I really feel that the end of their last show of the last tour made it more than obvious that they knew at that point. When exactly they knew before then is completely irrelevant IMO. I also think that the announcement in response to Matt's parting message made it totally clear that the band is continuing without Matt. After that, i just guess that they are currently considering who to replace Matt with. I don't think it's feasible that any new drummer would have the same kind of role that Matt did in terms of the business of the band, but I feel confident that whoever they choose would be someone they expect or hope to contribute creatively, IF they intend on making any more albums (but of course that person wouldn't hold the same stakes business-wise/legally).. If they don't intend on making any new albums (which would surprise me), then meh, they would just need a good drummer for their shows, and they have a LOT of great options there either way, old or new. I hope it's someone younger than any of the old drummers. Someone 10 years younger would be cool. Old enough to live with the band, younger enough to have the energy needed.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. But what do i know. Just my outsider fan opinion.Whether you realize time waits for no one or like to hang with mothers little helper, what the stones continue to accomplish is astounding, and certainly not the norm for the human experience let alone active touring artists.0 -

JimmyV said:I'd honestly be surprised to learn Pearl Jam was actively looking for a new drummer right now. All indications were they planned to take a break after the tour. My bet is they are doing just that.
The drummer issue will be handled down the road when the foursome comes back together. They may not even know at this point how they plan to proceed with the search, nevermind who they will target.jesus greets me looks just like me ....0 -

I feel like Eddie says stuff like that all the time, randomly. In my opinion, there is zero reason for the band to call it quits and as many have said, they won't. They recently recorded easily their best record since Avocado and it was recorded quickly. The band is at the height of their abilities/talents and hell, I think Eddie sings better now than he has most of his career. They have shortened the tours and shows and record at their leisure. It's been the perfect formula. I think Cameron simply wanted to slow down a bit and he wants the band to have someone who can be all in now. I think it's that simple.0

People have been reading into such comments for years, always afraid they are about to quit after every tour, haha.If they knew this was the end of something important, it’s disappointing, yes they owe us nothing, that perhaps playing a few more shows in those regions where tickets are especially tough to get, with a hint that long time fans…”will really want to catch one of these shows.”
Instead, it seemed like a part one of two run of Dark Matter wrap up tour, based on how few 2025 shows were announced.0 -
My humble .02 — It’s just puzzling that he wasn’t sent off in more of a grand fashion…A drummer for 27 years, in one of the most influential and lasting bands of our time… It’s just kinda weird to me that they didn’t send him off during this last tour…
But I have to assume this is how *HE wanted to do it.
Love you, MFC. Miss you already.
Fingers crossed they give us another album and tour (or more) before hanging it up…Post edited by bigbiggzy on0 -

Fingers crossed they give us another album and tour (or more) before hanging it up…Not to mention the chaos that would have ensued had people known in advance… the ticket and merch scene is desperate enough as it is, I can only imagine how much worse it would have been if people knew it was the last go around w/ MC.0 -

Maybe it's possible that the band really doesn't know for sure yet what their own future is? Even if they knew Matt was leaving for the entire last leg of the tour, relatively speaking it still hasn't been a lot of time for the rest of the band to make decisions about their future. I have to believe that upon receiving the news of Matt's decision, the rest of the band wasn't immediately ready to decide (and agree) on what the future holds. Obviously none of us know exactly what's going on, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if the remaining members are still trying to figure out what's next.0

And regarding the chaos you mentioned… You’re right. I thought about that as well…
Part of me still thinks “saying goodbye” would’ve warranted some of the chaos. But it def would’ve been a cluster. No question.
I’m sure this was tough for all of them… Especially for Matt. There was no easy way to do any of this, I’m sure…
I suppose when you really think about it…they did the best they could. What a ride, man. I love this band so much - which will always include MFC.Post edited by bigbiggzy on0 -
