I was sitting behind a car today driving home from work and this guy had the rainbow flag stickered all over his boot, a flag inside, and rainbow flag pillow things inside under the back windscreen.
Is that going too far?, okay you are homosexual don't have to parade it.
Is there a straight flag, I want to decorate my car.

  • I think for some it is a new identity, and therefore they embrace every aspect of that identity. When I was at University there was a guy on my course who showed no signs of being gay or camp at all for the first year, then when he came back after the summer break he announced he was gay and went into full on queen mode. His voice had suddenly become very camp, the kind of language he used - it was quite a surprise to be honest.

I suppose the need to define their sexuality so overtly might come from the fact that the world is still quite homophobic. Therefore some may see it that they can either be discreet, choosing to ignore the comments made around them and live a life of shame, or they can fully embrace the gay community and make it perfectly clear that they are gay and proud of it.

It's a bit like racism really. Very few white people will ever truly experience the prejudice that people of colour will. Sure we can empathise to an extent, but we're not likely to ever experience it at quite the same level.
  • :? how did he upset you

his car let him do as he likes
+ 1.whats the problem?his car..can do what ever he wants...

I'm not sure why people care so much who is gay or not.

It seems people get upset if the famous don't come out and there is so much speculation,
like the public is angry they hide something and are not themselves.
Then when people do come out and are openly gay people don't like that either.

If you have loved a gay person in your life you will see sexual preference means absolutely nothing.
We are all people looking for happiness and love and should be treated with respect.

This person you mention is proud of who they are, cheers to that!

If you saw a car completely decked out in, say, Hello Kitty or Pearl Jam or Twilight (or any other) stuff, would your reaction be the same? Ok, you like Hello Kitty, you don't have to parade it?

People parade all sorts of things every day, usually things that are a big part of their lives, which is completely fine unless it's offensive or dangerous to others (or illegal etc).

When it comes to gay people parading their sexual orientation, I think it's fair to let them be as flamboyant as they like. After all, heterosexuality is paraded around everywhere and constantly. Hell, I guess when I walk around holding hands with my boyfriend, we're parading around being all straight and stuff. The gay community just came up with a much more colourful way of displaying their orientation.

how close to the car were you that you could read the stickers? were you right up his arse... i bet you were.... did you stick your bumper up his exhaust pipe? was it a Land Rover? was it a 4X4? cos they can get through a lot of shit.... which would be apt.

    ;)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

i have to agree with the OP. it's called over kill. one thing is enough, you don't need an entire army of gaydom in your car. or pjdom or whatever.

So is there some etiquette out there regarding bumper stickers and exactly how many is too many?

    I have 8 bumper stickers.

    "Agility Dogs On Board"
    "Run Fast, Run Clean"
    "Agility University"
"What Happens at the Agility Trial Stays At The Agility Trial"
    "Woof"
    "Wag More, Bark Less"
"Your Honor Student is a Pawn in My Labrador Retriever's World Domination Plot"
and of course the big Pearl Jam, Seattle WA sticker.

    Is that too many?

that's too many. consider cutting back.

actually, 1 is too many IMO.

the point is, there is a fine line between showing your pride and flaming.

lets say you really like cows for some goofy reason. should you paint your car black and white in cow patterns? put on cow seat covers? and in stuffed cows in the back window? yeah, i agree it's too much, but i've seen this car.

Ah, nothing like coming back to work after a threeday weekend to find the homophobes hard at work. Good to see there is still room in a PJ fan's heart for such intolerance.

No worries. I just don't want to be lumped in with the rest of the homophobes. I mean, don't get me wrong, when it comes to people I am as intolerant as they come, but it doesn't have anything to do with sex, race, religion, color, creed, age, national origin, or even sexuality.

    very well put

    who gives a fuck

I've seen many people hide it for a long time then when they come out it is like a new birth, they have lifted such a great weight off their shoulders and are then able to enjoy their lives and be happy

isn't that all we want for any of those we care for, is to be happy?

    no, just bisexual.

hmmm... this reminds of the time i wanted to start a MOWO awards ceremony... cos in the UK we have the MOBO's which is a celebration of Music of Black Origin... so i wanted to start a white only one... but i wasn't allowed... and there was the time i was in the Police and in the police we have a Federation of Asian Policemen, so i wanted to start a Federation of Angry Scottish People, which was technically a minority consisting of just me and Wee Mental Jimmy... but again i wasnt allowed.

Most straight people don't feel the need to have a straight flag, because the typical assumption is that people are straight. When I tell people I'm married, most assume it's to a man. That would really piss me off if I were a lesbian. It actually pisses me off anyway. I agree with Emmi - we flaunt that we're heterosexual all the time...without really thinking about it because we don't have to. And most people never throw it in our face as being overkill.
