"I Won't Back Down" has been played a total of 10 times according to the 10c, and I have all of these boots. The problem that we have is that I am pretty sure that Eddie fucks up the lyrics on all ten.
And this song is damn hard to sing right ! Makes for a great sing-along
It's one of the best sing-along's, no mater where you are at. Car, shower, at work, concert, grocery store, I could go on and on.

All I need is (1) "I Won't Back Down" and a final word on bonus song track order
* sigh* I don't know anymore.
Do you want to change it or was it just me in the first place ?
I'm good with the bonus track order though. I mean, we could move Give peace a chance around a bit and it'd probably be relevant and I wouldn't mind, but I sort of feel it's a good transition, a sort of 'encore break'. But then again, I'm fine either way.

Personally I like the bonus track order the way it is. It flows really good.
As for I Won't Back Down, I say we go with Vancouver and see how it fits on Version 1.

All sounds cool
The current one is the only 2003 I won't back down that I've heard recently, so I can't really give an informed opinion. I liked it a lot though - mainly to do with the relevance and significance amongst the other covers.
Just listened to the Rough Draft again until my battery died.... still sounding very nice!

Thoughts on Version 1?
-"I Won't Back Down"?
-Bonus Song Track Order?
-Any other songs that need to be changed for another one?
-Thoughts/Opinions?

Like it ! Sounds really good !
I like this 'I won't back down' slightly better than Missoula's. I think that, apart from the vocals, I was also a bit bothered by the 'yooyoos' in the background, if that makes sense.
I wouldn't change the track order, I reckon the bonuses run smoothly from one song onto another all the way to Fortunate son as it is, and it's pretty relevant meaning-wise too.
There's just one song I need to check out on after work tonight, but I'm almost confident that's superfluous

Highlights for me (as of now) : Can't keep, You are, Bu$hleaguer, Help Help, I am a Patriot and Fortunate son.
I sort of expected more from Get right somehow. I'm taking a Get right trip to see if there's any version out there that could be trippier, messier, rawer, well, I don't know, but 'more'. This one is good, but I don't get more out of it than from the studio version.
Just got some free time after a super busy day - have not made it all the way through version 1 yet - but it was sounding real good. I will try and complete my listening in the next hour, and so have more to say on the covers etc.
Have been enjoying this a lot - but I think some RIot Act tracks have never really worked as well 'live' as on the record, and some of the songs as songs just aren't as strong as their other material - so without the particular mood of the studio record, they suffer a bit. I think the bonus tracks are really capturing some of the spirit of the tour though - and are a really good listen in their own right.
Will try and listen now and report back

For Version 2 we may be looking for a new "Get Right" and "I Am Mine", any suggestions from the board? We had a lot of great suggestions early on. Where has everyone gone off to? We would love to hear people's opinions and suggestions.

Just had a good listen through to the 'Riot Act' portion of the album - and I have some opinions! Wanna hear them? Probably not, but....
It's difficult, because I really enjoyed the Version 1 overall, but I found I enjoyed some tracks more than I do on the studio album, and others less so - a mixed bag. For me, the studio album works because I love the first haf so much, that I can kind of forgive the second half, and I get into the spirit of it. For me the studio album works because of the way Ed sings it - from some deep dark places I think. On the road though it's obviously an entirely different atmosphere - and with this collection I found myself enjoying You Are, Help Help, Half full and some others more than I would the standalone tracks on the record.
Personally speaking, the bits of version 1 that I wouldn't change, and that really work for me - are Save You, Thumbing my way, You Are, Ghost, Help Help, Half full, all or none - and I think the bonus tracks are great, and I'll say more when I come to them in a bit.
Below are the tracks which on the current collection I feel a bit let down by, and am wondering if we can find better versions, if we have the inclination - to really push this into being a 'great' collection. I will say why I am left a bit flat by these tracks
Can't Keep - the changes in lyrics after a few listens are preventing me getting too much into the song - also I think we are missing a lyric from the later part of the song (but I can't remember which one now!). I agree it's an intense version - and maybe we can leave this alone and I will adjust
Cropduster - the studio cut is in my top 5 Pearl Jam songs   - but I am not really getting this effect live - it might be that there isn't a better version, but I will volunteer to go through a lot of different cropdusters tomorrow and see if there is one with a bit more 'magic' in it. Also this version does have some squealing feedback in it about half way through.
I am Mine - really got into the second half of this song, but not so much the first half. I think we would benefit from a more 'epic' sounding opening.
Get Right - this version seems a bit flat, and I think this is a clear case of a song which should be better live than on the record.
Anyway - feel free to throw out any or all of these opinions, but these were my personal reactions to Version 1 Riot Act section - overall great, but my favourite songs (the first three mentioned above) didn't move me as much 'live' as on the record. I don't know if there are any versions out there that would do - but I'm happy to try and find the ultimate (imo) cropduster if this is helpful.

Wow....
That's quite a bit. I was thinking that we could explore our options on "I Am Mine" and "Get Right" and change those out, but I am not sure about "Can't Keep" and "Cropduster". What does the rest of the team think?
Let's start getting some replacements.

phew
Although RA is one of my two favorite albums, so I didn't really expect to 'discover' songs there as I did with the previous projects, there are songs I expected more of.
I reckon Cropduster might be one of them, for the exact opposite reason ie I expected to finally 'meet' it for it's not been a go-to song for me so far. I'm not unhappy with the one we've got now though.
I'm happy with Can't keep, but then again I can understand the change in the lyrics may also be off-putting.
As for I am mine and Get right, well, those could benefit from a new listening session and selection I guess.
Am currently listening to Get right and I find I might like Mexico City and possibly Toronto better. But I'll keep listening, I'm not through yet.
okay, have listened to version 1 twice (will listen again tonight)
like i've said before, Riot Act is probably my least listened to PJ album. Affected my expectations of many of the songs.
I agree with most of what myra and tremors have already said
Get Right - like this one, but feel like there must be a rockier version. Similar to how I felt about God's Dice (or maybe it was something else) when we were doing the Binaural project.
Like tremors has already said, I Am Mine is another of the songs that I would probably want to have another search for.
I like the version of Can't Keep, I think it's cool. Like it a lot. First listen not so much, but second time round it sounded much better.
Cropduster - I think it's good. I know there were some sound issues with this, but I think it's good. But it isn't one of my favourites at all, by a mile. So can't really give it proper critique, had quite low expectations if i'm honest  But I like it
Ghost, Help Help and You Are are very good IMO Loved them, specially Help Help - another Riot Act song that I wasn't the most keen on I guess. this project has definitely opened my ears and mind towards Riot Act, some songs have really shined and sound great. Save You is good too, one of my favourites probably because it's one of the more upbeat rockier songs if you get me
as to the bonus tracks, they are cool. Wasn't familiar with "I Won't Back Down" so I'm glad that I got to hear it. they sounded great to me - but I'm not familiar with some of the covers that PJ do so I'm not the most helpful with songs like that. But I liked the ones we had
I will give it another listen and give you some more feedback, but to be honest apart from Get Right (which I think that we all agree on) and I Am Mine, I think the rest are A-oK
Sounds like focusing in on Get Right and I am Mine would make sense then - I really enjoyed the collection - I enjoyed Cropduster and Can't Keep a lot - I was just wondering if they could be made even better.
I am happy with us trying to improve these two songs primarily though.
Sorry, just got off a long phonecall, and am shattered now - but should have plenty of energy tomorrow to assist with the quest for I am Mine and Get Right!

Been listening to more versions of Get Right to replace my Mansfield 1 suggestion.
I liked Toronto too, but check out Bonner Springs 12/06! Ed's vocals aren't as hot, but Mike is on fire, which the song needs!
Agreed ! That's what we're looking for I reckon. Some twist somewhere along the way, not just a clean live record version ! I think Oklahoma City (04/03) does the trick too. But good call on Bonner Springs !

I liked Toronto too, but check out Bonner Springs 12/06! Ed's vocals aren't as hot, but Mike is on fire, which the song needs!

I just listened to the bonus tracks as a segment   Really enjoyed those - I think that is the best bonus section we have had in our collections - and it really does good in meeting one of our aims of capturing the spirit of a tour. Good stuff all round I think

I Am Mine!!! Tricky one this one as alot of the lyrics are repeated and so Ed often gets them mixed up, but if you listen to versions after April 2003, even up to the present, he always ends the song with "We're safe tonight."
This isn't the lyric. AND, it's quite an important ending to the song I feel.
It should end with...
All the innocents lost at one time
We're all different behind the eyes

Can we use Showbox DVD version 2002??
Sorry, just the 2003 tour. I am not as impressed with the DVD-Audio rip of Showbox as I am with the official boots.

* sigh* I don't know anymore.
 Especially at the grocery store.

There's just one song I need to check out on after work tonight, but I'm almost confident that's superfluous
the 'yooyoos' were bothering me too.

I sort of expected more from Get right somehow. I'm taking a Get right trip to see if there's any version out there that could be trippier, messier, rawer, well, I don't know, but 'more'. This one is good, but I don't get more out of it than from the studio version.

I don't know if there are any versions out there that would do - but I'm happy to try and find the ultimate (imo) cropduster if this is helpful.
phew

Wow....
That's quite a bit. I was thinking that we could explore our options on "I Am Mine" and "Get Right" and change those out, but I am not sure about "Can't Keep" and "Cropduster". What does the rest of the team think?
Let's start getting some replacements.
1998: Va Beach VA
2000: Va Beach VA, Columbia MD
2003: Raleigh NC, Bristow VA
2008: Washington DC
2009: Philly 3
2010: Bristow VA

2014: Cincinnati, OH
2016: Hampton, VA, Raleigh, NC
But I'll keep listening, I'm not through yet.
like i've said before, Riot Act is probably my least listened to PJ album.
I liked Toronto too, but check out Bonner Springs 12/06! Ed's vocals aren't as hot, but Mike is on fire, which the song needs!
Checking now
I am happy with us trying to improve these two songs primarily though.
Sorry, just got off a long phonecall, and am shattered now - but should have plenty of energy tomorrow to assist with the quest for I am Mine and Get Right!
