  • I hate to stick up for the Yankees, but they had a much better record without Alex Rodriguez. And in general, closers are vastly overrated. I don't know if Rivera has been all that much better than an average closer this year - not that familiar with the numbers.

Now... What Phillies have been on the DL this year? Jimmy Rollins. Ryan Howard. Chase Utley. Placido Polanco. Carlos Ruiz. Brad Lidge. Ryan Madson. Jamie Moyer. Brian Schneider. Besides the Red Sox, nobody has had more injuries than the Phillies this year.

But guys like Morneau and Nathan are proportionally much more important to their team the A-Rod. The Yanks lose A-Rod and they'll basically have the AL All-Star team still out there. That's what makes the Twins so great–-everyone pitches in and picks up slack. This has happened basically every year since 2001. How can you not root for that? The Twins deserve to finally win it all.

If teams that deserved to win actually won, the Cubs probably would have won a long time ago in a lot of peoples minds. The Twins may "deserve" to win, but reality says different. Good luck anyway, it was a fun year till the Sox collapsed. Congratulations on the Division.

Deserve's got nothing to do with it kid.

I think I've said enough times, I am rooting for the Twins, as long as they aren't playing the Phillies.

So you're already conceding the division?

Yanks go down in 4 this year. Did you see Sabathia and Chamberlain last night? LOL! The biggest game of the year and they crapped the bed. Sabathia should spend more time working on his pitches and less time eating Red Baron Bacon Lovers pizzas. Jeter's bat is in the shitter right now too and he has the range of an arthritic hippo. Nick Swisher is pretty good but there's more than a 50% chance he'll get lost on the way to the ballpark. I do like Rachel Maddow at first base—she's also pretty good. Bring it on!

  • I don't even consider the Yankees a legitimate team. The Phillies were the best team in baseball last year.

Yes the Yankees technically "won" the World Series but it's in the same sense as someone cashing a check.
I'm going to be jumping with glee when Boston takes the Wild Card and the Yankees go home for October.

On behalf of my new-born son I wrote a short note to Joe Mauer this Spring. Just received his reply. What a classy individual, playing for a classy franchise.

Well here we go. The Twins have played some of their worst baseball the last week and a half but it all goes out the window now. Weather looks like it's going to cooperate quite nicely for both games 1 and 2. The squad is about as rested as they can possibly be and the starting rotation seems pretty poised. The key will simply be playing sound, fundamental Twins baseball. You don't need to hit a million home runs or strikeout A-Rod 50 times. Just play damn good baseball. They didn't do that last year and it cost them the series. Play your game and I think it's Twins in 5.

On a side note other than the Yankees we've got some very likable teams in the playoffs this year. I'm hoping for a Twins/Rangers ALCS myself and then a Twins/Reds WS.

What the hell is that supposed to mean? This is the Twins thread genius, of course I'm going to think optimistically and predict their winning. I don't go on the Yankees thread and complain how everyone "talks about the Yankees too much". Think about it.

  • Hang in there Twins fans. The Twins lost but it was hardly a dominating victory. Pavano was great against NY last year and I think he'll do it again. The big thing for the Twins is to bounce back and stay of the "here we go again" mentality.

The Yankee thread is full of a lot of really vile smack talk but I'm staying out of it. That organization is ugly all around.
