Do you guys think host South Africa have a chance of upsetting Mexico in the opening game Friday? I say yes.

My predictions for this World Cup.....for me it has to be a country in South America my top FIVE....

    1. Brazil.. seems to be able to turn it up a level when they need to. More players needed if the chemistry comes together this will be the team to beat.

    2. Spain....Top notch goalkeeper in Casillas. By winning EURO 2008, Spain seemed to get the monkey off their backs in terms of a reputation for not performing at the international level.

    3. Argentina..Performed well at times and over the last couple of World Cups have been the most talented team. With Diego as their coach, this could take them far.

    4. England....This team seems jinxed and unable to live up to high expectations. I expect the USA team to pull an upset on 6/12.

    5. France.....They will miss Zidane and it is unclear what kind of form Vieira and Henry will be in.

Our cab driver this weekend was talking about Nigeria as a big sleeper team. His homeland, naturally.

Ha ha. I watched the last game Donovan played for Everton, and the fans were actually saying "You must stay", not USA. Kind of playing on our whole lame chant since we can't come up with any clever ones for our team.

Everyone here in S.A. believes it. And they will have one hell of a homefield advantage.

For me Spain is the favourite but with my heart I know that Argentina can make it if Maradona change the tactics because Messi is on FIRE! 8-)

England, Holland and Germany could be there too... Brazil... hopefully Portugal and Ivory Coast (without Drogba they aren't dangerous) take them out on the first round... ;)

    Can't fucking wait...

also a Euro nation has never won it outside of Europe... but that means fuck all really does it? Considering its the 1st African one as well... I wonder who will be the best African country? Ivory Coast, South Africa, Algeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria... some good teams in there.

This post does not contain sarcasm, double entendre, racial/gender slurs, soft-core porn or a single reference to the storied history of the Kingdom of Scotland. I am most annoyed and more than a little confused.

True but this is going to be in mild weather. I don't think they will face the heat and humidity that they've had in other world cups. I still go for a European winner, I think it's the South Americans that will struggle. There again I also know fuck all.

I would like for Spain or Holland to win, seeing they've always been up there but never won.

Depends on how Robben goes, I like the look of Netherlands this year. Obviously not ridiculously stacked like Spain and Argentina are, but still....

I've obviously got my bunch to follow, but seeing how they're likely to crash out in the groups, I'd like to see the Oranje break through for their 1st win.

My buddy is having a keg and a bunch of people over on Saturday. I, on the other hand, will be in the backyard the entire time drinking my face off.

    why?

I honestly cannot understand why americans don't find football exciting to watch... there are no stoppages every 3.4 seconds unlike american football... it's highly skillful, creative, energetic, etc...

fair enough if you don't watch it, but its the worlds most popular sport and must be for a very good reason...

I'll be supporting the US on your behalf. ;)
