The only version of Fortunate Son which is passable is the Perth version with Johnny Marr as guest guitarist.

Many other versions are incredibly loose with incredibly un-tight intros, or are 'ruined' by the vocal graces of Sleater-Kinney!

Raleigh Gimme Some Truth is good, but personally I prefer the MSG 1 version, but i guess we all have this one one on the DVD.
Perth version of Fortunate Son is good. :D

I'll second that Perth is the best one.

I reckon there were two other good versions as well, but Perth stands out.

    :D

    Great !!

I'll try and test the bonus tracklist as it is and see how it goes. I guess we don't want to change the album's original tracklist, do we ?

  • Can't Keep from Bristow 2003-07-01 is another great version.

More intense than Lexington. Worth checking out :)

Hell Yeah to both of you, b/c I was at that show. Great version of that song, but I didn't want to suggest it because I am a bit biased about that one.

    btw..

    The Venue in Bristow Sucks!!!!

Whilst I agree that there is more intensity in Can't Keep from Bristow, the lyrics are all mixed up.

I've lived all these lives, like an ocean is disguise is swapped around for ...forgive every being, and Ed is desperately mixing them all back around as the song continues.

My favourite version is Mansfield 3, but Lexington offers a different sort of vibe.

Love that we all find different things to love about each show, performance, sound, ad-lib, guitar fluff etc!

    I'm back online!

Haven't listened to the Bristow Can't Keep - but would be a shame to get messed up vocals for that song.

I can join in on a bit of Can't keep comparison in a few minutes if it's helpful....

The mess up is not that bad. Second verse comes first and first verse comes second, with 'wait for ever' instead of 'live for ever'. Still makes sense.

I listened to those 3 Can't Keep- Lexington, Bristow and Mansfield 3 - and out of those the one I got the best reaction from was Bristow.

Would be interested to hear any other suggestions to compare it to though. Another of my all time fave PJ songs! :D I do love me some RIot Act

Well, I did realize that the lyrics were mixed up but they still made sense. I didn't hear any desperate mixing there ;)
During that tour there were many different versions of the song, the verses are mixed in many of them
There is even one version where the first verse is sang twice
Another good version with correct lyrics (if I remember correctly) is Camden 7/5.

My vote is still on Bristow. Way over Mansfield and Lexington. I sort of like Tokyo  :? :shh: too. But Bristow all the way for me !!

I am tending back towards the Bristow Can't Keep - it has something intense and memorable about it - and the changes in lyrics don't alter the sense of the song.

This is the point at which my brain starts to go fuzzy!

If it's any help, I've listened to both Camden and Bristow back and forth, I like Bristow ten times more. It starts off much better. I'm not so keen on the start of the Camden Can't keep and, considering it's gonna be track 1, well ....
