It's a shame we gave this thread so much "airtime". I fear it's going exactly the way the op intended, and he/she is laughing at us. Makes me irritated.

I'm sorry I clicked on this guy's post. He is so dead wrong.
I went back and looked at some of his earlier posts to see what his deal is....
He thinks Strangest Tribe is their best song ever, and he thinks No Code is their worst album.
Do you respect those opinions?
90 shows and counting...some of my favs: Randall's Island night 2, Milwaukee '95 night 2, Hawaii '06, St Johns '05, PJ20!

I hope your not tapping his phones or following him around . If so I think Dick Chaney is on the site
We all have our own opinions here & should be able to express them, we are in the USA still :?
Seems that needlessly it's getting harder, to find an approach and a way to live
Constant Recoil..Sometimes life, Don't leave you alone

What?!
They are a 90's band?
I never knew this....or is somebody pulling my leg?
I always thought Binaural was their debut album? :?
Are you kidding??
No.
I always thought Jeremy and Alive were on Riot Act :?
Well then...may i suggest you check out the music section of the website!

This really wasn't my intention. Just wanted to raise a critical discussion about the band's situation. Maybe with a startling subject ...And what do I get?

People calling me stupid & someone seriously telling that one persons opinions are worse than others...?
Funny thing is I also tried to start a thread where folks could share some extra PJ stuff for free (offered a live CD myself) and what did we get? People mailing how they wanna wait for better stuff...and the thread just disappeared. I mean...c'mon?
I'm sorry if I have offended someone, that wasn't the case...
ps. And EVERYONE ignored the fact that I think they still make decent music and I would like to go see them. And I still think the way I wrote. Basically they make the same record again and again. No progression etc.

I think the original poster is wrong when he says Pearl Jam is "outdated" but I think I know what he's trying to get at. They're definitely more "classic rock" than "mainstream" at point. Sort of like Iron Maiden. When a new Maiden album comes out, their hardcore fans are super-excited. Joe Metal-head will check it out. But everyone else in the world forgot they were still around.

The problem is its hard to have a discussion with someone when their positions are so opposite of my own feelings. I'm not trying to insult you, I just can't understand what it is you are trying to say. And if you really expected some polite discussions, you A) clearly aren't familiar with this forum didn't use the proper tact when introducing your stance.
People who are on the fan message board, spending their Saturday and now Sunday reading and talking about their favorite band, are not going to respond politely to someone who basically thinks they stopped being good in 1996. What did you expect?
mainstream is nothing to strive for nowadays..............
Well it seems like something PJ is striving for lately. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But you wouldn't see music videos, rock band games, or songs being played on Sportscenter during the Binarual/Riot Act years.
OP I understand that Pearl Jam aren't as popular as they were in the 90s but I wouldn't say they are outdated. To me record sales do not mean good or bad, especially considering the artists at the top of the charts today. What I'm wondering is how you can make these assertions and say that you enjoyed your time with the band the best in 94-96 when you said in another thread that you hadn't seen them until 2000. I feel like the thread leads us to believe that you were some hardcore fan that went to their shows yet you didn't even go to one until 4 years after you say their heyday was.

Ill be honest with you... thats my first preview of those 2... and they sound TERRIBLE :(
hopefully thats not the finished mix or theres some redeeming quality not in the clips
looks like backspacer might be as front-loaded as their past 2 albums...
back to the OP's point... in some ways id agree... atleast as far as public perception... but at their best PJ is still capable of writing classic songs... theyre just fewer and further between these days - as i would expect for a band their age

so far I like the clips, but most of the longer clips are pieced together from 2 different sources, so its hard to know if that's how the songs go or if there is something in between the ties it together... needless to say these 2 weeks are going to be torture! LOL

I couldn't name you anything REM have done after 'Monster' and most people only got that because of 'Everybody Hurts' and the previous album being so big. Does that make them irrelevant now?
BTW, don't you have to be a 10C member to post here now? If so, have you paid 20 dollars to become a Pearl Jam fan club member to come on here and say they have been irrelevant for over a decade and you won't buy the new stuff? ..... more money than sense?

ok. may I suggest these if you're looking for something good to read:
Noun 1. ass-kisser - a person who tries to please someone in order to gain a personal advantage
crawler, sycophant, toady, lackey

adulator, flatterer - a person who uses flattery
goody-goody - a person who behaves extremely well in order to please a superior

WOW!!! to each his own but those clips have made me more excited than anything in 10 years. I like all the albums in different ways but those songs seem to have a chance to really stand out. I like everything I'm hearing from Backspacer. It seems they are riding the momentum they picked up from the Avocado.

Here's a grand idea... Love a band because YOU love them!!!
Not because they have 5 top 20 hits off every album... All their albums have gone platinum... Tickets are impossible to get... They are everywhere promoting themselves... The lead singer is hot...
Why don't we all come up with our own ideas instead of listening to the greater half of the population... Having fame or being famous doesn't exist without other's minds.
I was just talking to someone last night who said his favorite Pearl Jam song was Parachutes. This guy wasnt a die hard fan either. I guess a song that came out in 2006 is outdated.

I completely agree, let's say it was true that they are no longer relevant and that 99% of the music listening population doesn't know anything past Jeremy, would it really change how much I love their music? Not really.
I work with people that dont care much for them and the only thing they can quote for me is the 1992 unplugged :? and think I'm stuck in the 90's that's ok though

Show me a band that has such captivating and socially-questioning lyrics, with the ability to make you breakdown into tears with 20,000 other people, with members that want to do what they love and know but never wanted the fame, that still has the ability to dish out amazing live shows, that actually care about and respect their fan-base... Then maybe I could back them as well but I have yet to find one that could have as big of an impact on my life.
