Anyone who saw the COVID vaccines as not being effective are absolute idiots. It preventing death or very serious illness IS the whole point of it.

It's totally not over - people are still getting COVID. Plus, I've still got long COVID, over 4 years after I had a mild case. But I'm not dead, and neither are my old parents (and for sure my dad at least would be if he hadn't been vaccinated).

my dad had a heart attack shortly after he got covid. no way to know for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were linked.

I do, and I stand by it. I would also support children being removed from parents and given vaccines (and given back after). So yeah, my views on vaccines are extreme, but for good reasons. They get more extreme kind of as a mirror put up to anti-vaxxers getting more extreme.
"extreme views" followed by "good reasons" are pretty contradictory. extreme views generally don't stem from good reasons.

I think this is literally the only time it's got good reason, because it's the only there where the actions of very, very few could very literally hurt and kill many, many other people. I would never say the same kinds of things about anything else, because such measures aren't called for in any other circumstance. The only reason my view seems extreme is because it would force people to do something they don't want to do.... but if that will prevent the death of many, many people, why isn't that reasonable? I think it is.
because you are potentially forcing a death sentence or life long injury sentence on others against their will. kinda the same thing you're accusing them of.

IDK, I wouldn't force anyone to get vaccinated, but the randomness of averse effects from vaccines are no different than the randomness of dying from the disease and in the case of covid, your odds of dying from Covid (at least in the first year) were higher than a bad reaction to the vaccine. So I get the argument.

But my general stance is vaccines are a net benefit for society and someone who thinks otherwise is a dope.

No it isn't, because of the numbers. My viewpoint is rational and logical, not emotional.

    Unlikely.

I wasn't saying they were equal in numbers, they are the same in viewpoint/consequence. I never said it was emotional. But I don't find it logical.

slightly diminished, but fine. Not sure why you'd say unlikely. COVID is known to cause heart issues.

Again, just because of the numbers. Heart disease is the leading cause of death, while the rate of serious health issues caused by covid vax is minuscule. It is literally unlikely.

But those numbers make ALL the difference, and that is necessarily based on logic.

A new variant of the virus that causes COVID is spreading in the U.S. The “Cicada” variant, officially known as BA.3.2, was first detected in South Africa in November 2024. But infection rates in the U.S. have been slowly rising since last fall, according to a recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report.

Cicada is notable because it has a highly mutated genetic sequence that some experts fear could enable it to evade some of our immunity from vaccination or a past COVID infection. http://spklr.io/6004EycFK

Just done a COVID test on my daughter as I read this. Negative. I haven't done one in ages . Takes me back to being part of a national testing survey during the peak. We had someone come to the door pass us tests and take blood. Every month I think.

Side note. Absolutely LOVE the FluAB/Covid tests. Love that they exist. Plus it makes me feel like a chemist or something.

We've had more Flu +'s (5) in our house in the past year than Covid +'s (2) which is wild (6 people in our house). Before Covid I think we had maybe 1 positive flu test in the previous decade.

I love them now that you don't have to stab your brain with the swab! I got the newest tests and was SO pleased it had been updated so you only have to go up your nose a tiny bit (of course the older ones had expired - everyone check your kits, and go get them replaced at the pharmacy if expired!... Does the US hand out free tests??).
