There is Angelo's and then there is everywhere else left in the dust. There's really no competition. Go to Angelo's and get the cheesesteak with Cooper Sharp.
This is my plan, 100%.
Try their pizza too. And if he happens to have any of his cutlet sandwiches on the menu that day, get one, it'll change your life.
Thanks! I'm a sucker for a good chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, and roasted red pepper sandwich.

No problem. He doesn't have them everyday because the shop's always so busy, but will once in a while he will. Check his insta for pics @angelos_pizzeria_south_Philly
Who has the best "gluten free" cheesesteak in Philly?
you are probably SOL lol but in South Jersey, there's a hidden gem that has some GF stuff. Maybe you can call them and ask them to do it in a GF wrap: https://peppinosmarlton.com/
Every time I visit Philly (usually for PJ- 2009, 2012, 2013, 2016) I get a cheesesteak but with chicken. Each and every time I am criticized and rightfully so lol
Unfortunately per website looks like they're closed for vacation around the dates of the Pearl Jam shows so might need to find another place.
Regardless, any other time when they're open John's makes amazing sandwiches and worth checking out. Not far from the stadium complex. Won a number of "best of" awards over the last 20 years. 3rd generation family owned and operated. Cheesesteaks all made to order (I go seeded role, sharp provolone, fried onions; anything with broccoli rabe or long hot peppers good too). They even won a James Beard award! Sandwiches are huge. Might even be worth splitting with a friend. Or better yet split a cheesesteak and a roast pork sandwich and get the best of both worlds. Owner John Bucci a good guy. Was there a few months ago with my son for lunch and we had the privilege of sitting at his "chef's table." So passionate about his restaurant.

A chicken cheesesteak. I think I had one once upon a time. Very meh.
Let's talk about this ridiculous idea that fake plastic cheez (cheese whiz) is the "traditional" topping for a cheesesteak. My parents had a hoagie shop in the early 70s and the cheesesteak cheese options at the time were American and Provolone. Fake Plastic Cheez (yes very much a pun on a Radiohead song) IS NOT the traditional "cheese" for a cheesesteak. Stop listening to millennial and gen z morons telling you this nonsense.
Should be open on Saturday - best cheese combo in the city (it's a secret) - just order a cheesesteak - Mama's Pizzeria in Bala Cynwyd. (no they don't sell pizza anymore). And there's no shrinkflation going on here folks! https://www.mamaspizzeriacheesesteaks.com/

I fully agree with the Mama's endorsement. Might be the best Philly 'burbs cheesesteak. For shows at the Mann that's the best spot to hit before. Their cheese blend really good. The cheesesteaks maybe a little cheesier than some of the others.
Johnny's in Bryn Mawr another really good suburban option. Might be my favorite rolls of anywhere.

Walk it down to DiBruno's outdoor seating area - 2 blocks south. Actually grab a beer inside their bottleshop and drink it wit your sandwich! I'm fucking jealous as fuck.

I used to get chicken cheesesteaks a long time ago but that was like about 25 years ago and the place near me that made them at the time I thought were really good. They unfortunately went downhill about 10 years ago or so.
