I remember when the Stones did “Bridges to Babylon” that I thought they were ancient back then. They were all around 54.

The Chili Peppers guys are about five years older than them and I just see them as a bunch of dudes rocking out.

    Perspective with time lol

It’s a lot to take in on first listen. Plus with johns return, it’s hard to not have sky high expectations. With repeated listens, this thing gets better and better.

agreed....I think I wanted to hear heavier guitar but yeah...totally into this. Honestly I thought the Getaway was one of their best so this album will probably define my summer

It doesn’t touch the Getaway imo. Another listen in and I like it a lot, but it’s pretty middle of the road as far as their catalogue goes. But even the worst of RHCP is still pretty good, so there’s that.

I really liked the Getaway, thought it was really underrated. I love John's work but haven't found much in the new album to love yet. I'll stick with it.

Got my Purple/Gold vinyl over the weekend. The single sleeve is a mess. It is too large for the vinyl, its like the size of a closed gatefold but since there is no fold, the pocket is too large so the shrink and the crap packing crushed the empty space between the vinyl and the end of the sleeve.

I have only listened to the purple so far, but side 2 had a slight warp and the first track on each side had some distortion, as well as between some tracks. This is after a good wet clean too. The sound is superb, but pressing is average. Will update after Gold

honestly, I love this record because of one simple thing: it makes me fuckin' happy. Every time I put it on. I haven't had a record do that, of any band, since probably Stadium Arcadium. It makes me want to dance. it makes me want to play bass. it makes me want to sing.

Exactly. It’s always been a “vibe” thing with the chilis. I love this LP.

Giving the records from this deluxe gatefold edition a spin (same runouts as the regular version I bought while waiting). The Lakers copy will just stay sealed, I guess.

They’ve been doing the same for me since I first heard Blackeyed Blonde back in the late 80s.  Amazes me they can produce solid album after solid album and never “mail” it in…. Pure heart and soul

Great record. Sound is top notch, it has been alluded to that it is AAA. If not the mastering really sounds exceptional. Pressing is average, have a slight dish warp with mine. Don't understand why they didn't just make this a gatefold, I hate the two records in one slip cover concept. I really like this new record, to me you can really hear the Frusciante influence back.

I listened to this one time through and it didn't do much for me. But I really haven't been into the Chili Peppers since BSSM. I liked quite a few songs on Californication and Stadium Arcadium but none of their post BSSM releases compares to the funk of their earlier work.

Nice to see a band commit to analog and put out a great sounding record. Wonder if PJ will ever do anything like that again?

The ending to Veronica sounds very similar to the Beatles I Want You (she's so heavy).
