We are getting a Carney, I hear he couldn’t wait to fire up the jet and put an ocean between him and his citizens.

As far as I can recall it was Justin Trudeau that instituted the practice of posting the PM’s agenda daily. I need to tip my hat to him for that since I appreciate it as a voter.
For what it’s worth, Justin’s agenda was generally posted late the day before (sometimes updated as events occurred), and I can’t believe that Carney’s agenda as PM is set similarly. My point was that it appears the posting of the PM’s agenda has stopped since it’s vanished as a category/option.
Just took a look and it’s still not there."The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."

The “chair” tradition seems lighthearted in nature at its core anyway, so it doesn’t seem out of step to me to act lightheartedly. In seriousness, the line gets chosen by the masses; the voting public. Most people weren’t as bothered by stuff like this as you were, maybe not bothered at all. Maybe I’ve been “fooled again by the master of manipulation” but to me this humanizes him, humanizes the office. And I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Good leaders, to me, are relatable (for better or worse, the same reason maga is so huge-they believe a billionaire who shits into a golden toilet is relatable), not put on a pedestal, where you’ve claimed he wants to be.Hugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall0 -

You’re absolutely right, it’s the masses that decide, unfortunately mob rule doesn’t have the best track record in the longer term, and often leads to some tragic unintended consequences (think lynchings and pogroms).
What you call relatable I call disgraceful. The best part as always is that we’re both right. Obi-Wan really had it right when he said the truth depends largely on one’s perspective (maybe entirely these days)."The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."

Stop focussing on the word outrage. I already explained the reason I used it, and probably should have used something softer in my explanation. Annoyance or something similar.I do respect your position. If I didn’t I wouldn’t be engaging with you. I find you incredibly knowledgeable in Canadian politics, historical and current events, we just come to a different opinion after processing them. Yes, I do believe you have a very high bias against JT that informs your opinions on his actions. I’ll level with you: yes, I don’t think I have as heavy a buas rither way cuz I just simply don’t care as much as you do. After 2016 I had to look at things through a more detached lens, as an emotional survival response. So sometimes if I come off as flippant, or even mocking, it’s for 1 of 3 reasons:
1. I don’t believe it’s worth getting worked up about
2. I honestly vehemently disagree
3. I don’t know what I’m talking about so I hide behind childish ribbings cuz I know I’m out of my depth.Yes, I know I do this and it’s something I work on. Sometimes I fail. Going forward don’t always assume it’s #3 btw. 😂. It’s much rarer now than it used to be. But I am still occasionally guilty of it.Hugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall0 -
And as for your last paragraph, I’ve been trying to hammer this home for months: we all have biases that we should all be more aware of. It would likely lead to more rational discussion. But your use of the word “disgraceful” honestly makes me think my use of the word “outrage” was applicable after all.Hugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall0

And no, your line doesn’t actually matter. Not on its own. Neither does mine. The mass’s line does. And correct, the masses do get it wrong sometimes. That’s why I’m a progressive. Do we get it wrong sometimes? Of course. But I still believe as long as the motive us pure, the mistakes are just a tool for learning along the way.Post edited by HughFreakingDillon onHugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall0

I appreciate what you’ve said, thank you, and I respect your sincerity.
If I’m being totally honest I just came in from puffing a joint and am a bit scrambled in terms of composing a reply, though it might do me well to explain myself a bit more, but I couldn’t just let your posts sit unacknowledged as I puff the evening away, lol.
Thanks again, Hugh, sorry to the group for derailing things."The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."

For him, in that moment it was just a room, not the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament, I get it.
This is some pretty crazy bias showing, lol. Your reaction to that photo is extremely unreasonable. The tradition is not a deadpan one. I would say that when parliament has a better sense of humour than you do about something, it's time to reflect a little bit.

Can someone help make this make sense to me? This is honestly baffling to me, this jet has now been chosen twice and further delays will only put our own pilots at risk, both from degrading equipment as well as in any combat against the enemy.
Where a large part of Trump’s rhetoric centring around continental defence this would open us up to more criticism. I also don’t see opportunities to align with the US in terms of equipment as a bad thing, if anything it’s the opposite. I’m partly trying to look beyond the next four years here.
I like to think I’d be equally baffled by a government of any stripe revisiting this decision for a third time.

Edit: The CBC version elaborates further on the government’s potential plans and revisiting the decision gets even worse in my opinion.
We’re committed for 16 of 88 jets, and it’s being looked at only taking the 16 and filling out the fleet with other jets. Hopefully the air force asks for consistency in its equipment and stresses the duplication of support that would be required.

I am pro- any and all reviews of current/upcoming contracts with the US, especially where defence is the topic. It would be irresponsible of any government NOT to look at all available options with true allies, especially where we acquire and maintain control of maintenance and upgrades.I understand the potential risks the added training brings. But with trump, I think the potential risks are even higher.Hugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall0

Edit: I should be clearer, reviewing contracts and such as a whole-of-government approach does make sense in the current climate, but the specific case of the F-35s should be left alone in my opinion.Post edited by DarthMaeglin on"The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."

I believe it's just the consumer part of carbon tax. Industrial carbon levy is still in place.

Right now he is in France and going to visit our King privately, along with the Indigenous these are the two countries on which Canada's bedrock was built.
