    Love this

Not going to sign him, but even if they did, no need to meet with him now only to drive up the cost.

I've been there. It is awesome!! I think it's closed now however (meaning closing at five). This village is so cool when it's not flooded with people.

Damn, great spot though. Haven't met a Ommegang beer I don't like. Yeah, it's awesome when it's not packed. Awesome town.

“At the end of the day, we’re ready to move on something if it makes sense,” Cashman said. “I’ll make a recommendation to ownership and they can bless it or they can tell me no, but right now we’re going to go to Dallas (for the Winter Meetings), we’re going to continue to engage – I’ve stayed engaged via email, text, phone, in person, it doesn’t matter – but we’re set in a lot of places, we really are. Could it be better? It’s my job to try to find ways to make it better.

“… Right now, if you’re asking me do I expect to do something in the next week? No. But I’ve had enough conversations where I could wind up doing something today. A lot of work has been done. A lot of conversations have been had. If somebody bends or adjusts, then I’m ready to make a recommendation for us to make a move.”

Were you really? That's pretty sweet. You were up on the roof and all? I read what Jennings had to say about it. Was it cool?

    God damn this is awesome

Last week when an American League executive told me that Mason Williams is the second-best prospect in the Yankees organization behind Montero, I forwarded that evaluation to some of the Yankee higher-ups. One of them told me it was a fair statement, while another told me Williams could actually be better than Montero because of his potential as a Gold Glove centerfielder.

When I asked another executive from the National League about Williams, he began throwing out names like Mickey Rivers, Kenny Lofton, and Jacoby Ellsbury (minus this year’s power stroke). Plate discipline is still an issue (he walked only 20 times in 298 plate appearances), but that’s not unusual for a kid this young.
  • I saw Mason Williams play one game last year in Brooklyn. Don't remember what he did in that game, but I definitely remember the name.

That's cool. Olney had him in a hypothetical package for Hamels recently and talked about how good he may be. Those are some lofty comparsions.

This is a really interesting read.

    http://riveraveblues.com/2011/12/report ... 014-60220/

In summary, it looks like the Yankees are going to significantly lower their budget for at least the 2014 season to get under the $189 million luxury tax. If for nothing else than to get down to a 17.5% penalty rather than what will be a 50% penalty. Kind of a scary thought, but it sounds like it's definitely the right move. If they continue under the $189, which I can't see them doing they will get further benefits, but if they are in the $189 million for one season their penalty will be lowered significantly so they can spend more moving forward. That's how I am taking this at least.
  • The good thing is that it doesn't matter what Cano and Damon think, Cashman wouldn't sign Ortiz at this point in his career. It'll be interesting to see what kind of shape he's in when camp opens now that there's offseason HGH testing.

HGH isn't like steroids and doesn't do that for you. The HGH testing is just a PR move. I am pretty sure we will rarely see a player test positive.

Well he's lucky the Yanks won't sign him. Otherwise the media and mlb will really go after him for steroid use.

I don't have a damn clue if this dude is ready for the big leagues, but if he is, it would surely make Swisher expendable.

wouldn't they use him in the minors first? I mean I don't know since I've never seen him.

I don't have a clue. I watched that 20 minute video a while back, looks like an absolute freak of an athlete and put up some insane numbers in Cuba, but who knows what that means. Would imagine he'll need some minor league time but I really don't know. If it's really going to take $60 million to get him, he better get up there pretty quickly.

No to Gio Gonzalez. I was hoping the Yanks would look into him at one point but not anymore. Walks way too many people. Someone will regret giving up too much for him.

not related to yanks ... but any of you new yorkers know how hard/easy it would be to get tickets for knicks/raptors over the holidays?
  • The Yankees are supposedly shopping AJ around. They're said to be willing to eat $8 million of his remaining contract, but that would still leave the receiving team on the hook for over $12 million per year for the next 2 years. If they really want to dump him, they'll have to at least double what they're willing to eat because nobody will pay $12 million for him.

Just came here to post this. Good luck with that  Although the $8 million is probably an inital figure. I would guess this means they have some ideas about how to add pitching though.
