interesting. I'd be careful. I know it's an important game coming off of a loss, but they need these guys for the rest of the season. and it is the lions.

Exactly. And Bradley hits like a missile. I'm sure he could use the week off.

Source: Vick to start; Bradley, Kolb progress, but still out of practice
Michael Vick will start Sunday against the Lions, according to a team source, confirming what was widely expected.

Linebacker Stewart Bradley and quarterback Kevin Kolb both sat in team meetings today, a sign of progress after they were each concussed Sunday, but it still seems highly unlikely that either will play against Detroit.

Bradley was seen doing light exercises in the Eagles training room, though neither player is expected to practice today.

Even if team doctors clear the two, they would still need to get an OK from independent doctor to return to play.

While the Eagles won't publicly commit to playing Vick as a starter against the Lions, coaches did say that Mike McGlynn will start at center and Omar Gaither will start at middle linebacker if Bradley is held out.

Coordinators Marty Mornhinweg, Sean McDermott and Bobby April gave glimpses into their planning and concerns for their game this week.

Mornhinweg stressed the challenge presented by the Lions' defensive line, which features defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. "Their front is just excellent and this will be a really good challenge for us."

McDermott -- somewhat less convincingly -- played up the talent of Lions back up quarterback Shaun Hill, expected to start in place of the injured Matthew Stafford. "He's a veteran quarterback, so he has seen the blitz looks ... he has great football instincts, so I'm sure he's well prepared to do a good job."

Bobby April, meanwhile, said his team has work to do on both kick off coverage and kick returns.

The Eagles gave up long returns after several scores Sunday, giving the Packers the chance to strike back.

"It was not good. The thing about that particular play, it's a critical play for a lot of reasons. It's the first defensive play of the series," April said. "We have a chance to literally establish the field position for our defensive football team with one single play, so it's critical that that one single play to determine that is good."

On kick coverage, April said he needs to better detail his plans and a few individual players need to make better plays in coverage. Just one person getting of his block can stop a return short. The return game, April said, is tougher to address because a kick return requires 11 players working in unison. Despite averaging a start around the 30 yard line, April said that number was bolstered by a Packers' kick out of bounds.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner Jeags, been ripping knotty pine off my basement wall all week (which was a cathartic experience after last sunday's debacle for the cowboys), but anyway there were two reasons I don't like (but am glad you have Kolb) since the draft. One is that my good friend is a Memphis alum and watches all the conference games (or most anyway) and had suggested for several years that Kolb was a college system QB and wasn't that good, and I just took his info as good. Two, and this is admittedly much weaker than one, his highlights from college confirmed in my mind, what my friend said, all his passes seemed to be 10 yard outs from the shotgun that receivers turned into big plays. In time, that might work within the Eagles system, but I really just don't think he's an NFL QB. Still if you're willing to have a bad season it might be worth keeping him in there and giving him a shot once he gets back. On the other hand, if you want a shot at playoffs behind a decimated O-line Vick has to be the better choice.

ripping knotty pine off your basement wall sounds like an awful time!

fair enough. and you may end up being right but we have to find out sooner or later. there's also plenty of reasons listed in this thread why he may work out. i dont feel like listing them again  .....one thing is certain--big andy's job is riding on him succeeding. so it shoudl be interesting regardless.

think the cowboys are gonna cover? line seems kinda high to me...

Cowboys covering...hmmm. If this team is as good as I think they are they win 31-10. They are getting Kosier and Columbo back which means only 1.5 holding penalties this week at inopportune times instead of 4.5, thereby killing 3 less drives that go 50 yards to nowhere. Everyone else is healthy and pressuring Cutler usually leads to good things for the other team. On the other hand, and I won't be shocked if this is true, the Cowboys could just straight suck. They wouldn't suck because they don't have the talent, but because they are undisciplined. That is worse to me than rooting for someone that rebuilding towards something, because we have every piece in place to be a great squad:
Romo is a top-10 QB (probably closer to 10 than I'd like to admit), 3 good RBs, a good TE (I like him less than most), 2-3 good wideouts (Austin is always open somehow), great defense, a good Kick off specialist, and a good punter (field goal kicking is not to be discussed right now).

If this doesn't work then we can't really get any better so the Cowboys will be stuck in Eagles-like purgatory too good to suck enough to get better, and too bad to win anything.

a vick-led eagles team getting to the playoffs doesn't help anything. it gives them an early playoff exit and middle of the road draft pick. vick isn't their qb of the future, he's a waste of space.

why the cowboys? I see you're from towson. I'm a towson grad. last time I checked that was a long ways from dallas

towson/nova tomorrow jeags. towson coming off of a tough 5 OT win last week

kolb and bradley both ruled out sunday. no surprise there

nova should win by 25+. only thing towson football program has going for it is the starting LT on the SB champs

  • Did I hear correctly that Fat Andy already said Kolb will start if healthy? He will be annihilated behind that O-line. I'd stick with Vick if they want to win this year.
  • I gotta start bettin these games.

Jeags would call me a fake cowboy fan, and it's been explained elsewhere but I grew up in a small town outside of Watertown, NY where we didn't even get cable...we didn't even get NBC which had AFC football...we didn't even get Giants games regularly because they didn't get ratings there. So basically my choices were the 49ers, Redskins, Rams, Cowboys, and, if you were in the "home" team mood the Giants (which was like 5 hours away). My mom was a 9ers fan, my Grandpa a Redskins fan, and my uncles were for the Rams and Cowboys - I chose the latter. Anyway, now I'm a prof in sport management at Towson Universtiy what was your major? I gotta teacb the Center from the football team tomorrow he'll undoubtably be upset after the blowout against Nova, had him in 4 classes now...real nice kid. BTW I was right the Cowboys straight suck and Vick is pretty much your chance at playoffs this year no way Kolb survives behind that line for a full season.

up 18 with 5 and a half to play.....when's a win a loss? when it's not a cover. sons of bitches.

anyway....vick looks better than he has ever been. a year under 5 and with andy and marty seems to really have rubbed off on him. andy says kolb is starting next week. hopefully he actually gives him a chance to succeed this time.

nate allen...2 games 2 picks. hopefully b graham is alright. i think he had a sack in the first half. the d looks so much better with stu in there. hopefully he's back next week too.

    dallas....0-2. love it

nice. I'm always fascinated as to how people become fans of their favorite teams.

I majored in Business Admin at towson, got a minor in economics (waste of time and money with the minor). A few months ago my wife and I stopped in towson on our way home from DC. Had lunch at Batemans. I hadn't been there in 7 years or so. I can't believe how much construction the university and the area has completed (or is completing...the roads are a mess down there).

A bunch of my buddies majored in sports management. Dave Meggett was finishing up his degree while we were there and they had some classes with him. Said he was a great dude. He should come back and play for the football team, they could use the help.

Are the girls still as impressive as they were in the late 90's early 00's? Must be a perk of your job to enjoy that scenery on a daily basis. damn, I miss college.

ugly game. the offensive line stinks. trade vick now. also amazing how much of a difference bradley makes.

nice to see all the teams in the division lose. was funny watching donovan shit the bed in a close game...don't miss those days.

mcnabb's performance yesterday was probably one of the best qb performances by a redskin in a couple decades. he's not the reason they lost. that team's better than people think...

back door covers are the worst. there are some bets you lose and feel like you made a dumb bet. not this one. i stand by that birds pick. up 18 with 5 and a half to go. you can't ask for much more than that. the final score was clearly not indicative how the game went.

    heiny lites are decent beers.

mcnabb's numbers were good, but when it counted he shit himself. I'd be willing to bet that 90% of his passing numbers came in quarters 1-3. He was all over the place in the 4th qtr and OT. He's just not a guy that can handle pressure...never has been. I loved watching him choke as usual.

I didn't think Vick starting on the road with that eagles team was an ideal situation to lay almost a TD

BDA (back door action), is the reason why I like taking dogs better than favorites.

did you watch the game? he put them in position to win it with that fg. guy hits the first but it didn't count b/c of the texans icing timeout. then he completely shanked the next one. i really hate that rule. they lost to a better team but should be 2-1 going into the linc as predicted.

and vick was the reason the birds won that game dude. he's the reason the line went up to 6. would've been about 4 with the kolber in there. ....we're only 3 pt favorites against an awful jags team with kolb getting the start and bradley cleared to play.

yeah, watched every game yesterday. was at my buddy's place who has 5 direct TV feeds in his basement. redskins had multiple chances to put that game away in 4th qtr and OT. mcnabb couldn't get it done. too much pressure for him. he definitely pees sitting down
