Both are gargbage, and pretty much taste the same. Slight edge to Geno's. But just send half your party to Pat's, half to Geno's. Split the sandwhiches up, do a taste test.
If you are near the stadiums, Talk of the Town on Broad Street (by Packer) is within walking distance and is an unknown gem of a place... I prefer flipped not chopped (Steve's Prince of Steaks style) and ToTT is pretty good.
So, my sister, brother and I want to get a good cheesesteak before the show - what's better Pats or Genos?
My opinion???
Going to Geno's or Pat's, is equivalent to visiting Chicago, and going to Domino's or Papa John's for Pizza.....
Geno's and Pat's are both GARBAGE!!!!!
I totally agree!
Sad thing is.....
As a tourist in Philly....
You really dont know any better....right???
All you have ever heard about was Geno's and Pat's.....So that is where you go when you get a cheesesteak for the first time....
Then you realize that you just spent $10-$15 on the worst fucking sandwich you have ever eaten....
Take me piece by piece..... Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
for those staying in south jersey and want South Jersey options - your mind will be blown if you try one at Lilo's in Hainesport. u may have to order in person and wait as sometimes they don't answer the phones as its slammed
1000% agree on John's Roast Pork. My favorite sandwich in the city. Their roast pork sandwich really good too. Sharp provolone w/ fried onions. They use really nice seeded roles. Better quality meat than other touristy places. Each bite ends up being the perfect mix of meat, cheese, bread, onions. John Bucci the owner actually won a James Beard award for his sandwiches. I don't think he works the grill as much anymore, but when he's on he's a maestro working the grill. Won a bunch of other "best cheesesteak" competitions as well. A little trickier to get to since not on a subway line. Its a little luncheonette across from a Lowe's. Their hours might be a little more limited than some of the other places. Not sure if they're doing order ahead for pickup so check the website for details/times before going.

If you're looking for a delicious onion-filled steak go with Pat's.
Definitely worth a 5-minute walk:
