thanks for the info on the tables... I am taking my time with the purchase, so all factors will be considered.... and there are an infinite number of thrift stores around Houston, so I think that's where I'm going to start my search...
My plan right now is to start the vinyl collection, and move into buying the tables in the next year or so. Myself and my girlfriend currently live in a 2 bedroom apartment and I don't have the space to create a "listening space", but we are going to start looking at houses in the next year, as I am sick of paying the man rent, so I want to be good and ready for when I start my man cave....
plus I need more wall space for posters  .....
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.
if you start to buy vinyl first your end up getting the turn table...space or no space..
but good luck..i will keep my eye out for you this side of the pond.
Here's one of my concubines waiting patiently for someone in the UK - you should get one of these for yourself Kev! I have to stop looking at them, since I'll only end up buying a second one! I fear there is a limited number and by the time mine breaks there will be none left to have!!
OK, fair enough. I want every member of this board to own one of these! I bought mine off this slightly crazy guy I know - my friend's dad - he kind of collects hi-fi like we collect records - he usually has about ten turntables in his attic at any one time!! His own kit tho is so good it almost wants to make you give up or end it all after listening. I reckon his current setup is worth £100k at least - he's got a dedicated power supply for it, and all sorts of other stuff which I can't really say on here - anyway, the end result is like nothing on earth - listening to an album round his is literally like having a massive drugs binge - you are just wasted by the sound! anyway - i tend to stay away these days hahaha - I think it might be time to go round there with vs. again soon tho! He's got similar spec cd but his turntable obliterates it every time. Anyway - I've owned may 10 turntables in my life - 3 or 4 of them came from him - but this one is the best I've had!!
I bought a national lottery scratch card the other day by the way - first time in years!!! eek

and lost..lol[/quote]
Yeah..... :( the trouble with these things is I have already earmarked and spent the £777,000 pounds in my head before I've finished scratching, and then I feel like I've been robbed!! I kind of have an addictive personality, so it's best if there are some things I just never do, and this lottery thing is one of them. Years ago I used to play computer games but when I got startled by the milkman rolling up in the morning I knew it was time to stop! (I thought it was 10pm!)
Ho hum - limited addictions - the way forward!!

Don't worry, that's what ebay was invented for.... buying all the stuff you wish you'd had as a child, and getting back all the cool stuff you've lost....! I wonder if they have the Han Solo sonic laser pistol on there - I'm still traumatised by my mum refusing to buy it for me one Xmas as a child.

   The $18,000 White Stripes Record!
Twelve years ago to the month, the White Stripes released their 2nd single ("Lafayette Blues") with a humble little performance at the Gold Dollar in Detroit. Due to a delay in printing the covers, Jack White and Dave Buick (head-honcho at Italy Records, the label releasing the single) hand-painted 15 unique covers for that evening. Each copy was sold for $6. For quite some time these hand-painted records have been the holy grail for White Stripes collectors. The first copy to sell went for $800 back in 2003 and it's been sky-rocketing ever since. Just recently I've had the pleasure of coordinating the sale of one of these singles for the stately sum of $18,000. Yes, you read that correctly...eighteen thousand United States dollars. This copy was painted by Mr. Buick and is pressed on especially swirly red/white vinyl.

This is what we like to see!! Someone who knows what he wants, and what he wants is VINYL!! You will remember getting all those in 20 years.
I'm finding my record collection is probably the most permanent part of my life over the past 23 years - it all still works, little of it is lost (some stolen.... by 'friends'!!), and I can remember the exact moment I bought about 75% of the items.
Quite a long term relationship!! Must be due an anniversary soon - I'll make one up... and celebrate by going out and buying some VINYL!!

Dude, you gotta report how Chronic 2001 sounds. I was thinking about this... If most hiphop is done digitally, would having it on vinyl matter? I so want the original Chronic, but what's the point? I gotta get Mojo as well. Heard it is stellar on vinyl. Maybe I'll use my Discover points and order me up that gift card and go all out.
Reminds me... I need to go get my Gaslight Anthem LP out of my car!!
Sounds good. Don't fully understand what you mean - but then this happens to me a lot round here. There's a lot I don't know.... I know about VINYL though. Am currently on side 3 of the aforementioned Astral Weeks Live. I am so bloody conservative these days that it is rare for me to turn over a record before I have listened to each side twice or even thrice in a row!! This is really sad - it's like sitting in a bath of hot water and refusing to budge. The other day I played the brilliant Ten Redux edition (Brendan O'Brian 2009), and I think I played side one four times in a row and then side two three times. It's hard not to just repeat the last great high you had. This is why vinyl is much better than smack. Anyway, the point is..... I want to see a duel!!

Yes, I see - I believe you are approaching this in the correct way - you have thrown down the gauntlet and now you are declaring your intentions to defend your lady's honour and expressing your love for Chan. There is no more you could do at this stage. It is down to your challenger to consider whether she should pick up this gauntlet.
