June 26 Update: Saric's decision to stay in Turkey and play for Efes for a minimum of two years certainly will affect his draft stock. A team in the top 10 will be unlikely to take a flier on him knowing he won't be in the NBA for a couple of seasons. But based on talent, Saric is one of the top 10 prospects in this draft. He has one of the highest basketball IQs in the 2014 draft class, can pass the ball, scores in multiple ways, is a good rebounder and is a fierce competitor. If he continues to improve in Turkey, he will be ready to make an instant impact in the NBA in a couple of seasons.
June 16 Update: Saric's agent announced that he will keep his name in this year's draft. However there is still no word on whether Saric will stay in Europe or play in the NBA next year. Saric could go as high as the Lakers at 7 and I don't think he slides past the Hawks at 15.
June 11 Update: Saric was actually ranked No. 1 on this list last season before inexplicably withdrawing two weeks before the draft. Saric had a lottery "promise" from the Dallas Mavericks, and sources say he likely would've gone even higher to the Blazers at No. 10. He improved in virtually every aspect of his game this year but the questions about whether he'll withdraw from the draft again or insist on staying in Europe if he is drafted hover over his draft stock.
Strip all that away however and many NBA GMs regard Saric as the player with the highest basketball IQ of anyone in the draft. He sees the floor and plays the game like a 6-foot-10 point guard. He's had extensive experience and production for a player his age. He won the Adriatic League Finals MVP this year and has had success in places like the Nike Hoop Summit and Under-19 Championships.
Saric's greatest skill is his passing and ballhandling ability -- both of which are elite for a player his size. He also has proved to be a terrific rebounder and can be an aggressive scorer when called upon. Even his jump shot, once considered his biggest liability, has improved.
He's a unique prospect who could help many teams right now. (I doubt any of the players on our Big Board could produce in the Adriatic League the way Saric has this year.) But until teams are convinced he's committed to coming to the NBA, his draft stock remains in flux.
June 4 Update: Saric isn't in the U.S., so he doesn't get the attention his game deserves. That's too bad. He continues to dominate in real games as opposed to one-on-none workouts like his fellow prospects. He's now moved into the Croatian playoffs and is averaging 19.2 PPG for Cibona. In his last game, versus Cedevita, he scored 28 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had five assists. His production has been remarkable this season and he's worthy, in terms of talent, of a being in the same conversation with Vonleh, Smart, Randle and Gordon. However, questions still linger regarding whether he'll leave for the NBA this year or stay in Europe at least one, possibly two, more years. Until that is definitively resolved, teams remain a bit wary of taking him too high.
May 19 Update: Saric's play at the Adriatic Final Four put an exclamation point on a terrific season. He not only led his team to the Adriatic League championship, he was named MVP, averaging 22 PPG, 13 RPG and 6.5 APG while shooting a red-hot 8-for-16 from beyond the arc. There's no question he's an elite talent. The bigger issue is whether he's actually going to go to the NBA this year. His father wants him to stay in Europe at least one more season, possibly two. Saric's agents would like him to go now, as many of the teams in the lottery are more interested if he's available this season. If he can get a promise from a team in the top 10, he'll likely stay in the draft. April 30 Update: Saric is one of the hardest players on this list to place. There is still so much confusion around when he plans on joining the NBA. He has a new agent, who says Saric will declare for the draft but is still non-committal about when he'll actually be willing to leave Europe. Most likely, given comments by his father and the likelihood that he signs with a European team this summer, he's not coming over until the 2016-17 season at the earliest. Will someone be willing to wait that long? I think so. He has that sort of talent. The Sixers or Magic look to be his best shot in the lottery with their second picks. The Sixers especially had strong interest last year. April 16 Update: Saric has hired a new agent, Misko Raznatovic, who told the website DraftExpress that his client would declare for the draft this year. However, it is unlikely that Saric will come to the NBA next season, and it's possible he won't until the 2016-17 season.
April 8 Update: Saric is a wizard with the ball and if it were clear he was heading to the NBA this season, he'd be in our top 10 (which he was the entire season). However, his father, and multiple sources in Europe, say that he's staying overseas for at least another year, which diminishes his value to teams drafting in the lottery.
one of my friends suggested Embiid and MCW for Wiggins.
