Or all about getting there and getting cold. HR based teams can not consistently win in the playoffs cut and dried.

Except that is not correct. I'm really done.

So I guess this thread should just be a big circle jerk where everyone talks about how great the team is and never bring up it's shortcomings.

I am fine with criticizing the Yankees. Their inability to develop pitchers has been completely unacceptable. The Arod contract is unacceptable, but was at a weird time. The Soriano contract was unacceptable. Along with the other things I mentioned the other day. On the field criticisms, their average with runners in scoring position for a while was unacceptable but I was confident they would get back to their mean. Their starting pitching performance at the beginning of the year was unacceptable but got back to their mean, or better aside from CC. And I'll agree about one player. I hate the kind of batter that Tex has become. All that is fine.

Talking shit about a team because they hit baseballs very hard is idiotic, especially when that team has a big lead in the division. I am really not getting into it with you again. I think you know nothing about baseball. That's all and I'm not going to entertain your nonsense and keep this crap going. Call me a dick or whatever you want. I'll enjoy a good team while you bitch about nonsense.

Actually the Soriano contract is a good one now since he's closing and doing it well, plus his spanish entrance song is very catchy.

It's proven. Shit this team can't win in the regular season. WHat are they 1-13 when not hitting a HR?

for what it's worth, regular season HR #s for the years the team has visited the WS in my lifetime:

    1996 - 162
    1998 - 207
    1999 - 193
    2000 - 205
    2001 - 203
    2003 - 230
    2009 - 244

this year they are on a pace for 257 (which we know they won't keep). i'd have them finish close to 2003/2009 totals.

all in all i'd say those above teams had good years.

Well, I think there is a difference between a good contract and him helping the team. He has certainly been huge for the Yankees this year and they definitely wouldn't be in first without him but I don't think that justifies giving a set up man $45 million.

Saw what, homie? They can't win in the regular season? Except they hit home runs and are in first by 6 games and 18 games above .500.

well it doesn't matter to me, the Yanks make money every time the toilet flushes, but his song is worth the price alone.

Ha, well true and agreed. You have been digging that song. Ever get anything from him about it?

Edit: And meant to mention to you, I dug the post about the first game you covered. I was the same way when when I got my gig with the Sixers and was standing 4 feet away from Lebron.

Thanks, it was something, I think I was so nervous that I didn't get a full appreciation for it until 2005 when I started becoming a regular at the place for the Ticker.

    No HR's = No win.

1-14. No problems here. Nothing to see. Move along.

17 games above .500. At least a 5 game lead in the division. And a Yankees fan gloating about a Yankees loss. Fuck off.

The team that played small ball tonight lost, the team that played AL ball won. And this idiot wants them to not hit home runs.

Wow. No one's gloating just amazed that with your vast baseball knowledge in relation to anyone else on these boards that you don't see a pattern or problem. But I guess again I'm an idiot and know less about baseball than your sister. I'll go fuck off now. Awesome statement BTW.

Small ball? This team couldn't play small ball if it tried right now. Fucking team can't even bunt and everyone with the exception of Jeter pulls the ball. Sure Granderson hit a sac fly the other way tonight but that's only becasue he was late on the pitch. Jeter also leads the team in steals with six I believe. Small ball. You make me laugh. I guess Yankee small ball is when they can't win the home run derby.

Cool, because to me your not wrong, but i think Cliffy's has a wider perspective than most of us. Which makes me think the truth somewhere in the middle. My hope is the pitching staff gets to a good groove come October! and thats everything!

Nobody's laughing at their losses. Remember in the Ranger's thread how I kept saying the team leaned too much on Lundquist and scoring was a real problem. Well what happened? Lundquist put a couple bad games together...the team couldn't score and boom...eliminated. That's what I see with this Yankee team. Too much dependance on the HR...couple of games in a row in the playoffs (against the best pitchers) with no HR's and boom...elimination. Just the way I see it and their regualr season numbers seem to indicate that.

Apologies to everyone else. I am really done getting fired up about this. I'll say my peace and not talk about this subject again.

The Yankees have the 4th highest batting average in the majors (Edit:I lied about this, it's 6th in the AL, I sorted wrong but they have the23rd most streikeouts so the contact thing still stands) and hit a lot of home runs which mean they hit the ball very hard. Hitting a baseball hard and for a good average is a very good combination, obviously. Even if the home runs decline (they will slightly), because they hit the ball so hard, when they make contact they are more likely to land for a hit. Because they have the 4th highest average in baseball, they are making more contact than other teams. So when they face better pitching in the playoffs, they will very likely hit for a higher average and for more power than the team they are facing regardless if they hit home runs or not. That is a good thing.

All about getting to the playoffs hot and getting good pitching like BinuralJam said.

And what's their batting average with runners in scoring position? Oh yeah...that will come back to the mean. That's right. Their statitistics that are horrible will be better but their overall team batting average that is high right now won't resort back to the mean. Only the bad will get good in your little Yankee world right. :lol But your done talking about it right?
