I mean we're still figuring it out up here too.

Our health care system is now woefully understaffed and underresourced.
Our housing has skyrocketed, allthough mostly on the West Coast and Southern Ontario.
Chronic structural deficits, and we're in an election campaign where both primary candidates are campaigning in higher spending and less taxes (shrug).
We have a Ferrel population of homeless drug addicts

The upside is we have an upcoming election, and still get to make a choice.  Even if I lack faith that either option can improve things.

Upsides are we have lots of resources, a relatively small population, we lean socially left, seem less divided than America.   Our right often has the problem that they're votes are concentrated in a few geographic areas of the Country, so without widespread support it's hard for them to get voted in.

I dunno.  I'm in Elizabeth May's riding who I voted for in the last few elections because I wasn't supportive of the Liberals or Conservatives.   This time I either keep with that, or vote Liberal.  Which is crazy.  Had the election been a few months ago I would of voted Conservative to get the Liberal party out.   I still don't like it's a new leader with the same old party.

Just another way us sneaky Canadians are taking advantage of the US.

Yale professor who studies fascism fleeing US to work in Canada

Jason Stanley, who says grandmother fled Berlin with his father in 1939, says US may become ‘fascist dictatorship’

    Not ominous at all.

I hope the European nations and Canada conspire to counter these absurd tariffs.  The whole thing is so embarrassing.

My take for what it's worth...

We (Canada) need to tread a bit lightly here. Trump is either absolutely bonkers stupid crazy...  or he has some nefarious plans up his sleeve. Both important and both serious in my opinion considering he's the POTUS.

That said... anything we (Canada) plan to do would likely have far reaching and long lasting impacts.  It's the long lasting that worries me.

Considering how nuts Trump is... it's a pretty good bet that his power doesn't last long. Even if he maintains his presidency for 3 or so more years... what happens after that?  As a Canadian, I don't love the idea of severing ties with the U.S. entirely because of this clown.

It'd be like finding a rebound relationship just to get back at your ex. Sounds amazing and while it would sure be fun at the time.... if you mislead the rebound.. that could backfire and haunt you. Especially is he/she realizes you're just using them to get back at your ex.

I feel pretty confident saying that it's both.
I think what happens after Trump, if he doesn't get a 3rd term, is that Vance becomes president, which isn't much better, if at all. His goals are similar and probably even more insane. He'd be even more dangerous, because he could come off as more sane, even though that isn't really the case.

My expectations is that this "war" is going to run its course in the matter of 18 months at the most.  By that time, the pressure from a recession or stagflation will either lead to flip in the House and/or too much pressure on Trump.  What I don't think is going to happen is that businesses in US, Canada, and the EU will disassemble their integrated manufacturing economies and completely build protected economies.  We are going to have some serious pain, but the business leaders do not believe that we are going to a protected/tariff oriented economy long-term.

This whole tariff battle is just ridiculous. At this point we should just do the opposite of retaliatory.  Drop all tariffs on the US, look like we’re playing nice and he will think he’s won. If he doesn’t remove his tariffs then we have every right to surcharge our exports, including oil.

Like Iran, Canada and the EU can never trust ‘Murica again. The white Christian nationalists, backed by the billionaire class and an apartheid era “richest” techbro electing COOTWH and the previous SCOTUS buy, ‘Murica is broken, not to be trusted nor relied upon. It’s over and not coming back to what it was before. Whatever that was. A dream?

    ^ Flex. Danish next?

We need an Americans kill for rare earth minerals and fresh water thread.

I always thought wars would get good when we start fighting for water rather than oil. Although I didn't see the mineral thing coming when I was the kid.

The water wars are inevitable I think. My only solace is that it might not happen until after I'm dead. That sad hope is weakening by the day, just because a certain orange oaf seems ready to jump the gun.
