Thank God this season is over.

Jason Garrett will be the coach. I am OK with that.

It is ridiculous. I can't speak for a minority but I think I would be insulted by it. The rule reduces minority candidates to nothing more than "token" interviews.

Anyway, I also think they rebound next year. That seems to be the pattern with this team.

Oh, and just to put a bow on this thing, this is what I think will/should/could happen.

Jason Garrett will be named head coach and I think they keep Paul Pasuqaloni as defensive coordinator. Not sure what they do with offensive coordinator, if anything.

No change at QB, unless Kitna retires. He was a serviceable backup and McGee looked pretty good in limited playing time.

Receivers: Say good-bye to Roy Williams. I think Jerry cuts him. Probably last year for Sam Hurd too. They go into next season with Bryant, Austin, Ogletree and whoever they pick up along the way.

TE: No change. Witten had a great year. Bennett will be back. Phillips too.

RB: Bye-bye Barber. Baber is just a shadow of his former self. Besides, the three-way at RB wasn't working anyway. Time for Felix Jones and Tashard Choice to step it up.

OL: Here is where the big changes will happen. This line has had the window closed on it and were the #1 source of the problems on offense. Columbo can no longer play. Davis's contract is too big. Free and Kosier are free agents. The backups all suck. Gurode is a player, but always has trouble with snapping - kind of an important job for the center. I expect major changes here through the draft and free agency.

DL: Spears, Bowen and Hatcher are all free. I think the Cowboys will try to keep Spears and Hatcher. The ought to cut Olshanksy

LB: No one is a free agent here, but they will go ahead and cut Brooking. Everyone else is under 30 and will be back.

Safety: Ugh. They need all new safeties. Sesnsabaugh and Ball suck and are both free agents anyway.

CB: Again, Ugh. The secondary was the worst part of the defense. Newman has clearly lost a step. I still think Mike Jenkins can play but he's a head case. Scandrick is just OK. That's the problem with this defense. Too many players are just OK. No one is a play-maker outside of Ware.

Obviously need to do something about kicker.

so funny that the vikings are essentially are in the same situation with leslie frazier, but they don't have to worry about parading a minority in for a token interview because they already have their minority!

this rule may have been kind of a good idea about 20 or 30 years before the nfl actually adopted it. now, not so much.

Stupid Cowboys. I love that the Mavs, Rangers, Stars, and FC Dallas are getting all the attention this year.

I don't know what it is but I really like the hiring of Jason Garrettl! Maybe it's the fact that he was a former Cowboys player and knows what it takes to win championships. Maybe its because of the Ivy influence in his discipline. Or maybe its his youth and fire...I feel good about this one going forward.

Also, it seems as though Jerry may allow Jason a little more input than other coaches. Either way, I think Garrett brings us a championship within the next 3 seasons...

Well think about it Jeagler, if your boss says you have the final say on something, and then he comes to you later and says, "we are doing this, what do you say?" then what do you say?

Of course I don't believe Jerry. I just think it is funny that he had to make a point about it and had to interrupt Garrett to do it.

Garrett is the right hire though. I wanted them to keep Payton a few years ago.

Yeah, I am hoping that Garrett cleans house a little and gets coaches that he is most comfortable with. The whole, "let's pick a coaching staff and then hire a head coach" crap has to go...It doesn't work and will never work.

Source: Cowboys to hire Rob Ryan

The Dallas Cowboys will hire Rob Ryan as their defensive coordinator, a team source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Ryan interviewed with Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett and owner/general manager Jerry Jones on Friday. While Ryan still has a year left on his deal in Cleveland, the Browns will go in a different direction under new coach Pat Shurmur.

Ryan, the twin brother of New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan, has spent the past two seasons as Cleveland's defensive coordinator after a five-year stint with the Oakland Raiders. He won two Super Bowl rings in New England as the Patriots' linebackers coach. His father, Buddy, was a longtime NFL coach and irked many Cowboys fans during his time in Philadelphia.

Cleveland had the 22nd-ranked defense in 2010, allowing 350.1 yards per game, and it was tied for 13th with 20.8 points allowed per game. The Cowboys allowed 351.8 yards and 27.3 points per game in 2010. While not tremendous numbers, the Browns defense improved nine spots in yards in 2010 and had a spike in turnovers with 19 interceptions and nine fumble recoveries.

The Cowboys are committed to the 3-4 defense, and Ryan is the third coordinator Garrett interviewed who has experience in that system. However, San Diego scooped up Greg Manusky, and San Francisco is reportedly set to keep Vic Fangio with new head coach Jim Harbaugh. Paul Pasqualoni, who closed the season as the Cowboys' coordinator, is now the head coach at UConn.

Information from ESPNDallas.com's Todd Archer was used in this report.

Yeah, I like Rob Ryan as a D coordinator. I just can't stand his dumbass brother. Oh yeah, his father was an ass too ;)

I think he will improve the D, provided we get some good help at Safety.

I guess we'll see how it works out. If the offense performs the way it did in the second half of the season then the defense should only have to improve into the top 10-15.

This may be the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. Maybe I need to quit looking at profootballtalk as they can be idiots at times...

Cowboys would “think about” listening to offers for Dez Bryant

A member of the Cowboys front office told ESPNDallas.com’s Calvin Watkins that the team “would think about” trading wide receiver Dez Bryant this offseason.

This is one of those stories that we can hear being denied by the team before it gets any room to grow.

Bryant appeared to be everything the Cowboys wanted and more when he was on the field as a rookie. But former Cowboys receiver Patrick Crayton hinted that not everything was as simple behind the scenes.

“They let [Bryant] get away with a lot of stuff. A lot of stuff,” Crayton said of Bryant per Matt Mosley of ESPN.com.

“Hopefully whoever they bring in as receivers coach, and they say [Jason] Garrett is a disciplinarian, won’t let him get away with so much stuff. He’ll get locked down and hopefully be the next Michael Irvin,” Crayton said. (Nice shot at Garrett there from Crayton.)

It’s hard to imagine the Cowboys really thinking hard about trading Bryant. Perhaps this little missive to the media is an indirect way to tell Bryant to show up to meetings on time and get in the playbook, which were reportedly issues for the young receiver.

It’s a dangerous approach. Bryant may not handle hearing this news well, which is why we expect a quick denial.

Six Flags is almost next door. Six Flags, the Rangers Ballpark, and the Death Star are all lined up on the highway. Their parking lots kind of run together. It is possible to park at Six Flags and walk to Jerry World from there.

You should rent a car in Dallas. There is almost no good public transportation to speak of.

    Where are you staying?

You can PM me if you want. I grew up in Dallas and live in a suburb of it now.

Michael Vick gets key to Dallas

Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway gave the key to the city to Michael Vick, the quarterback for the rival Philadelphia Eagles, causing an uproar among animal rights activists Saturday.

In 2007, Vick was convicted of a felony related to a dogfighting ring and served 19 months in prison.

"The message and the kids are far greater than all this response about, 'Why give him the key to the city?'" Caraway told ESPNDallas on Monday afternoon. "He is telling kids and exchanging with them the rights and wrongs of the things that he did and encouraging kids to further their education and to not deal with the drugs. To obey their parents and pick the people they hang around.

"That's a message I would challenge anybody to say that not one kid across America shouldn't hear from people in notoriety such as Michael Vick."

Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert distanced himself from the action later Monday.

"The action taken was not sanctioned by my office and was not an official ceremonial honor on behalf of the City of Dallas," he said in a statement. "Official Keys to the City are presented by the Mayor, or an elected official designated by the Mayor, and reserved, on a limited basis, for an elected official of international status. Clearly, this was not the case in this situation and done without my knowledge or approval."

Local radio reporter Richard Hunter attended the event and filmed it. In the video, Hunter says that he actually adopted one of the dogs from Vick's home and he tries to speak with the Philadelphia quarterback at Saturday's event. Vick does not speak to him.

After serving his prison time, Vick was signed by the Eagles in 2009. This past season he was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year after making the Pro Bowl with the Eagles.

Caraway is a city council member and as Mayor Pro Tem serves the role that a vice-mayor would if Dallas had that office.
