John’s roast pork  near Lowe’s on Columbus blvd - also sells cheese steaks- and they win the best of Philly on a yearly basis- - they also have roast pork hoagies - get it with the broccoli leaves
  • Angelo's Pizzeria on S. 9th street is the best in the city.
    Agreed!
  • I would skip the cheesesteaks and just head to Dinics each day for their sammich

This. I'd punch a kitten right now for one of those roast pork sandwiches

So, my sister, brother and I want to get a good cheesesteak before the show - what's better Pats or Genos?
There is an entire thread on Philly Cheesesteaks on AET. A lot of good information there.

for those staying in south jersey and want South Jersey options - your mind will be blown if you try one at Lilo's in Hainesport. u may have to order in person and wait as sometimes they don't answer the phones as its slammed
    Lilo's is REALLY GOOD.

    But, it's HUGE and can feed 2. I think it's 1 LB.?

    John's Roast Pork
A friend of mine took me there and I said to him: "A Roast Pork place has good cheesesteaks"? He said: "Trust me."
And, he was right. GREAT Cheesesteaks.

HAHA, as I'm right there with your family because I can eat a whole one too. But,  Damn, Lilo's is basically on the Border of Mt. Laurel>WOW!

First time I went I ordered 2,one for my mom who's 85, who somehow was able to eat half of one. I admit that I couldn't finish the rest after eating my whole one>LOL

John's Roast Pork is the GOAT but not open Sundays & Mondays, FYI. Since the 2nd show is on a Monday and all.

DiNic's in Reading Terminal has one of the best roast porks. Oh yeah, you should get roast pork, not a cheesesteak. It's more Philly than cheesesteaks. And also Reading Terminal is the greatest place on earth. And an easy subway ride from the arena.

Also second Angelo's. And take your sandwich (or pizza) about a block to the south and eat it in the DiBruno's outdoor table area, and you can get a beer in their bottle shop to go with it. (thanks to Cliffy for this suggestion)

Not a concert. Not the concert that I go out there and die for and attend every concert like it's my last. Not the concert. We talking about cheesesteaks, man.

Going to Chi this summer. (not for Pearl Jam) Where should I get one of those things? The couple times I've been in Chicago, I had the absolute best pizza, and did not have deep dish.

We should be talkin' 'bout Roast Pork Italiano sandwiches btw.

THIS 100%. Be aware... Cash only, nowhere to park, they sell out...you must call as soon as they open in the morning, STILL WORTH THE EFFORT.  Get a Pizza and Italian Hoagie too.  You won't think of a cheesesteak the same ever again.

As I'm sure you've heard before: Deep Dish is great once in a while, but it's a tourist thing.  Pequod's is the best pizza in Chicago imho, and that's probably closer to Detroit-style.  Otherwise, tavern-style cracker crust square cut is the way to go.

But I digress, for Italian Beef check out:
    • Al's Beef
    • Johnnie's Beef
    • Buona Beef
    • (Portillo's is fine too)
    • Don't skip the Giardiniera!

If you have time: stop by Bari Foods and get an Italian Sub Sandwich.

Had multiples of both. And Philly wins with the roast pork, broccoli rabe and long hots sandwich. The Italian beef is a good sandwich though and everyone should have it whan in Chi town. It is better than those godforsaken hot dogs with tomatoes.   =)

As a Philly resident, the correct answer is Dalessandros in Roxborough. It is worth the trip out there (about 20-30 minutes from Center City)
