I said "Hey" to that guy in the Giants jersey on Saturday at the water taxis on Granville -- when the Giants had 0.1 percent chance of making the play-offs...
Curiously, Ed did not have a lot of banter beyond the "Who's from the US? Is there ANYONE from Canada here?" and then he intro'd the band after the swap, "That's Stone on Drums, Matt on Guitar..." The intro to smile was nice -- "I usually dedicate this to the audience, but tonight, I want to dedicate it to these guys on stage." And I don't share his politics, so I ignored the whole rant about, "US has been walkin with a limp for the past 10 years, it's nice to be in Canada where folks walk free...." Like it was a self-inflicted limp, man.
But the spit/swallow was f'n funny! Most of it was just serious-like, "So humble to still be playing, love these guys." Some words on Andy Wood before/after Chole/Crown. I don't remember too much else?
Here is a wickedly true story about what one Pearl Jam fan did for another Pearl Jam fan, on the night of Sunday September 25, 2011 in Vancouver BC.
Today (Oct 4th) driving to work I was in a right pissy mood. Even my dog was dodging me. After I dropped him at his playmates house I turned the radio to The Fox. I use to listen to them lots but I don't like their new morning chick so in protest I listen to CD's. That said, Jeff (the main host) was reading an email from a fan. It went something like this: "My name is Chris and on Sun Sept 25 the night PJ was in town I went to the PC but I was to broke to get a ticket so I stood outside the doors just listening. Up walked a man from the neighbourhood. We started talking and I told him PJ is my fav band. Next thing you know, the man (Steve from Mac's Electrics) gave me $100 from his wallet so I could buy a ticket."
That was an awesome story - I thought, PJ would be pleased. Especially since they represent (correct me if I am wrong) generosity, compassion, humanity and rock & roll.
Then after hearing the story I decided to google Mac's Electric and then I was talking to Steve. I told him I heard of the story on the radio and that I had to personally thank him for helping out a fellow Pearl Jam fan. Come to find out, Steve is a PJ fan too and he couldn't decide if he wanted to pay $80 for a ticket behind the stage or not. In the end he said "I felt better giving the money to Chris so he could see the show instead of me".
That is sweet - someones Wishlist came true!
That is the coolest damn thing I've heard/read/seen all day!
I agree. Fantastic story

Ed banter -- seriously, i don't think he said anything until right before Pilate, six songs in! And what a great run of songs that was, rope us in with a nice lil soft-song opener and then just WAIL away (Hail, Save, Animal, Got Some, GTF) ... loved that progression.
So his first words where about happy to be celebratin' 20 years in Vancouver. He mentions it's the bands 10th appearance in Vancouver! Not bad, every 2 years.... And he drops the "and I do believe our 5th show ever was here, January 1991!" And then he very slowly and clearly enunciated, "This song is called Pilate."

Hearing Eddie sing Chloe Dancer to go along with Crown Of Thorns was absolutly mind blowing. Lots of "No Code" on the setlist . Very few people seen sitting during the concert...Best show I've seen!
Disagree...WAY too many people sitting during the show. Very disappointed in the crowd. That's why Ed got on to them. Not sure what show some people were at here that thought the crowd was great because I was having to try and get people up around me. We were losing our minds and people were sitting down around us. WTF?

Disagree. Ed got on some people in the front row that didn't dig Ole as much as they might have dug... say... Not for You. This has has been discussed several hundred times already. He also spoke of how awesome the back rows were.
It's great you took it upon yourself to assist Ed with getting people up and having them rock- you were obviously the section leader for your area. The crowd was fine- not '2009 GM Place fine'- but solid. Regardless... I never let the people around me take away from my experience at a concert (unless they are farting their ass off or barfing on my shoes). I do look around, but for the most part... I spend the overwhelming majority of my time at shows connecting with the bands. I'm sure some of those people 'sitting down' were doing the same thing- just in their own way (just because they didn't 'mosh' did not mean they weren't having a good time and loving what was going on).
I still cannot get over this setlist. Freaking unbelievable. I cannot wait for the boots. I want to see these guys again- I'm pissed with myself for not taking time off work to travel east and see them before the last show of their mini-tour!

This was taken during the second chorus of GTF or Even Flow, folks knew the flood lights were coming, knew the chorus/singalong was coming. But everyone is indeed standing, just not a single arm in the air, a single head above the crowd rockin it. I'm sure 5 seconds later a few hands went up, I was totally waiting for this shot. But ... Your picture puts to rest 1 thing for certain: everybody was not sitting during the entire show.
The exact time and situation of your photo can be debated... but I think it is fair to say that if this moment of the concert demanded even the remotests fist pump or joyous jump... there would at least be 10-15 people doing so. To emphasize what I mean, look at the solo ED shows... there's always some idiot yelling when they shouldn't be. Given the uniform attention given by the entire crowd, it is clear that the moment demanded a level of subdued attention of the people- and the band was receiving it. Do you think if the crowd was screaming and jumping and chest bumping during Bee Girl that the band would have thought that was an appropriate response to the song?
I look in my area, which I can clearly see from your photo, and we are the same as everyone else. But I can tell you, with 100% certainty, that if the moment was calling for 'energy'... my friends and I were giving it.
Now... if there actually was ZOMBIES... holy fak... I had no juggernog, nor speed cola. In short, I was screwed.
I just looked closer at your picture. The band isn't even playing. The overhead lights are on lighting up the crowd and Ed is talking to us. Everyone is listening. Geez man. Why have I bothered with this one?
LOL -- you may be right. Don't remember taking shots between songs, ushers and what not, and I totally recall them hitting those lights during a few songs and me grabbin the camera for the second go 'round on the chorus.
But yeah, doesn't look like Stone or Matt are playing...
Well, still shows folks ARE standing -- and folks are usually nuts 'tween songs as well, least some of the shows I've been to. Even/esp when ed's talkin...

Can't believe almost 2 weeks have gone by...can't wait for a boot to relive! 3rd row Stone's side- thank you again 10C! Best investment ever. I was a little ashamed with the crowd energy near us...my buddy says I tried to make up for everyone else on my own! I think my neck finally stopped hurting from rocking out :P
My philosophy is, treat every show like it could be the last. I tried to leave it all on the floor for the band, as I felt they were doing for me.
Ed's reaction at the end of Ole gave me the chills. Hearing COT, Pilate and the No Code songs were amazing. With the exception of the XL Molson shirts being sold out, whole night was great for me...hope it wasn't my last.
Peace,
Matt

Does anybody know if there was a "Variant Poster" for Vancouver?
Pictures if you have one please.
You know what would be cool... if variant was whole another poster from different artist
Sorry I just hate it so much.
There is so much of inspiration around that city/area, North Indian Art, Oceans, even if you took a picture of that Totem in front of the venue and work little bit in photoshop would make much better poster that this guy did. Awfully ugly!
Anyway the show was awesome, amazing set list, I think I got to hear that night 7 new song after 21 shows...that is pretty sweet.
Pretty sure there was a variant. All the blue text is changed to white... that's it. And I think the artist was charging more than $100 for the variant...
