I recall Eddie saying he thought the band had "1 or 2 albums" still left in them just after the release of Dark Matter. Now THAT put the fear of God in me that this band actually has an expiration date. I also recall Eddie saying in PJ20 that the drummer was the most vital member of a band that replacing them is like a "heart transplant." With Matt leaving, who knows what that could do with the song writing process going forward. Just enjoy everything they have given us so far and the future will always be icing on the cake.Post edited by FrankY59 on0

I think most (myself included) took that as the vague kind of "1 or 2", just meaning more. He wasn't speaking literally I don't think, especially not with the tone he said it in. But at their age, any new album could be their last, since any of the core 4 could kick the bucket or just decide he can't stand it anymore. Matt leaving won't hurt their music-making abilities. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -

They knew. And probably have someone lined up. But it will be some time before we see them back on stage as a group.0

In case people thought it would happen, Matt isn’t joining FF.
(FF and NIN got a drummer del made before the trade deadline)0 -
Very long-time PJ fan here. Been in the fan club since 1992. PJ created some great music with MC. I may be in the minority here, but he is my least "favorite" drummer in PJ. I preferred the music they made with all of the others. My favorite was Dave A. Point being, PJ thrived before MC and they can thrive after MC. The sum of PJ has always been greater than the parts, as can be said for all legendary bands, from Zeppelin to the Stones to the Beatles.0

Was thinking about that preclude Josh from joining Pearl Jam more than Matt joining Foos ha. Would have been my second pick and first among those who haven't been PJ's drummer already.Stars are suns to other people.

Well... With Josh Freese now joining NIN and llan Rubin joining the Foos - I guess that rules out Freese taking the helm with PJ... At least for the time being.
So much drummer drama! Clearly the departure of Hawkins has disrupted the drummerverse and we're in some kind rebalancing stage lolRandall's Island, NY 9/29/1996, Randall's Island, NY 6/8/1997 (Ed and Mike), Jones Beach, NY 8/23/2000, Los Angeles, CA 7/10/2006, Hartford, CT 6/27/2008, Los Angeles, CA 10/6/2009, San Diego, CA 11/21/2013, Los Angeles, CA 11/24/2013, MSG, NY 5/1/2016, Seattle, WA 8/10/2018, Los Angeles, CA 5/6/2022, Los Angeles, CA 5/7/2022, Camden, NJ 9/14/2022, St Paul 8/31/2023, St Paul 9/2/2023, Las Vegas 5/18/24, MSG NY 9/3/24, Philadelphia PA 9/9/24, Ohana CA 9/27/24, Atlanta, GA 4/29/25, Pittsburgh, PA 5/16/25, Pittsburgh, PA 5/18/250 -
