Good point. A lot of people wrote off Jeter.

I don't buy that honestly. He's reaching. I can't remember the exact season but Jeter had a horrible first half...I thinkit was 03 or 04 and Jeter was getting booed at Yankee Stadium.

I'm talking about 2010 and early last year. He looked shot. Everyone thought that was a terrible contract. He was horrific in 2010.

But yethealways showed up in the playoffs. I'm looking at Jeter;s career stats as I' typing this and 2010 was not the most "Jeter" type year it still wasn't horrible...and there wasnt really a fanbase calling for him to be traded either.

Girardi likes to use alot of "we's" when it comes to decision making. The longer he stays with the Yankees the more I seem to realize he was probably chosen over Mattingly because he is a yes man and a stats man.

Good thing the hysterical fanbase doesn't dictate the teams decisions. It was pretty horrible. He is my favorite player ever but he looked very old.

Edit: And there was a significant portion on Cashmans side telling him to let him find another contract then come back to the team.

Jeter was never benched, moved down in the order, or pinch hit for.

Arod was...most of the fan base doesn't like him. That's a fact. When you're at the Stadium the majority isn't waiting for him to succeed....they're waiting for him to fail. That's a problem and more and more he's failing...especially in the playoffs.

But there were fans calling for it...so by your philosophy, it should have happened, right?

ARod has had his picture on the mantle ever since he came to NY. COme on. He was pretty much hated since day one. It's his time and I fully believe he's gone. For every anti_jeter article there's 100 hundred pro ones. That DEFINATELY can not be said about ARoid.

Such a generalization. Sure he gets booed by some and it got louder as the playoffs went on, but during the ALDS the entire bleachers were literally trying to will a hit out of the guy. If he did something big, that stadium would have fucking exploded. It's a love-hate relationship with the guy for sure but there is no way I would say "most of the fan base doesn't like him".

I have always said football has destroyed so many baseball fans. It's those people that I feel hate Arod. Maybe there are more now after this year, but in general, I always found it to be the knuckleheads.

Like I said, it's a good thing hysterical fans don't dictate the Yankees moves. I do dig your generalizations. He is a polarizing player. Always has been. ANd obviously about Jeter, I'm just saying, there was a corner of Yankees fans that were calling for him to bat 9th and for the Yanks to let him walk.

And I couldn't care less if Arod had gay porn on his mantle. I love watching the dude play baseball, until these past couple years at a least. But a bomb by Arod for me, is one for the more exciting things in baseball.

You've been waiting a while for one of those bombs then! Especially in the playoffs.

Come on. This is not some overnight thing with ARod. It's been building and building. It's now reached the time to pop. Quite simply that's the way it is. And saying the majority of Yankee fans don't like ARod may be in your eyes a generlization but in my eyes is a realization. When he comes to back he literally sucks the life out of the Stadium with fans just waiting for him to fail.

Ha, I couldn't disagree more as someone who attended 10-15 or so games this year. Even when he is slumping, I feel like the stadium always feels like something big could happen. And yes, there are always boos when it doesn't but that stuff is just idiotc.

Whatever, we know you don't like the guy.

On that note, I'm out, the only good thing about not having a game tonight is that I won't be distracted all night while having steaks and whiskey.

Edit: And the feeling during the ALDS was for real. That whoel stadium was behind him like I have never seen. It was awesome.

i've been behind arod since his first game in a yankee jersey, stuck with him time and time again, but i am not going to lie... this postseason may have been the last straw for me personally (plate performance, hi mom, snagging a model's number, etc).

but i do agree with cliffy... whether you are watching the game on TV or live in the stadium, when he comes to the plate, you pay attention. HE is the guy you get excited about watching bat. without a doubt, the yankees have had a talented lineup in the past decade, but before arod, i think the only guy i got really excited to watch bat live is giambi (just the past 10 years worth of yankee rosters).

jeter is magical, no question. but bloop singles off the hands can't compare to an arod or giambi blasting 440 foot home runs in the upper deck of yankee fucking stadium. that's old school bombers.

remember that home run arod hit in the old stadium back in '07 or '08? left center, and went BEHIND that dumpster by the ambulance entrance's back wall? i remember watching the game on YES and the camera could barely even pick up where the ball landed because it went so far.

probably one of the longest shots in yankee stadium history.

Now this is an argument I'm cool with, even if I don't completely agree. I think the "hi mom" stuff is excusable, but understand why it rubs people the wrong way. Dude is one of the best players in this history of the game and was pissed, he handled it well aside from that. Agreed with everything else, obviously.

I can't wait for Giambi to be a manager. Dude is awesome. I think it's great he's going to be around baseball long term. He's a baseball guy. I love baseball guys.

Ask X-man, ask anyone around the Yankees. It's awesome to hear Arod talk about baseball. Dude is a legit fan of the game and I dig that. One of the smartest players you will ever hear talk about the game. I dig that.

I've been a fan of this team for almost 31 years. Just becasue I call it like it is and speak my mind makes me a horrible fan? All season long I called this team out and took a lot of shit about it. What happened? Everyone points to how bad this team was in the playoffs offensively...andthey were. What gets glossed over is how bad this team was from the all star break on. They lost a 10.5 game lead. I'm pretty sure they played only one or two games over .500 during that period. They struggled offensively all season. I frankly don't give a shit how manyHR's they had or runs they scored. You can win one game a week 22-7 and lose every other game that week and still have a positive run differential and hitting 6 HR's in a blowout means the same as winning 2-1 in the standings.

And then he stopped pumping his ass with steroids and he can no longer even catch up with 90 mph fast ball.

And your Giambi point....his signing was the day the Yankees changed their mindset. SO broke the mold of those 90's teams and their playoff success reflected that.

steroids aside, 2009 beast mode aside, .180 (or some odd) career post season average aside... i think THIS upcoming season will define what kind of player arod is. this is a whipping boy's breaking point, the first time he has been benched for as long as he has been benched and without a doubt, probably the lowest point in his career. VERY interested in seeing how he handles his offseason preparation, his yankee stadium reception for his first at bat of the 2013 season, and going forward. we can judge then.

yeah, the giambi signing lead to a sheffield, pavano, brown, randy johnson, etc. but how is that giambi's fault exactly? i thought we were witnessing a second coming of reggie jackson in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS. remember his two solo home runs? no late game posada dramatics, and surely no aaron boone dramatics without giambi in that game.

looking back on it, those teams weren't that "soft". after all those big spending names, you still had a jeter, mariano, jorge, mussina, cano, melky, bernie, arod, wang, matsui, and so on....

more proof that singling arod out when NO ONE performs is baffling.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/ ... story.html

To make a point, two personal stories. After his first couple years as a teenage major league shortstop in Seattle, I met him before a golf event in Fort Lauderdale. I had retired several years earlier, he was just beginning his career, and I sensed a great respect as he addressed me as Mr. Schmidt. It made me feel old, but at the same time, he impressed me with his approach.

Fast forward to the All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium in 2008 when he was one homer away from my 548 on the all-time home run chart. We were standing at third base, I was a little uncomfortable not knowing what to say, so I tried to make conversation by mentioning the home run list. He asked me if I was planning on being there to see him match me. It was sort of an aloof response to my question — to ask if I was planning on following him till he tied me was a little presumptuous and a blow to my ego. It came off as the exact opposite of our first meeting. This was 500 home runs and $200 million later in life.
