I've asked it over and over again, it is central to the whole argument, but no one on the pro-death penalty side seems to have the guts to try to answer it. Any time I've asked it it's been studiously ignored, like all the other sticky questions that they don't like.
Why is it wrong for one person to commit murder and right for another person to commit murder?
any dictionary defines murder as:
The unlawful killing of one human by another, especially with premeditated malice.
executing a murderer is not unlawful.
That is not true -- depends on what country or state you are in.
it is amazing how many catchers in the rye we have in this thread. either that or they feel they are avengers and vigilantes...i love it when people who have no dog in the fight speak the loudest....

yes, especially when it COSTS MORE TO EXECUTE A PRISONER THAN IT DOES TO KEEP THEM ALIVE....if you were so concerned about your tax dollars maybe you should investigate that, because it seems like an awful waste of tax money to execute people...

wolfy
what we are saying is
if you take a life
yours will be taken
simple as that
why can't you get your head around that?
I know exactly what you're saying. It's hard not to - you have repeated yourselves to the point of boredom. What I'm interested in is how you can logically justify it. It's you who can't (or refuses to get your head around that. The more often you sidestep the question, the more obvious it becomes that you have no answer and lack the basic moral and human decency to face that.
we do not want to execute the suspects we are 99.9% sure about
we want the absolute guilty
caught in the act
or on video
or full confession
or any murder without any doubt
And yet I doubt you would call for clemency for the countless cases I've come across where there has been significant questions raised, including new evidence, which is then ignored by the courts, and despite the lack of 100% proof that person has been executed. Fact of the matter is, you will be hard-pressed to find many executions that have been carried out that were 100% certain, so by your own admission, you should reject the death penalty in the vast majority of capital cases.
If it is consensual, then by definition, no, it is not murder. If not it is a grey area, and very much depending on the circumstances. However, I don't see what the relevance to your point is.
we feel we are right in saying we want the absolute guilty to die
we feel you are wrong in saying that you do not believe the absolute guilty should die because that would also be murder
Yes, I think if there’s one thing we all know, it’s this. You’re saying nothing here that I haven’t said myself along with many other people on both sides.
we feel if you take a life, you have lost all the rights to yours
but tell me, what rights do you feel a confessing murderer has?
I answered this several pages ago. If you bothered paying attention to all of what people say, and not just hear only what you want to hear, you’d know that, and this thread would be a lot shorter and more sensible.
i assume that you've accepted the facts that
if you smoke cigarettes, you might die
if you drink alcohol, you might die
if you drive fast, you might die
if you cross the street, you might die
but if you murder someone, you should not die?
Completely false logic. In all of the previous cases, you are talking about what passively happens to you through your own actions and no one else. There is no direct correlation. It is a completely invalid point.
I think I’ve covered everything there. Shame you folks can’t be bothered doing the same.

Gimme, If I were pro-DP or against, I would be very concerned about what I found about my state either way:
"Florida would save $51 million each year by punishing all first-degree murderers with life in prison without parole, according to estimates by the Palm Beach Post. Based on the 44 executions Florida has carried out since 1976, that amounts to an approximate cost of $24 million for each execution. This finding takes into account the relatively few inmates who are actually executed, as well as the time and effort expended on capital defendants who are tried but convicted of a lesser murder charge, and those whose death sentences are overturned on appeal" http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/costs-death-penalty

it IS ridiculous. the state spends $24 million PER EXECUTION...that is 24 million bucks that will never go to things in the budget that need that money. and in total to execute 44 prisioners florida has spent a whopping 1,056,000,000.........nearly $1.1 TRILLION on 44 people...
see i wouldn't lie to you guys.

I don't think we are debating that. What is being debated is the consequence itself. One is killing a person to avenge the killing of another one. Not really for punishment, in my opinion, but for revenge.
