He answered the question more like John Tortarella, which even in hockey, while entertaining, isn't very professional. He's supposed to answer the question and move on. Not make it personal. I'm no Barton fan, but in his position he's supposed to take the high road. Either way, I agree with your "another rich guy vying for office" concern.

I don't know a lot about Carney... but what I do know A: doesn't surprise me and B: doesn't give me a lot of hope for a good leader.
That said, with regards to this questioning by journalists... I'm not sure I would consider his comments to be Trumpian thus far. He seemed frustrated and I somewhat understand that. Rosemary basically (as a journalist) drops her own personal flavour by saying that she finds it hard to believe there are no conflicts of interest with his position in government now and his positions in the private sector.
Herein lies the issues with me though... I just don't see how any person can be placed at a high level of government and not be considered to be in some sort of conflict of interest with any aspect of one's personal or past professional life. Sometimes there is certainly more smoke than others... but I think the focus moving forward should be looking at how to hold those people more accountable if and when they use that power to influence over possible personal conflicts of interest (Ahem, Trudeau.)
That said... no matter how the election plays out, I'm happy Pierre at least has more competition moving forward... but like most politicians... having another rich dude trying for office never seems to play out well. I was stoked that Trudeau was leaving and while I have hopes for Carney... even though I may be judging him unfairly... by simply having another wealthy dude vying for office.... leaves me weary once again.
Well said, it’s unfortunate no federal politician will ever give real teeth to the ethics legislation. I was glad when I learned that here in Ontario ethics investigations have the potential to lead to the seat being vacated and a byelection called.

That's the way it should be. For a long time and seemingly with no end in sight... we've been backwards. Politicians and cops get away with crimes. These are the folks that should be held to a much higher standard.
Looking at the US.... watching the dumpster fire rage on for the last 10 years.... when Biden got elected... (and I absolutely KNEW this would be the case) ... I figured the Democrats and Biden... knowing and seeing what Trump did especially in his last year would responsibly make changes to how the Executive branch operated or at the very least TRY to make changes. They did nothing. Biden did nothing. If they really wanted to put country over party, they had 4 years to try to correct the fundamental flaws within how they operated. They didn't. Now Trump is back.... and here we are.

If one thing rings true about the folks who claim “uniparty”, it’s that all the checks and balances they say should be on their own group, goes out the window when they win. JT is a prime example of that: election reform.

Speaking as a resident of Ontario, Danielle Smith, may actually be worse than Doug Ford - yikes.
You knew she was not fit for public office when she said on camera that covid unvaccinated people were the most mistreated people in our country's history.
I long for the day when politicians are legitimately held accountable for their poor actions. The Alberta healthcare scandal is ridiculous like the Green Belt scandal here in Ontario. Politicians say stupid stuff, and mislead all the time, but when their decisions hurt others that's it. Charge them with neglect.
We're still waiting on the RCMP's report on its inquiry into the Ontario Greenbelt Scandal. Thanks to The Narwhal and other news outlets, that investigation was gift wrapped for the RCMP, and yet we wait, as the corruption and stupidity ensues in Ontario's PC majority government.
If you’re happy with the current status of life in Canada and the direction we have been heading for the past 10 years you’re more than likely to vote for Mr Carney. If you would like to see a change in the quality of life and the direction we are heading you’re more than likely to vote for Mr Poilievre. If you want Canada to slide directly off a cliff you’ll be voting for Mr Singh. It’s that simple. I know who I’m voting for.

Honestly it’s a summary of the conversations I’ve had with others and the comments directed towards me. Quite a few people will chew your ear off if you don’t stop them and sometimes I just let them talk away. Working in a grocery store you meet a pretty wide range of people from all backgrounds.

I don't agree with you. I know people who would normally vote Conservative but won't vote for PP because he is just a bit too far into MAGA land, even for a lot of people who largely lean towards many of his platform points. There are also many, many people who realize that Carney's Liberals will necessarily be totally different from Trudeau's Liberals, and also that very suddenly, everything has changed because of Trump. It's a whole new world in Canada compared to 2 months ago. As for NDP voters... that is a seriously biased opinion you have on that one, lol. I for one vote NDP because Singh is actually my MP, and having a federal leader as an MP actually brings benefits locally, plus there is value in supporting the 3rd party's leader when you don't want your country to end up like the USA with it's 2 party system. We're almost there already, so I think everyone should thank every riding that elects the NDP just to prevent that from happening completely.

I agree that the Liberals will be different under Mr Carney but only in a way that will further the goals of Mr Trudeau especially green energy initiatives. A few of the platform points that Mr Poilievre presented are now being used by the Liberals ie dropping the Carbon Tax, no gst for 1st home buyers etc. Mr Singh propped up the Liberals for nearly 2 years, attacking him on social media but doing absolutely nothing to bring the government down until his pension was guaranteed. I’m glad that he does good for Burnaby but he hasn’t done much for Canada. He’s more of a champagne socialist than the working class hero he’s portrayed to be. Haven’t thought to fondly of the way Mr Poilievre has gone about campaigning, the constant negativity doesn’t work for me. I think he’s a bit of a snake oil salesman.

I definitely think the NDP would benefit from a new leader, although while it's my MP, that's a bonus. I still want to support the NDP as the nation's 3rd party, especially because they are best for healthcare IMO. But boy, do I ever still miss Jack Layton.
Anyway, at the moment, the race is between Carney and PP anyhow, and PP is dragging because he's a creep who is coming off like a creep in his campaign, lol. It's off-putting to a lot of Canadians.

Our health care system is now woefully understaffed and underresourced.
Our housing has skyrocketed, allthough mostly on the West Coast and Southern Ontario.
Chronic structural deficits, and we're in an election campaign where both primary candidates are campaigning in higher spending and less taxes (shrug).
We have a Ferrel population of homeless drug addicts
The upside is we have an upcoming election, and still get to make a choice. Even if I lack faith that either option can improve things.
Upsides are we have lots of resources, a relatively small population, we lean socially left, seem less divided than America. Our right often has the problem that they're votes are concentrated in a few geographic areas of the Country, so without widespread support it's hard for them to get voted in.
I dunno. I'm in Elizabeth May's riding who I voted for in the last few elections because I wasn't supportive of the Liberals or Conservatives. This time I either keep with that, or vote Liberal. Which is crazy. Had the election been a few months ago I would of voted Conservative to get the Liberal party out. I still don't like it's a new leader with the same old party.
