I was about 20 rows back on right, with a great view of the stage. I felt like I was at eye level with Ed...

Any other 114'ers out there?? We had a pretty decent vibe going where we were.

HI!!! I was in 114 row 2 as well!!!! I was seat 9; aka the crazy blonde girl in the black PJ Reading shirt that wouldn't stop jumping/dancing :D

I had a wonderful time... I was singing to everything and yelling for Leash and for Boom... god what a wonderful show!! And the guy in the Red Sox jersey in front of me kept giving me high fives cause I knew the words to everything... beauty!!

Best seats ever... I was pretty far back for Reading last year, so I was psyched when I could actually SEE the band this year! I swore Eddie was watching me jump around... but of course anyone would say that :)

Philly blew Reading and Nissan '03 (the only shows I've been too) out of the water... I had so much fun, everyone around me had a lot of fun, the guy behind me was smoking pot, the whole band was going nuts... WONDERFUL NIGHT!!! :D:D

cool, we had a good time in 114 didn't we...I was standing right next to guy who kept jumping up and down all night. I felt a bit caged since I am like 6'3" 220 - didn't want to kill anyone by going crazy like I wanted to. I Still did plenty of dancing, cheering, clapping, and JAMMING!!!

My 15th show. 4th show I have gone alone.
    Amazing.
Hard To Imagine, Crown Of Thorns, Sonic Reducer, Around The Bend were
all songs I thought I never would hear.
I couldn't ask for a better set list.
Already looking forward to a tour in 2006.

  • Wow. That show was for "us". Ament was interviewed by Matt Cord on WMMR and said that they anticipated a lot of fan club so they pulled out the b-sides.

That was a strong set list...feel bad for the "casual" fan that wanted to hear the radio hits.

There were a few people bitching about the setlist behind me on the way out. I thought it was great. Too bad for them!

This was our first time in Philly and we had a great time. Can't wait to go back. Everyone in our section was really into it (111), and in the first set it definately felt like I was a concert with 20,000? friends, and our buddies were up on stage. Thanks everyone.

I'll chime in with my perspective ...

First of all, my ticket was in the upper level but when they hit the stage I was in section 113 (I think). The sound from that vantage point was excellent. Saw the whole first set and part of the second from that vantage point (The Gestapo came down during Crown and wanted to see proof of purchase, so I split from there). Eventually moved to the runway behind the stage (sec 119-120) just seconds before the "technical difficulties" on Crazy Mary. I asked the usher if he minded and he didn't. The sound from this locale was "A+" and the view was interesting. It turned out it wasn't ok to stay there after a few others gathered in "my" spot. There were a number of attendees leaving after the first encore and I moved into section 104 for the final leg. This section was toward the back and the sound was muffled. I couldn't understand Ed as he spoke between numbers.

Anyway, the main set was absolutely kick ass with some serious hard rock numbers ... finishing off with Once, Bleed For Me (saw the DK's back in '83), and Blood.

Was hoping for In Hiding, Footsteps, and/or Immortality (figured it wasn't coming out since it was played on Sat in AC). I wonder if there's ever been a gig in the last 5 years where they didn't play Corduroy, Animal, Jeremy, or Black (not to mention Small Town, RVM and Porch).

I can't possibly be the only one that noticed Corin Tucker's ass hanging out of her jeans late in the gig. Reminded me of Dan Ackroyd's plumber on the old SNL.

My buddy was cracking up at Ed with the beer perched on his head. I was looking elsewhere and missed it. There's a great picture of it in another thread.
  • What a fantastic show, I would say it was one of the best I have been to. I'd list them all but you'd be really jealous. A big "screw you" who came from other sections and crowed the shit out of those who had to pay scalpers for good seats. The sound was good from my seats, and I love a happy and funny Ed. Though, WTF giving a tamborine to the blonde in the cowboy hat on stage? Wasn't being on stage enough?

A little sad we have to wait another (year?) to see them again.

    I keep humming Wash, ahhhh
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and
well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride! -Unknown

This comment merits a separate thread. I was in the third row with my wife and when she and Ed started dancing and swinging around on stage we both looked at each other with a blank expression. With each completed spin by Ed another inch of her crack peeked out. Although horrible, it was fascinating and I couldn't look away. Lets never mention this again.

Just to horrify you some more, what about when they all bowed for the front and turned around and bowed for the back. By the way, I was far from the stage at that point but the binoculars I brought with me enabled a much closer view.

  • I can't believe only ONE person has posted pics! Where are all the pictures people???!!!

I had FANTASTIC seats and took AMAZING pictures...but unfortuately Rite Aid decided they wanted to fuck me and RUINED MY PICTURES!!! This is true, and I actually almost cried.

I'm hoping to find someone who took great pics so I can offer them a buttload of money for a copy of their set. It's not looking good though. :(

I was First row, about five seats off center. This was the closest I've ever seen the guys play out of about twenty five times. Absolutely amazing. (ten club number 47,XXX)

Did anyone else think Stone seemed a little subdued?

The fast songs seemed particularly tight to me: Blood, Hail, Hail, Whipping, etc.

Also, I was speechless when they kicked into Alone. Just before they started, I was thinking to myself what the one song would be that I wanted to hear. And that was it. Ten seconds later, into they went.
  • I just realized that I am a magnet for Crown of Thorns... its been played, what 6 times EVER? I have heard it 3.

A lot of people seem to be pointing out parts of the crowd that didn't seem all that into the show but from where I was, towards the back of the arena, the crowd seemed absolutely amazing. So I am thinking overall those pockets of apathy were pretty small.

I just learned that Footsteps was on the orginal setlist but not played... this of course breaks my heart as I have been clamoring for that song for pretty much as long as I have been going to PJ shows.

I can't decide if this is my favorite show ever, although it might be. Its pretty much between last night and MSG I 2003.

I figured out the same thing yesterday... Crown of Thorns has only been played six times ever, and I've been at three of them as well!! Philly 05, NYC 03, ATL 03

I was section 114 row 9 too, seats 19 and 20. I met some cool people in the parking lot and smoked a jay with them while sippin back on some good ol' natty. Nice people from phili. And I swear I thought I saw eddie outside at like 4 45 or sometime hangin outside near the tee shirt stand near the fence where the main road to get in was be4 it had opened up. Not much more to say that hasn't already been said. The sound was a little bad (couldn't hear mikes solo's loud enough) but other than that it was so fuckin loud in there. No one thus far has mentioned when Ed slid on the ground towards mike and stood up and almost got taken out by mike swingin his guitar around. Or when during rockin in the free world when ed and corin were hitting their tambourines together. Ed started beatin the shit outta corins which was hilarious to watch.
  • Finally at the age of 30 i got to see my first PJ show. I've been a die hard since Junior year of high school, just never been able to make it. The tailgating was excellent. We called before we came out and the parking crew said it didn't open until 5pm. We went at noon and it was opened...so when we got there we called again. Same answer..5pm. So i said "That's funny, since i'm, SITTING IN YOUR PARKING LOT RIGHT NOW"

Anyway, awesome time...met a ton of people and drank a lot of beer. Can't wait to see them again

Hey! I was 2nd row just off center, I must have been right behind you! Thank you TC (78xxx)! I just love how this band takes care of us old timers. These were the best seats I ever had (since the days of standing room only shows) Stone definitely seemed chill, but he sounded tight and fantastic. It was great when he coaxed freaked-out Eddie to resume Crazy Mary. Did that freak you out too? It was weird! Even listening to the boot, it gives me the creeps.

I have to say that it's so great to see all the guys healthy and happy and still loving what they do. Mike looks so great. How do they still have this intense energy every time? They just seemed like they were having the best time - it's contagious! I was so psyched to hear Hard to Imagine. I have that on a bootleg (Whipping) from '92 and was thrilled when it made it on the Lost Dogs CD. But to hear that, Alone, Sad... so great. And Crown of Thorns, 2nd time I heard that. First was at MSG when I nearly fainted.

This was a great show. Worth getting the boot, definitely. Was this the best? Hard to say. Best seats I ever had. But I've been to all the MSG shows, I was at State College, and Randall's Island... This band just never seems to disappoint me. Thank you Pearl Jam for rocking with your hearts. And thank you TC for making it better and better to see shows and stay part of the magic. I'm sending you guys a little tasty treat as a thank you! xoxo

Lady luck has definitely smiled on me re: Crown of Thorns. Three times for me also...MSG, The Gorge, and Philly. What a week. A Philly show to die for followed two days later by HOB! Damn.

I was very excited about this show previous to it's arrival. I hadn't seen them since 2003 at the PNC in New Jersey where I'm from. Now, I first saw PJ April 12, 1992 at The Limelight in NYC, and again that following summer on Lollapalooza (along w/ Soundgarden who I must have seen ten times at little clubs in NYC, Cornell even sang back up, forget what song) when I was 22 years old. When I was 22 I was a very bitter, hurt and morose individual. When PJ came along, I found a beacon of light that told me no matter how fucked up everything was, somehow, some way, everything would be alright. I spent many nights alone with those songs for years up until Vitalogy came out. Many nights I thought of snuffing it, just fucking walking away, but instead I listened and made my way through another night...I lost touch with PJ after that as my life began to spin away from me, and did not see them again until 2003. By 2003, with a renewed interest in my boys I paid a LOT of money for tickets to that PNC show for good seats and it was worth every penny, I swore I'd not miss them again. They were spot on, fucking sound was immense and the setlist killed, got to hear gems that night, gems...fucking Hunger Strike was worth the cost alone, they also opened with Wash that night, as they did in Philly. Now I'm a spoiled club show brat, so even though I couldn't get a Ten Club tik, I managed to get a seat through Ticketmatser in the risers above the floor just behind the sound board. It was a pretty good seat considering it sold out in 4 minutes. But I will say this, they need to get rid of those fucking lights that are at the bands head level that shine out at the crowd at eye level, they are fucking blinding and I dont want to see spots I want to see my band fucking play. Now comparatively I know I'll probably never get another show like the Limelight, where they played all of Ten plus State, Leash (both unreleased at that point), I Got A Feeling and RITFW, closing with Release, where I experienced my first crowd surfing. Eddie jumped off the balcony during porch on top of me and i helped pass him around where I noticed the goosebumps on his shins, I'll never forget he had tiny shoes and a sore on his knee. Incidently, Jack Irons' band, Eleven, opened.Anyway, it was an intense show,a life changing spiritual experience. Remembering it got me through some of the darkest times of my life. Now, all this being said, I am a man in recovery for substances and alcohol, so this is full circle for me. I desperately wanted to be up close and feel that energy come off the stage, see the expressions on their faces. I seriously considered shelling out the necessary hundreds for a Borgata ticket. This is necessary for how far I've come in my life with all the positivity I now pursue. And watching Eddie grow from a "brooding, almost without hope, fuck it all anyway" guy into a positive influential brilliant songwriter/lyricist who thoroughly enjoys playing live music for his fans, who understands the spiritual elements behind what a concert is supposed to offer is just way beyond coincidence to me. It speaks volumes on persevering in this life and that inner peace can be attained. Who'da thunk it, enlightenment through a guitar....So when I got situated in that coporate money pit, I let the feel of the crowd seep into me so I wouldn't be distracted by the garbage that Wachovia truly is and stands for. And...it worked, met a guy behind me where we alternately called songs before they were played, him calling Faithful, me calling Nothingman, Harvest Moon and Crown of Thorns, oh thank fucking all the gods of music Crown of Thorns, they actually played it. AND they had fun, they had fun, this guy who once wouldn't do interviews and stopped being animated on stage for a while, because of all the hype and press interference, actuall is able to enjoy himself still when he plays these songs. I almost cried when In My Tree started (wave to all my friends..they don't seem to notice me...). It was an AMAZING setlist. And while there are still some songs I WILL hear before this part of the journey must end, I could not have asked for a better list on this night. How sadly fucking unfortunate that Wachovia sucked so much ASS in the way of sound, it was so fucking muddy I couldn't even understand what he was saying between songs. Now I know it wasn't Pearl Jam, because I've seen them sound incredible EVERY time. I was right behind the soundboard, where the sound should be ideal, and it's no excuse for the sound guy, a professional should tweak the sound in ANY venue. I've seen Tool sound AMAZING every time they play and I've seen themin big places and clubs. So, sorry soundguy, no excuse. No matter how shitty Wachovia may be, you should have had them clear as a bell. If it were any other band I would have left, but luckily their energy transferred and overcame that flaw, a huge fucking flaw if you ask me. Even the softer acoustic stuff was a bit muddy, it's just wrong, maybe they were more concerned with the levels for recording but jumping jesus on a fucking pogo stick, this is a state of the art technology world we're living in and its just lame that could happen. So next time guys, get someone who can turn some knobs and get rid of those blinding eye-level lights, I felt like I got pulled over by an angry cop with nothing better to do with his flashlight, so that this way you can do what you do best and that's just get up and play your songs as honestly as a band ever could...So thank you Pearl Jam for a great fucking show and fuck you Wachovia for being a money slut with a shit sound system.

    Much Love,
  • Wachovia sound did suck.

I downloaded the boot and heard Eddie say things that I didn't hear and I was there! Definately get this boot - there are so many good song version on this.

Nice story. I'm jealous - of some of it, like the limelight.
    Philly was awesome.
  • Either I have good ears or I was in a good part of the building...But I heard every word/lyric flub that eddie said...
When this just feels like spinning plates.
  • And by the way that crowd was great, i was in Sec 114 to Stone's left, sweet seats, great show.

That was my section too. Everyone was going as apeshit as me. I especially loved when they started the first chords of crown of thorns and I knew it immediately and looked around expecting confused faces...no one was confused...everyone knew we were about to share one fucking incredible moment together. It was fantastic.

I saw the show from 4 different locations.

Was upstairs behind the stage for most of Sleater-Kinney's set and sound wasn't great but I could understand the spoken parts.

For PJ, spent the main set about halfway back on the side (Stone & Boom) about stage height and the sound was good. Witnessed Crazy Mary and Alive from behind the stage in the runway entrance (lower level) and the sound was impeccable. Spent the final set towards the back before the turn in the lower level. Ed did quite a bit of talking and from this location I might have understood 5 words.

We were side-view on Stone's side and I couldn't understand shit. I *do* however believe I heard him say that the bottle was in fact a 40 of Natty Light. This was further evidenced by how quickly people downed the bottle at the end of Crazy Mary.

I was in 123 Row 10 on Mike's side, and sound was overall good, but definitely I've heard alot better. That said, the show fucking rocked...and I'm totally jamming in one of the pics issued with the bootleg (Mike playing to the crowd)....WOO-HOO!!!!!
