its sad how this thread turned into bashing kelly curtis. well done, sawyer! sawyer, were you even trying to get tickets for the euro shows (which this topic was originally created) or are you already just setting your sites on the show's merch to flip in the ld forum? and its kinda scary to think that someone like you is shaping the minds of our youth. you are a piece of work. again, well done![/quote]

so you agree it should be a potluck of 10 club member ideas to solve this dilemma? is this how things go where you work.....and if so...are they hiring?

Kelly its 1am and clearly you've left.

Thank you for answering our questions, I'm sure there are a lot more. And whilst some us are unhappy with answers you've given at least you had the kahunas to step up to the plate.

What i will say is this:

    1) Remember you're dealing with a lot of fans here who have, and will continue to spend thousands of $$ just to see their band.

    2) We are all passionate, upset and angry because we missed out on tickets. But worst of all no one told us what was going on, not even a "By the way we wot have any valuable information til the morning so go to sleep" or "Heads up, there may be a second show announcement"

I think we just want you to be open. Surely by now you know how passionate and outrageous some of us fans are. Remember Australia 2006, when it was the same people in the front row for 12 shows on end? (EVen though you shafted us on 10C tickets - that's dedication my friend)

That's the kind of passion you're dealing with here. Don't be glib, be honest and understanding. It will make life easier for us, you and ultimately the band

Peace and Cheers for answering questions

    Are you unable to empathise?

Would you have reacted differently if the Pearl Jam brand wasn't involved? If it was any other successful business/brand/organisation that you paid for a membership with would you think this situation worthy of a complaint?

It does seem as though people are expected to excuse the sub standard business practices of the larger brand that is Pearl Jam, on the grounds that they love the artistic ones. As if somehow, you can't be a "real fan" and still recognise poor administration. (The minutia of which, the band has very little if not nothing to do with I'm sure)

It just worries me that the service and accountability might be measured next to how much they think they can push it based on our love for the band. Please don't suggest I jog on.

I do empathise and I agree with the right and the need to complain. There are ways of complaining however and in my opinion (which I'm also entitled to) some of the ways and tones have been way over the top.

I also feel that the reaction of some fans suggesting that they are being pushed as far as the 10c think they can get away with is unfair and over emotional. We all feel such an attachment to this band that we want things to be perfect. Some of the "conspiracy" theories posted by fans are just crazy. Neither do I buy the sabotage theory by the way. There is a middle ground in here!!

Right, that is definitely me out of here until tomorrow, peace...

    Mr. Curtis,

Thanks for being here and for answering our questions/concerns. The lack of communication is what makes people unsatisfied. This all situation was ridiculous and should be remembered for “what not to do in the future”.

Regarding the tickets sales, I would like to suggest the following. Going back to money orders and snail mail is a step back. Why not putting the tickets up on your website with a 5 day period to "buy", so that everyone could "buy them". By buying them I mean reserving them. You could pre-reserve tickets and the amount would be pre-reserved on our CC. If you get more reserves than the amount available, just do a raffle. Once you get the final list of who will get the tickets, just charge the CC and send confirmation e-mails.

This is different than the e-mail lottery where many things can go wrong. People must send an e-mail and then you will reply to people who get the tickets asking them to pay in a timeframe. If people don’t reply or don’t get back in time, you get stuck with those tickets. Then you have to repeat the process for the next person in line.

Bottom line, try to work out a fair system that allows people to calmly get a fair chance to get tickets. I understand we are not entitled to have tickets but we are entitled to have a fair chance to get tickets, which hasn’t happened this time.

    Kind regards
    Pearl Jam

I don't like the idea of a lottery because while I have never had problems getting tix with their current system, I have been left out of lotteries (Ed tour). PJ fans who are prepared, should be rewarded with tickets.

PJ's ticket system was working fine, until the recent sale when the Ten Club sent out a notice of a new rule, that tickets would time out after 15 minutes. I emailed them and warned them it would cause a clusterf--k and sure enough, it did. With all the load on the system, it takes more than 15 minutes to get through all the screens... 6 of them.

    1. Make an express checkout button, so people have to only F5 through 2 screens instead of 6.
    2. Don't time out the tickets. This causes people to lose them and start over, and only makes them pound the system more. Sometimes, you get all the way to the cc info and then you lose your tickets. If people can keep their tickets for the 20-30 minutes it takes to get through all the screens (or less if you do an express checkout), then they will exit and lessen the strain on the system for others.

actually, I gotta go with Sawyer on this one. that was clearly a troubling answer. the man has been the band's manager for 20 years in the music business, and he's mocking the fans by asking them if they have any better ideas? Kinda like Tim did when he told us to start our own band if we didn't like how things were.

it wasn't necessary for Kelly to say that. I think Sawyer's comment was right on the money. If I call a plumber to my house for a water leak and he asked me how to fix it I'd kick his ass out the door.

the idea of open dialogue with band management is great, but if they are:

-unwilling to offer up any answers, and/or
-still defer to "you know as much as we do",

the whole process is moot. he should have just released a statement about what they knew and didn't know and what are possibilities down the line and what aren't, and leave it at that. this will only make people more angry.

    Hi Kelly,

this shows balls, humility and intelligence...no wonder youre Pearl Jam's manager.

I only have one question....on this upcoming tour, and for the forseeable future, would you consider opening as support, giving lectures on buisness and letting us all know exactly how you keep this juggernaut running? As far as I know, PJ havent cancelled many of the endless shows they play, do the Bridge thing every year, and give us consistently good music and ephemera year after year. And when something does go wrong, its because you havent made enough of a limited edition or an outside company has had some problems. That you went to another company to try and make things better for us is what counts; it failed and im sure youve learnt from it.

I understand peoples frustrations, I dont like hitting refresh for 90 minutes, missing out on tickets and not knowing why. Id rather do that though than wait for 10 years for a tour or whatever like some bands put their fans through. I think this band does too much for its fans in all honestly, because theres a massive sense of entitlement in some quarters. You give us another show - another show! - and noone says thanks, they say why werent we told, will we get our bonuses? And hey can we have more white backspacers and can the band come to each of our homes and say their sorry for something thats out of all your hands?

I wouldnt blame you at this point if you slowed down on the fan club bonuses. The more you give, the more a few fans will take, including the p*ss.

    Anyway my real question is:

Can you make some more deluxe blurays? ;)

Hello Mr. Curtis. In case you are still on here, or will read this at a later date, I would like to make a point that I hope you will keep in mind for the future in adding a second show. It's something that I would like to tell EVERY manager who has ever had to make that decision. I have to say that I totally support "dunkman" in his disappointment at the way this particular case was handled... There are basically three ways that a second show is ever "added"...

    1. 20-30 minutes into the public sale (sometimes even done during the presale) of the original show, during the initial ticket buying "frenzy" state... For instance "TM" in the US will go to the "sold out" screen, but below that will have a link to the new page where the second show has been added. Often times that page will be inactive for a few minutes and then will open up. In the BEST case scenario, there will even be a fan club "post-sale", where the best tickets were held back and released to the fan club at a later, scheduled, time.
    2. After a day, or two, or even a week, a second show will be added and sufficient notice will be given to everyone about the new pre-sale date and public sale date.
    3. Finally, sometimes the added show onsale time starts 3 or 4 HOURS or more, after the start of the public or pre-sale... This is the WORST situation for FANS!! The scalpers sit around all day waiting for this kind of situation. Or, pay some kid $5 an hour to do it for them! That's how they make their LIVING!! Every other FAN, goes on with their day, goes back to work, taking care of the kids, whatever! They DON'T sit around WAITING for a show which may or may not be added! These added shows are definitely the ones where you will find the biggest concentration of tickets on Ebay, Stubhub, or whatever other ticket selling sites are used in the rest of the world...

So, what I am asking is that, in the future, please think about situations #1 and #2 and stay away from situation #3, as was done in the Manchester case, if I am correct... (I wasn't actually participating in that one since I can't make the UK shows, only Scandanavia this time).

    Thanks again for your time...
    Mike

I will throw in my personal beef that I had this time around... After the failure of Crowdsurge and the tickets being passed to the local ticket selling agencies... The agencies in Norway and Sweden, at least, were very restrictive in their sales to foreign credit cards... So, I was NOT able to obtain tickets at all by using my US credit card! So, tickets that I had in my cart, that I SHOULD have been able to purchase through Crowdsurge, if not for their failure... I was NEVER able to obtain. When I called their offices, they confirmed that US cards were NOT accepted via the web, but WERE accepted via the phone, but by then it was too late. If THAT information could have been made available sooner, it also would have been very helpful! Thanks.

So what answers did we get really? Not that many real answers and lot of questions unanswered or vaguely answered.

The only thing was they (the fanclub) now will try to share information about concerts with the fans. Which should have been in placed when they started the club... and shouldn't be a thing to even think about doing.

"So... ticketmaster will open up sales for a second date... yeah ok... great... is there someone we should inform about this... hmm... no... can't think of anyone

fans: yeah.. you could tell us...

Yeah right... ok ok.. did not know you wanted that information. Ok. We'll think of that."

I think this thread shows the band needs some sort of "board liaison" that basically is someone who is an official representation of the band that can answer questions on here on a daily basis. I'm not saying "respond within the hour," but someone who is on here and can post in threads and if they don't have the answer be willing to say they don't have the answer and come back when they have it.

It may seem like a dumb "job" but it would go a long way on here to have someone who can at least address issues quickly and be willing to look into the smaller issues and get back to members with actual concrete answers (or if there isn't a concrete answer give a reason why).

I'd do it for free, btw... payment can be made in blue fixers, PJ20 colored vinyl, etc. I have a marketing background with PR experience -- how much better of a fit can I be? :P
