Project #8 - The Whispers of War: Riot Act Live

After a short break, Electricxlovex, Myra, Tremors, and myself are back to give "Riot Act" the live treatment. Our team has a lot of love for this album, and although historically there has not been a whole lot of love to go around for "Riot Act", I have received a lot of emails, PM's, and comments asking for "Riot Act". This leads me to believe that a lot of you out there feel the same way about this album as we do. So without further comment, let's begin Project #8.

Here are some parameters that we would like to go by for this project:

-All songs must be from the 2003 Tour.

-All songs must be from the "Official Bootleg Series" of 2003.

-We will add 4-5 bonus songs at the end, which will be covers/B-sides from the 2003 Tour.

-No repeat shows. (i.e. each song must come from a different show)

-Out of respect for the wishes of the 10c and the 9 fans who passed away at Roskilde, we will not include "Arc" on this project. I hope that everybody will understand why we are doing this and will not be too upset that "Arc" will not be included.

Please feel free to use this thread to make suggestions and give us feedback as to what would be good to include on this new compilation (and what wouldn't be good). I will be updating the working track list for this project on the front page of this thread (right here). Our plan is to slowly start putting this together on Monday (February 21st) and have it completed and ready for download by or before next Saturday (February 26th).

Please feel free to check out our other projects as well:

    yes yes yes yes !!

Working on some Patriot suggestion at the moment.
  • Patriot from Tampa is very good!
  • I think Help, Help from Adelaide is a pretty good one but it has been a long time since i've listened to it.
  • I have to say that "Gimme Some Truth" from Raleigh, NC was an excellent rendition.

I like the "Give Peace A Chance" sing along from that show. I was listening to it on the way to work this morning.

Indeed. Along with that from New Orleans. I reckon Mansfield's stands out though, it's somehow more intense than the other versions I've listened to. As though the song builds up and holds back, builds up and holds back. Really like this one !

  • I do agree patriot at Mansfield would be a good choice. Of course I had to suggest Tampa since I was there!

    Looking forward to this one!

I will recommend All or None from Albany, 29/04/03 as it was only played 5 times and at least 2 of those have significant lyrics incorrect or missing (Osaka and New York) This is the first version that works and it really does sound great!

I like Bushleaguer from Brisbane 08/02/03 before the big 'controversy' surrounding its inclusion in the setlists. This is the version when Ed mumbles, "it's disgsuting" a few times at the end of the song. Listening to other versions, very few have the "A thinktank of... line, with Ed often starting off with "Aloof multiplication."

Other suggestion for now is Can't Keep from Lexington 21/04/03 as it isn't played as the set opener, but is included in the main set, so the band seem a bit more relaxed with it.

2003 was a great tour, and I remember only one of the shows featured Eddie on electric guitar for a unique version of Thumbing My Way. All others were on classical guitar. I'll have to work out which one it was.

  • Great choice with All Or None :D Beautiful and moving version IMO.

I love the song. Unfortunately it isn't played enough.

Listening to You Are at the moment so I'll suggest some versions later.

Electric Thumbing My Way was from Fargo 15/06.

Instrumental jam in Nagoya, Japan 06/03
Improv House of Blues webcast 12/04
Improv St.Louis 22/04 (regime change starts at home!)

Yes, indeed, thats soooo good. The 2003 bootlegs series, seemed to capture Vedder's voice really naturally, its high in the mix (very subjective, I know, but personally speaking ;) ). Don't Be Shy from Tokyo is one of my favorite renditions . . .

Cameronforpresident, Myra, Tremors, Hello! Thanks, in advance, for another great effort . . . this one may be your biggest challenge to date! The choices are plentifull. We will all understand if this project takes the most time to compile.

Some of my favorite performances of that tour, just off the top of my head . . .

    1. Growing up- NJ
    2. Driven to tears, do not have a particular show in mind
    3. Gimme some truth- State College (if I remember correctly there is some Ed banter at the end of this, which depending on your point of view is enjoyable or not).
    4. Blue, Red, Gray- San Deigo
    5. Wishlist (I know it wont be included :( . . .)- San Diego, but the improv at the end is one of my favorite moments of that tour.
    6. LBC, when done as an opener, I think MSG was good.

There are so many great moments in '03 . . .

Good luck with the venture, I'm sure it will Rock!

And as always, thanks for making new and creative ways to listening to our beloved band!

    Thanks NorthShoreBlue ! :D

If I recall correctly LBC from MSG was pretty sweet indeed.

I think I might be done with Down.
How about Pittsburgh, 2003/04/26 ? It really was a tie with 3 others (at least), so if we need that show for another track, it can easily be changed.

I'm on board. Some great suggestions coming in. I've just dusted off my collection of Official 2003 bootlegs (I don't have all of them!!) - and will try and make some suggestions over the next hour or so

    Lots of great LBC !!
I sort of feel that LBC from MSG is a bit too obvious a choice. And obviously an opener too, whereas it will be at #3 here, so it might not work that well.

Really like Sydney so far, but I'm not quite there yet with listening to them (almost) all ...
