsterdam 26-06-2012, Amsterdam 27-06-2012, Werchter 29-06-2012, Berlin 04-07-2012, Amsterdam 16-06-2014, Amsterdam 17-06-2014, Werchter 05-07-2014
The singing along, was 10 times better in Reading than in Antwerp....trust me....and the Eddie almost cried, at Reading, to get such a nice welcome in england.
I'm not complaining about Antwerp, but i did prefer the show in Paris, as people seemed to enjoy it better, by being over excited......And personnaly, to have seen PJ 3 times before (Paris 96 and 2000 Reading 2006), i was shocked to see how people didn't move to the music in spite of having a wicked setlist, and having their firts treat of Pearl jam in their own country.
I don't like lunatics and they should be chucked out in my opinion, but at the same time at a rock concert, people who don't like or can't stand people bouncing and crowd surfing, should not go in the standing arena. It's always worked like that in rock concerts.
I don't surf and i don't mosh, but i' don't complain either, as i know what to expect at a concert. I'd rather see people jumping up and down, than people not moving and keeping their place safe, and just standing there.
Every tour is the same fucking joke, "this show was better, what ,are you kidding it was shit compared to that show, people at this show were great, but at that show someone stepped on my foot etc, jesus wtf ? I fail to see the need to compare and especially to declare one show waaaay better than another, every experience is unique and personal anyway. I thought the fanviews were meant to share your experience, not to claim that your show was better than your neighbor's. All these debates are stupid, yes some people push, some don't, some people are respectful, some are not, newsfuckingflash. As for the usual anti-french comments, deal with it morons, you dont like french people ? There's a good chance they don't like you either.
That's well said and i totally agree with your comment. Every show is unique, and RITFW with the lights on in Paris was unbelievable; out of control to see everyone jumping up and down with a big smile....i didn't see that happening in Antwerp.
In Reading, Ed almost cried. I hope i'll be able to catch them in the Uk next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've read on others forum that most of the rude and violent were not french (in fact lots of english, irish and even australians, drunk from the very beginning of the afternoon to the end of the show, they must think it's funny to act like hooligans when you're abroad...) i'm so sorry and sad you're all thinking french pearl jam fans are bastard.

You're right... many of the bastards were from abroad..
2006: Antwerp, Paris
2007: Copenhagen, Werchter
2009: Rotterdam, London
2010: MSG, Arras, Werchter
2012: Amsterdam, Prague, Berlin
2014: Amsterdam, Stockholm
My idea was that many of the bastards were the French who came pushing their way to the front just before Pearl Jam. Not the foreigners who had been waiting for their spot in the front rows since 2-3pm in the afternoon... I could be wrong though. But quite a few of the foreigners who were next to me all the way from the early entrance till the start of Pearl Jam, I saw later during Pearl Jam at the back of the venue.
Anyway,
if anyone has a pic or a video of the Zidane-Materazzi imitation, I'd love to see that. I thought it was hilarious and would love to show it to some friends.
And your criticism on the Belgian audience... well, Belgian audiences are always calmer, we're known for that. But we clearly let the band know how much we loved them. I thought the singalongs were louder in Antwerp. Remember Betterman. And what to say of Black? I could also say it almost made Eddie cry. And I wouldn't be lying. So if you say they didn't appreciate it, you're very very very wrong.

Incredible photos - I assume you weren't fighting it out in the mosh with the rest of us to take those - if you were I will be even more impressed!!
Oh yeah, couldn't stop laughing!
I'd rather see people jumping up and down, than people not moving and keeping their place safe, and just standing there.
i love this band!!!!!!!
and french guys, next time take it easier!!!!
Katowice....2007
In Reading, Ed almost cried. I hope i'll be able to catch them in the Uk next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've read on others forum that most of the rude and violent were not french (in fact lots of english, irish and even australians, drunk from the very beginning of the afternoon to the end of the show, they must think it's funny to act like hooligans when you're abroad...) i'm so sorry and sad you're all thinking french pearl jam fans are bastard.
You're right... many of the bastards were from abroad..
2007: Copenhagen, Werchter
2009: Rotterdam, London
2010: MSG, Arras, Werchter
2012: Amsterdam, Prague, Berlin
2014: Amsterdam, Stockholm
Anyway,
if anyone has a pic or a video of the Zidane-Materazzi imitation, I'd love to see that.
