wow, first post ever, and you call Eddie a "fucking prick?"

And his taste in music is kinda shitty too (well, I guess at least he likes SOME Pearl Jam). Umemployable is awesome. :P

Didn't realize fans needed to build up a porfolio of fawning posts prior to calling things as they see it. Shitting on anyone who has given time and money to come to your show, with the exception of brawlers or the generally obnoxious, is just spoiled-ass bullshit. If he had not said a thing after the song it would have just passed as a great inspired performance....it was awesome! You could see the whole band really giving it on that one, trying hard to get the crowd as excited about it as they are, let alone EV crouched off the front of stage belting those last lines right into their faces. Yes, they deserved that, but not the call-out.... reminds me of some evangelical preacher pointing out the "non-believers" at his gathering. Having said that, if the duds were on Mike's side they probably would have called in the paramedics because only the clinically dead can be immune to that much positive energy!

To continue the "crowd sucked" discussion (wince) someone should compile crowd reaction "data" and compare it to day of the week. Not only are crowds ready to rock, I think bands are tuned into it as well. '09 in Vancouver was a great setlist, great connection, and it was on a Friday with a crowd that was off the scale. Edmonton on the Friday this time and a much more energetic setlist with a really responsive crowd.

Surely you can see the great chasm between a "portfolio of fawning posts" and logging on to a band's fanclub forum to call the lead singer a "fucking prick" in your introductory statement... right?

Nobody is questioning your right to state your opinion.

  • At the end of the day, ed prob should not yell at anyone who isn't causing harm. I mean, you don't know why they are not moving

HOWEVER - My emotions agree with Eddie. Anyone who has front row...got there one of two ways. They are either hardcore fans who have 100k number or less. OR, they got some special hook-up from someone on the inside and paid top dollar. Either way, eddie prob felt they were the latter. Cause anyone who has a number that got them front row is a die-hard and won't sit like a lump in the front.

I would of taken a swift kick to the nuts to get those seats and still would of been jumping around like a maniac.
I live my life like an Ocean in disguise
  • How about that fan who swatted Mike's shirt away when he threw it into the crowd at the end of the show? ROFL.
I'd frame that shit without washing it. The fan was in Row 1 too.

    REALLY?????????????

    WOW.....

I'd like to thanks that man because I ended up catching it :D

    Haven't washed it yet......

I'm just like you, I'd probably take 5 or 10 swift kicks to the nuts to get those front row tickets (I figure after the third one I would probably go numb). I was in the last row of Sec G and I still was singing along and jumping for every song. The set list was absolutely incredible, and I hope Eddie doesn't feel like everyone in the crowd was shit because of a few bad apples in the front row.

If they want energy from a Seattle crowd, I hope they decide to play a Ten Club only show at the Showbox. I would fight my way to the front and go nuts.

Thanks for taking my jab at your tastes with good humor. Anyhow, as for Ed, I don't entirely disagree, he can be a prick, but so can almost all of us. There's been the odd time when his on-stage behavior has rankled me. I remember thinking that the "mosquito bite" comment from 2000 was kinda funny but I also wondered if that girl also took it quite hard, lol. On this occasion, I thought he had a point. The band was putting out some pretty nice energy, and some of these people were acting rather stunned. Maybe that was it, they were stunned and in awe. :) Ed's human, he's not a marketing machine who is never going to commit a faux pas. I'd rather watch him this way.

I think he ripped it open when he fell jumping on the speakers or I noticed him wince when he was giving out the tambourines. I think he may have missed hitting them together and got his hand.

So yeah either way, he was rocking too hard!
  • Brought a girl to the show for her birthday.
Needless to say she was pretty stoked to hear Eddie and 12,000+ people sing "happy birthday" for her (sorta).

    :D

    Great night.

The opening riff of Porch gets me every single time.
  • I brought the whole family to this one, and it was the kids first time seeing the band. Everyone was blown away by how the crowd was, it was a treat to introduce the people i love to the band. They even played my step daughters favourite, Smile! And to hear Cloe Dancer, Glorified G, and Off he Goes for the first time, wow so awesome. Ole was a Eddie possesed was superb! And finally after all my shows, I got to see my favorite song from Ten, Garden!!!

Loved every minute of it and introducing my family to it.

First and foremost, Vancouver is wonderful. Flew in Friday and out Monday, a handful of Bay Area PJ fans on each flight. Saturday was beautiful and sunny, had awesome breakfast at Twisted Fork, fun on Granville Island (Hey, Mr Giants Jersey Pearl Jam Named!), a ferry ride, shopping, beautiful dinner, couldn't get enough in. Sunday we chilled, but got over to Gastown and into the Salt Tasting Room, two other couples doing that before the show. Good taste! Just dropping this now, the next time they play Vancouver, I'm renting out Salt for us.

And the best part, with a wife in a wheelchair, all the f'n Taxi Vans with wheelchair ramps. Just awesome. Nice that the post-show bus was free; one quick phone call and Jeff my taxi man was there in 10 minutes.

Nobody chooses who sits behind them, but wheelchair sections are iffy. Craptacular at Vancouver. Most shows the wheelchair section is roped off, folks can't crash into us. Ushers usually shoo people away from standing behind wheelchairs, chatting, screaming in our ears, spilling beer down our backs. Not so in Vancouver. In the normal seats, you get a chair between you and the bozo behind you. In other venues, we get good side seats looking right down at the stage.

Wheelchair sections were literally viewing balconies extended straight from the lobby, in the very back -- so anybody with a beer could stroll up right behind us. Wife got crashed into numerous times - our own lil' mosh pit. I went to put my arm around her and elbowed one lady in the groin -- if you're that close to my wife, Hello!

And then we had the plastic shields in front of us, muffling the sound. Guess that's to stop hockey pucks? Suxored. And then, for each wheelchair spot, there was an extra folding chair for companion. A few folks in wheelchairs were solo, so random guests just helped themselves to the chairs and wormed in throughout the show.

The section was raised enough that the folks sitting in the normal seats could stand and we could see over them, so that was sweet. She didn't enjoy staring at everyone's ass during the EV encores this summer – you know she’s there, just take a step to the side?

And our section turned out to be the gathering point for all the wayward split parties to meet up and talk throughout the show -- right behind us. During Bee Girl, three dudes started a cute lil' "sway line" and tried to get the girls behind us to join in and pretty much drunkenly hitting on them through the whole f'n song. Bee Girl! Sigh....

And we were in at 7:00 -- all XL shirts (the Molsen logo) were gone. And the poster sucked -- a freakin offset print??!??! But yeah, I got a bad, bad poster curse, the better the show is, the more the poster sucks. I'll take that. I'm almost giddy now when I see a poster that bad! OK, all that's outta the way.

HOW F'N GREAT WAS THAT FREAKIN SHOW!!!!

My eleventh show and my wife's FIRST show (not counting Bridge School), so Elderly was a good start for her cause I noodle that on the guitar all the time. Then she smiled and let me stand and rock out for HAIL HAIL. When was the last time Hail Hail and Corduroy were in the same show?!?! (rhetorical, i don't care, it was awesome!) And that whole sequence, ok um, the whole set just rocked. Save You mighta been a first for me, PILATE definitely was (and that was when, standing up, rocking, looking around, I noted I was with a bunch of casual fans). I was like whack-a-mole, if I was standing, everyone else was sitting. GARDEN I'm freakin spazzin' out, and resting through Even Flow, hehehee. Great jam on EF though, was really taking that in.

The wife was a trooper, and was surprised she knew as many as she did. Setting Forth was a nice reminder of how awesome EV shows are, they freakin' kill that as a band. Eddie said Matt asked him to let them play it. THANK YOU MATT! Hadn't heard Present Tense since '95 -- and I was really keeping my shit together up 'til then. Didn't want to make the lil' lady worry, but then the tear ducts opened up. I have my own twisted renditions of these songs in my head. Living in the present tense is all I have. We can't think about what the future holds for us, cause it's not good. And then Wishlist, Eddie is killing me, my heads buried in my arms pretending to rest. Thank God for Glorified and Lukin to get me back from that chasm!

But then, those last line in Porch, freakin every time the past few years since my wife's condition, "I know that i would not ever touch you, Hold you, Feel you, Ever hold, Never again...." And I'm a mess. Phew. Break. Gulping in air.

And then no, you're kidding me, I NEVER thought I'd get to hear it, never even hoped for it, but it's been permanent on my iPod since the daughter was born. F'n Bee Girl, and those other kinds of tears. (And I change that first line, "You're gonna cry!" when I sing it to her ... C'mon.) And Jeff nailed it, acoustic sound was perfect. Just Breathe was great timing. So many times over the years I've wanted to have the wife next to me at a show, and I just closed my eyes and held on tight. Don't even remember Off He Goes. I was already gone….

And now the curious part, the wife's been humming Mankind ever since! She really dug that! Damn it, Stone! She's mine! Sheesh! F'n Stone.... Not to mention him playing bass AND drums. My gawd man, give us a freakin chance! Too f'n fun!

SOLAT again hadn't heard since '95, so I really got my 20th anniversary celebration too! Ole, whatever, totally rockin -- I found it curious that they released that right before a South American tour. Curiously brilliant, that song is going to cause injuries next month! Alive, sure sure -- but the extended jam on that, SHAZAM! This was when the wife kinda went, meh, sing along to Rush was louder.

Words fail for Chloe/Crown ... never thought. Absof'namazing! Mesmerizing, my whole world just iris'd in on Eddie.

Words fail for Smile ... never thought. Always wanted to hear that. My cheeks hurt now. It's a good pain.

And then, what the heck, let's freaking just ROCK! Kinda thought they were done after Free World, and definitely after YL. I was fine, insert fork. Knew some Hendrix coulda been laid down, love that rendition from the Gorge and just kinda cherished that. And I can't believe it when the first riff of Little Wing begins. Ground Control to Major Tom! We have ignition...

How do they do that?!?!!? I mean, sure, I see some say it was disjointed, a really curious mix of tunes. Yes I was with a bunch of casual fans. But it just seemed, every song at every moment was just ... perfect. It really was. It's that feeling that maybe I should turn on the radio now ... and Pearl Jam is playing.

And one of the last dudes getting on our plane home, yep, walks on with the F'n Molsen Shirt! My wife laughs, he sits down behind us. A few moments later the stewardess has to reach in and tap him. "Mr Pearl Jam, you have to take your ear buds off for take-off. Then you can go back to that beautiful place you're in."

    It goes to ELEVEN!

  • What a great Show!

First off I was a little dissapointed in my fan club tickets but oh well.Too many damn fan club members from Seattle came up for the show, which I also think contributed to the crowd being good but not great as well as it being a Sunday night. Typically Vancouver crowds are incredible, but I would rank this one last among the five shows I've seen there.

Enough about the crowd, because the band was absolutely amazing! Extremely tight yet they were so relaxed and visibly having a great time.

Highlights for me were Garden, Present Tense, Save You, Smile, and an incredible version of Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns!

Two complaints would be that Small Town should never open a show, and the sound in the coliseum wasn't as good as Rogers Arena. The sound in the arena reminded me of listening to a 2010 bootleg, which kinda pissed me off.

  • What an awesome show. Being my first PJ show, I had no expectations other than it would rock. Great set list. A number of songs I was not expecting. The only bummer for me was not hearing Daughter live. It was on the set list for so long I just assumed we'd here it. Hearing State of Love and Trust made up for it.

I also really enjoyed Bee Girl, having never heard it before, and just seeing Ed and Jeff out there. Blew me away. One of my favorite albums is No Code so enjoyed all the songs played from there. Had hoped for some songs from Binaural, but have no complaints. I really dug having Stone sing Mankind, since he is hardly ever in the spotlight.

The band had a lot of energy and seemed to really be having fun up there. Enjoyed watching band members switch instruments and Ed running around in his crazy fashion.

Overall I thought the crowd was rocking, but dont' have anything to compare to. I did think the sound was a little muffled. Too bad for all those up front who couldn't figure out how to enjoy themselves better and pissing Ed off.

I thank 10C for the tickets. For being such a new memher I was on the Floor 26th Row. I was expecting to be way up there if I didn't win the lottery. It was worth the three days of the server going down and finally getting tickets.

My only regret is that it is over. All those months of wondering what the dates would be, beating the odds and getting tickets, waiting for months for the show to happen, countdowns, and now it's over. But, I still have the book, soundtrack and DVD to keep me busy. Plus, next year new album and hopefully a tour to somewhere nearby. What a ride this has been.

So much has been said that I agree with, so I'll just get on with the photos. I captured some good moments...Stone on Mankind, Matt/Stone swapped, etc. My favorite is Ed w/ the guitar during Porch.

Thank you for the photos - they are fantastic! I think we were sitting close to each other since I have a lot of similar shots except very blurry.

As for the show ... it was another amazing Pearl Jam experience for me. I loved every single second of it and, as always, left me wanting for more. So many highlight for me - CD/COT (wow, wow, wow), Bee Girl, the switch up of lyrics with reference to BC & pot on my favourite Given to Fly, Present Tense (totally unexpected), the amazing energy and seeing the band & Green River guys have so much fun with RITFW. Finishing with Hendrix. I felt the band had some amazing energy up there and were having a pretty damn good time (just made me laugh when Matt & Stone did the swap. Loved Matt's facial expressions - classic). Oh, and I totally forgot about Setting Forth, one of my faves.

Funny that Ed mentioned the low energy of a few people in row 1 because I had been thinking something similar, wishing I had been there instead. Fingers crossed for one day.

Still feeling so happy and lucky to have been there. Thank you PJ for the energy and the memories.

I'm pretty sure the same young girl that came with her mom who posts here that had earphones on 2 years ago and got stuff from Eddie was there again and got a tambourine and pick from McCready and got to be front row for the last couple songs. That was cool. Fan for life for sure. It's cool seeing them treat the young fans in attendance.

Yes, that was Molly again. That girl has some PJ angel watching over her! Long story short, my husband and 13 year old son got out row 12 10c tix for the first set, and Molly and I for the encores. We were right on the aisle Stone's side. Because she's short, she stood on the seats to see. After a few songs, Mr Anal Security guard came over and said she can't stand on the seat, can't be held in my arms, can't go on my back. I was fairly po'd, but at the same time I didn't want to ruin our experience or get kicked out for being ornerary. So Molly decides to go way out into the aisle to watch, as at least she has a sightline of the stage from there. Miraculously security lets her stay there. During RITFW, another security guard bee lines it for me. I'm thinking, oh oh, that's it for her. So he says to me, "would it be OK if I took your daughter up front so she could see better?" Um, OK thanks! So she goes on up, and in the mean time Ed is smashing tambourines over by Mike, and he's suddenly on his way over to Stone's side, sees her, comes right on over, and hands over a tambourine. And not just any tambourine, a blood splattered tambourine! I wish I could have seen her face! Let's just say she was holding it very cautiously when I met up with her! Oh and then Mike came over too and handed her a pick. Crazy! Needless to say, she/we were thrilled, and I am happy to report at least one very kind and lovely security guard at the Coliseum that night. Oh, and the show to that point too was fantastic. I felt somewhat spoiled in the Prairie shows with extra amazing seats, but I did like the perspective of being further back to see how the crowd reacts to the band. And really, for this show, it was all over the place from rocking to placid. And also I'm not a sound junkie, but even I could tell the sound wasn't great. Ah well, the energy and choice of set list made up for it. Gems for me: Smile, Bee Girl, and Chloe Dancer. Thanks to Pearl Jam for playing Canada again. You're welcome anytime. Cheers! Lisa
(PS if anyone has any picture or footage of Molly getting the tambourine, I'd love to see it. Thanks!)
  • I mentioned over in a different thread that the security was bit much down in the fan club section.
I was told 2 times to stop jumping up and down or i'd be asked to leave the venue. After the 2nd time I watched how many other people were told to stop jumping and having fun. Since I was in a different country I wasn't going to push my limits with them and decided to keep my feet on the floor and just enjoy the rest of the show.

A couple of my favorite parts of the show is when Mike snuck some guitar riffs in from UFO songs like "Rock Bottom" and then made faces at Tim in the crowd! Then when Tim got on stage that was also awesome and was fun to see him up there with the band! Look him up! He's an amazing guitarist!
  • Wow... couple days on now and I'm still smiling. That show blew me away. The first set was unbelievable. Present Tense and Garden destroyed my vocal cords. I don't think I've ever seen the boys play with so much purpose. I really liked the boys starting with elderly woman - good sing along song - hello! Crown was epic but Porch was just amazing - what is it about that song? the energy just builds... God can I go back and relive that please?

The show topped the Gorge-06 for me (though that is such a spectacular venue). I limped out having trashed my legs and back bouncing around in the mental fashion that Ed was giving as a prerequisite for front row - it was a good hurt though... dulled by the euphoria but I hope someone noticed as I submit it as evidence for qualification for the next show I go to! I don't know about anyone else but I was completely spent by the end of the show - voice, body and mind exhausted but smiling.

Thanks 10C, you guys take care of us for tics - I've never not had good seats (though this time I didn't even make it to the floor due to the huge Washington State migration). I'm a Vancouver native and I met a lot of fine folks from Seattle (including the pair of ladies who road-tripped at the last moment, got nose bleed tics but snuck into our section- nice to meet you and it was our pleasure letting you stand on our seats so you could see). Isn't that part of what makes this Pearl Jam show thing so special? - you meet die-hard fans that have traveled from far and wide (as you may have done yourself on occasion). I've seen about every major band out there - Pearl jam is the only one I travel for and if I can't, I so often get the bootleg and pretend....

Thanks for a great evening - it will not be forgotten.

It was my 7 year old boy's first Pearl Jam show, and it's all he's been talking about for the last 3 days!

He was a little overwhelmed at first, but now he can't wait to see them again. Thank you to the people around us. They were very kind.

Does anyone have a scan of the setlist? I'd like to print out a copy for my son, and hang it in his room. Thanks!
  • Thanks for taking my jab at your tastes with good humor.

Yes, I agree; heat of the moment. Given the ever-increasing number of people holding up cameras/phones with each passing month I imagine the disconnect becomes similarily ever more annoying to the players. Not sure if EV's reaction was to that in particular but I suppose having only one tirade on this tour is an indication of good restraint on his part! Still kind of funny he did while wearing a T-shirt with a Peace sign on it!
  • To finish off.... I will get this bootleg because:
    1. I was there (duh)
    2. Room sound sucked, so will be nice to hear how it could have been.
3.From the start with Elderly through to Corduroy was just an excellent sequence of songs with a great pace, playing, energy etc. Garden, Pilate rarities. The band was in fine form. Will be my umpteenth copy of Evenflow, but this version had a particularily good and long solo/jam section with bluesy lead-off by Mike that picked up speed with some really hard grooving by the "huddle".
    3. Present Tense
    4. Porch. Many versions already, but similar to Evenflow this had a nice extended and hard grooving jam. The segue back into the closing vocal not as seemless as usual, they seemed a bit at odds there for a bar or two working up to it, but hey, that just makes it longer!
    5. Encore 1: Mankind rarity obviously and sound was particularily muddy so want to hear it proper.
Just Breathe was strong, good accompanying keys, are they filling it out a bit more?
    Ole freak out!
6 Encore 2: worth the boot price all by itself! Great performances of MLB songs. Search and Destroy, to set it apart from other shows(?), had basically a screaming match to close it out. EV lost! Not too surprising given previous 2 hours of great singing.
RITFW was just a wild version. Tim Dejulio was really good (people confused him for Neil Young, I thought he looked more like Bob Dylan), Stone had a good solo in there too, and Matt was hitting hard with lots of heavy fills.
Little Wing is a favourite, will be nice to hear EV's singing without the mud.
  • For those of you muppets that missed it. I know, you were all still stroking each other at the pre party, and I don't mean that in the way (literally) some of you just took it.

Mike McCready joining Mudhoney for yet another one of a kind version of one of the finest hard rock songs ever - difficult to imagine that you could possibly improve this song, but the wall of guitars was ferocious and truly awesome!!! The poor sound quality of this recording does not do the performance justice. Mark, Steve, Guy, Dan, and Mike, you absolutely should release an official recording of this performance!!! Pretty please with sugar on top!

    Here is another memorable version from prior to PJ20 . . . . .

Oh my... Well, that's how awesome I found the actual PJ set. I had totally overlooked that! Yeah, Mudhoney saying something like, "another guitar will just make this better" and out comes Mike.

    And sonic mayhem ensues!

    Oh yeah, Trundle? +1!

very nice. Garden and Unemployable woulda made my night, but they actually played little wing? That's just awesome.

also, I love stone on the drums. a bit different beat on YLB, kinda of a dance beat, but so cool to see. Hope you all had a killer time

btw, what the hell did ed do to his hand. seen a video where he's bleeding. rocking too hard?

I think he ripped it open when he fell jumping on the speakers or I noticed him wince when he was giving out the tambourines. I think he may have missed hitting them together and got his hand.

So yeah either way, he was rocking too hard!

    haha sounds about right
  • im still thinking about this show nonstop. god damn it was good. ive watched Chloe 4 or 5 times now.....what a moment. So Much Fun!

Sounds like you didn't miss it! It sure seemed like most folks missed seeing Mike perform with Mudhoney, and also have little appreciation of what a special song this is.
  • Hey guys! It's been a while since I've been here, but I've missed it and wanted to post some vids from the Vancouver show. They're not the best cause my camera wasn't focusing for some reason, so I had to keep zooming in and out to make it refocus.

First though, HOW UNBELIEVABLE was that show!?? I couldn't believe how good it was. Unfortunately, I was surrounded by people who looked like they were falling asleep and, even worse, behind some that could be classified as giants. I was pretty much on my tippy toes all night and the next day I couldn't walk cause my calf muscles were dead... should've worn heels. Anyway, I was getting a better view looking through my camera so I got quite a bit of stuff, a bit shaky and blurry at times, but worth a look. I've also got a lot of other shows on there if you guys want to peruse :)

You know when Ed's talking about who the next song is dedicated to and some small part of you is just wishing to hear your name, no matter how unlikely? It was so nice to hear my name before Present Tense :) He MAY have been talking about his little girl, but in my head they were playing that for me and my mom. So nice of them.

Also, when I went to the Gorge in 06 and heard the Little Wing tag on YL, I almost cried. Mike is my God and to hear one of my favourite covers tagged onto my favourite song was like heaven to my ears. The next night I may have died and gone there when Eddie started "Well she's walking...." I have never had goosebumps like that before and probably never will again. To top it all off, Mike's solo to end the night was almost orgasmic... I can't tell you how many times I've watched that video (it's in my collection if you want to experience an eargasm).

I was then told they had never done the whole song before, which left me feeling privileged but also sad that I would probably never see/hear them play it again. So you can guess how I felt about the closer on Sunday. I can't explain it, so you'll just have to guess.

Amazing show. I've caught the PJ bug again, might just have to start looking at flights to Costa Rica.

Anyway, here's the link to my videos, hope you enjoy!
