I actually like the song so I can't complain. It's a pop song but doubtful that it's bubble gum pop.
I'm just flying around the other side of the world to say I love you

I love you forever and forever :)

How else is the band supposed to entice the teen generation? They've got to compete with the Jonas Bros!!

*shudder* please don't say that *shudder*

and i was all up in those Target threads too...ya know this!

but i'll wait till i spend time with the new album before making any rash comments about the album...Self titled was a great album even if i didn't like Parachutes or big wave or comeback...so maybe fixer will be like them..one of the ones i skip.

no matter what ppl think of the fixer I can't believe anyone thinks PJ care about the jonas brothers let alone anyone popular with the teen generation :D Please! I did shudder when I saw that!

No one cares when you go to the bathroom. Its amazing that some people can get so bent outa shape over one song. We know Eddie is still writing great lyrics..i.e. Into the Wild so whats the big deal if there is a song here or there that isnt incredibly deep and introspective?

jeanwah i've always respected your opinion and can understand why you feel a bit of disillusion with the perceived direction the might might be taking but tell me you didn't just compare pearl jam to the jonas brothers?

    i mean i know you're pissed but c'mon
No, no. I'm not comparing the two! (god, NO!) I'm saying that they'd be competing for their target audience of the younger generation who also happens to listen to Jonas Bros. Jonas would be their competition if they're really trying to reach out to the teen crowd. That's all. :geek:

This just in... soulsinging will be going to the bathroom a few times during the opening set, but not for the 'piss break' everyone around here loves so much.

Why is everyone so concerned about The Fixer being a pop song? Didn't this already happen with Last Kiss, regardless of it being a non-album cover song? I'd rather have The Fixer be the song that most people not into PJ recongnize rather than Last Kiss. Both are great songs IMO.

Bubblegum pop, (bubblegum rock, bubblegum music) is a genre of popular music and/or rock and roll. As in the famous quote about pornography, it is difficult to define, but most people know it when they see (hear) it.

Some of the defining characteristics of bubblegum songwriting include catchy or hummable melodies, simplistic three-chord structures, repetitive riffs or "hooks," and lyrical subject matter geared toward teenagers at its most mature; or even, at its most simplistic, small children only one step removed from nursery rhymes.

i figured you weren't but after today you never know ;)

is it really wrong for the band to grow and expand their audience? i would rather the younger generation to get hooked on pearl jam than waste their teen years listening to the shite on pop radio now

so if the fixer does this and it can reverse the years of crappy music that is being fed to today's youth, i'm ok with that :)

i'm always shocked when everybody doesn't love this band ;):D

hahahahahahahahaha, i cant stop from laughing. you're gonna make me crash while i drive to work. i don't mind the target deal its cool or ticketmaster prices but to me this song sounds like there competing with the jonas bros or nickleback.

the only album I totally fell in love with immediately was YIELD

I like 99.95% of Pearl Jam songs, too..............

I agree except it was Vs & Yield for me.

it's funny.. i got hooked on Vs. in 1997.. (yup, late bloomer).. from the 1st second of the 1st song.. i nearly wore that cd out and went about picking up the rest..

No Code was a struggle to wrap my head around.

Yield was love at first listen all over again.

Vitalogy took no time at all.

Ten took some time.. didn't feel the same connection as I did to VS, Vitalogy & Yield..

Binaural was fairly quick to get into.

Riot Act was maybe a touch longer than Binaural

    Avocado was 1/2 fast & 1/2 slow..

Overall No Code & Ten took me the longest to get into..
life is the study of dyin'
and how to do it right

aka, the entire Beatles catalogue prior to Rubber Soul. And what's so awful about that? They had a lot of damn good songs in that period. And this song is in the same vein.

I agree, almost everything the Beatles put out was very good. But the entire catalogue prior to Rubber Soul was, indeed, considered bubblegum pop.

I doubt that will happen, but if it can cut into the DMB fanbase and bring some of these fans over:

    370

    I'd be happy with that.

sorry but at this stage in their careers i was expecting more forward progression..more No Code type..progressive, groundbreaking deep shit...

Yeah, that's not gonna happen anymore
can't wait to see what the rest of the album has to offer.

The rest of the album offers "The End" which is just another subpar coffeehouse song.

So far, only Got Some tickles my nausea...
I have no patience for bad music and stupid people...
