See, this is where you fail with me and your opinion becomes stupid.. 94 to 96'

Vitalogy and No Code are the albums I listen to the least.

Who cares what popular music is liking. Led Zeppelin never had a number one hit. Most classic rock bands weren't appreciated by the general public until years later.

I like the new music, and thats all that matters.

Besides.. Force of Nature and Amongst the Waves will be instant classics.

You are a stubborn fool to think these clips don't have potential..

holy shit force of nature sounds like a 1988 WWF wrestler ring entrance music!!

In no way is it possible for Pearl Jam to make a new album that would really stand the test of time. They are, and always will be a product of the nineties. I mean look at it seriously: they haven't made a true classic rock song since 90s. If you ask anyone out there on the streets, they won't know anything post Jeremy.

This band has had its heyday and general public has forgotten about Pearl Jam already. That's the fact. They are not The Who of the modern age or any other band. But I won't say they don't make decent songs, yes they do, but everything reflects to their past. They are a band from the past and will always be remembered as a grunge band from the 90s.

I always hoped that they would progress like REM has. I guess the best albums by REM were made after they had been together for over 10 years. That didn't happen with PJ.

BUT I still like the band, I most likely won't by the new album but will go to see them if they play live somewhere near me. And I already had the greatest time with this band when they were at their peak: 1994-1996. ;)

    Anything post Jeremy, let's see:

    Daughter
    Better Man
    DTE

Pearl Jam isn't about the man on the street.

Like TV shows musical taste changes when the media wants it to change.

Us in the PJ community are happy they haven't been the success like U2 (REM is a horrible example).

They are a great live band, with a clear message, and a band that loves it's fans because the fans love them.

So take Ten and play it over and over then head off to a Journey show. Us real fans will soak up the beauty that is pearl jam.
  • Oh I forgot to add, Mr. O'Brien is producing his 1st PJ record since Yield.

    Great things are coming.

I think the guy has a point, not that theyre outdatet, but I wonder how many new fans they get. Aren't the people attending shows mostly old fans? And how many 15 year olds will go buy the new record in the way the probably would have in the 90s?

But that post Jeremy bs was just stupid...Ten is their least interesting record nowadays and theyve done so so much great music after Ten, and also after the 90s!!

But it in the end, it doesnt really matter if theyre outdatet or not, the still kick ass and have such a positive affect on my life!!

Well, they really aren't too relevant with the younger crowd anymore. In the past 4 years of High School, not one person has known who they are, or if they didn't, only knew Even Flow. They're a great band, but they won't be changing the music scene ever again.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!

Maybe in the sense of studio work, they cant crack the music buying masses.

However, look at the crap that does.

Its tough to make a good rock hit on the same lines of Smells Like Teen Spirit, Jeremy, Alive, Man In the Box these days. Rock stations are going out of business, I couldnt even tell you where to find music videos on TV, and young people in large numbers arent into good music where you actually play instruments and can sing live. Its a far different industry with downloads, portable music, etc. the early 90's might as well be ancient history.

Pearl Jam is being redefined as a live act. I believe they are making a lot of new loyal fans through their live act. New fans attend a PJ show because they miss good music and maybe they can hear some of the 90's hits. They walk away impressed and discovering that there have been albums after the 2 V's and they have a ton of Gems. The easy access to live bootlegs enhance the whole experience... PJ moves on with new fans created after every show.

I cant think of any way Pearl Jam can create a hit along the same lines of Jeremy and Alive. If its the most awesome sounding, most perfect track ever, I still believe its impossible in the current music industry conditions.
  • the OP is exactly right. PJ isn't the modern era The Who. They are to the 90's what Whitesnake and Poison were to the 80's. Ask anybody born after 1985 or so, they probably don't even know PJ as well as they know poison. If only Ed would get a reality show like Bret Michaels.

You see, I dont agree with the OP either, but insulting him is definitely not the way to express your opinion on the subject. IMHO

I would say Pearl Jam is just a TAD ahead of Whitesnake and Poison on the count that they still tour and release albums.

I believe it takes "time" for an album to stand to the test of time. Ten has been the only one so far, we dont know how well the other albums will stand in the next few years coming.

Its an unfair assumption if you ask me.

correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Last Kiss the band's first and only single to hit #1? I believe that was released post 90's grunge era. I could go on with other examples of how PJ is the greatest living band in music today like how their concerts are incredible, sold out in minutes, and how they're one of the biggest touring bands alive at the moment but I won't bore the OP who obviously is just trolling and trying to incite some drama here.
