I can't say I have looked for slop but I don't recall much of it. They definitely pushed songs through at insane tempos sometimes but that doesn't always mean sloppy.

I kind of got the feeling that they were focusing on quality since they reduced set times a few years back. Songs are played at recorded tempo and we get more repeats night to night.

I can’t believe news of Matt’s departure never leaked.
There was no chatter on here, or anywhere, that I saw. Not suggesting I’m the most diligent consumer of PJ info, but lots of people love to share rumors before they’re officially announced, and there wasn’t a peep

I wonder if the gap after tour to announcement was for Matt to confirm he really did want to leave and not change his mind.

But equally, I can see how tour dates leak if contacts at venues pass on rumours much harder in a small close knit group like the band deciding something major

Someone said in one of these threads that there were rumors in Nashville that someone in the band was leaving but that person never put much thought into it as it seemed quite unbelievable at that point.

That was this month... IIRC, I think someone might have said as much in the forum DURING the tour, but I can't recall which thread... or maybe I'm just imagining it.

Having experienced broken ribs, I can vouch for this.

After listening to Dark Matter, a lot of the lyrics are about fractured relationships, breaking up and wonder if they are about Matt? Wreckage, Scared of Fear, Setting Sun, upper hand, got to give. Makes sense if Matt made the decision before they started recording DM.

Agree. They could bring someone in but it would never be the same.

Hmmmmmm. I for one have always taken DM as a concept album. Interesting.

I don’t see it personally. You’d write songs about the guy after he’d left the band not while he was still in the band. But that’s just my two cents.

I was at the gate at DFW on the way to Nashville after a day of delays when I got the rumor.  I was talking with another PJ fan when he asked me if I had heard the rumor.  He then grabbed a PJ fan couple from San Diego and they told me what they told him.  I didn't know these people and they were giving info that I just couldn't fully square in my head.  A band member was leaving the band after Pittsburg.  I, of course, asked who.  They paused and then said Mike.  I was stunned and in shock and went back to conversing with the other PJ fan and we agreed that the couple was just talking shit.
I thought about posting, but why?  I had no real knowledge of anything and if Mike were leaving it was too much to really imagine.

Not trying to cause or be anything, but I know that they knew for a while that Matt was leaving.

I guess I'm an insider when random people tell me crazy shit at an airport because I'm wearing a PJ t-shirt.

It's a wild story man. I believe you, and I also think it was honorable of you to not take it to the forum with limited info back then.
I've met other PJ fans with way too much impulse to spread news at the expense of others.
