    This is why people hate insurance. That CEO obviously didn't deserved to get killed, but its pretty easy to hate the guys guts when they make money off letting you and your loved ones suffer.
    I mentioned the other day the hoops we have to jump through for medication.
    A few years back they required "Dr authorization" to fulfill my wife's Humira. I mean, that's what a prescription is, but whatever.
    They told us what to do, get our dr to fax this form in. We do, we call insurance, they can't confirm if they received it or not, we're told we just have to wait.
    A month goes by and were denied because they never received said form. We call customer service and were told "o, that was the wrong number, he needs to fax it to this number instead." We do, we cal back, were told again they can't confirm if they received it, we have to wait.
     month goes by, were denied again. We call customer service ad were told "o, the doctor isn't supposed to fax that in, he has to call this number and speak to a representative...."
    This goes on for 6 months. Why wife is without her arthritis medication for 6 months (luckily her doctor was really nice and gave her some emergency doses on the house in the meantime). We're told this one more time after 6 months and I get on the phone and I just say
    "We've been playing this game for 6 months. We were told to fax this number, then call that number and so on. If our medication isn't here next week you will be hearing from an attorney."
    His response was "please hold......I just spoke to my manager and I put in an over-ride and you will have your medication sent to you tomorrow."
    Its absolutely ridiculous that they delay and deny until you say the magic word "attorney."
    And people are making billions off doing this.  I'm not really surprised the CEO was targeted.

    I've read differing reports of what words were inscribed on the live rounds and spent casings recovered at the scene. Some sources report "deny", "defend", "depose" while others report "deny", "delay", "depose". Either way, it suggests that the killer was aware of this book. Unfortunately, it must not have been very helpful.

    Insurance companies are only maddening because you don't have to deal with the providers and pharma companies directly

    And FYI I'm only defending insurance companies relative to the other spokes of the healthcare wheel. Believe me they have their own issues. I'm arm wrestling with Blue Cross right now but the reality is they're 50% to blame and the hospital is 50% to blame.

    Good point.  The costs of surgeries and ER visits are crazy.  And the price of something as basic as an ibuprofen is criminal.

The one you posted says the shooter "escaped" NYC.  Others have said he "Left", NYC.  A small thing in of itself, but on the grand scale, this is why reading widely is the best way to get a little closer to the really of events out there.  Nothing new here- I watch a short film made about this subject in a college class about 54 years ago.  It's been happening for ages!

    NYPD believes it has found backpack of CEO gunman in Central Park

    Investigators in New York City believe they have found the backpack used by the gunman sought in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson during a Friday search of Central Park.

    Investigators say the gunman went into Central Park after the shooting with his backpack on and a short time later came out without it. The bag was found not far from the popular park carousel.

    Authorities were sweeping the park to find the bag, searching through lakes and ponds, meadows, playgrounds and a densely wooded section called “The Ramble.”

    As dusk approached Friday, small groups of officers could be seen roaming among trees across ground covered with leaves.

    Video of the gunman fleeing Wednesday’s shooting showed him riding a bicycle into Central Park and later taking a taxi to a bus terminal that offers commuter service to New Jersey and Greyhound routes to Philadelphia, Boston and Washington, D.C, Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny told reporters earlier.

    The glee is cringe because we should never celebrate murder, but I’m not gonna deny people the schadenfreude. Our HC system is so fucked up top to bottom (to say nothing of the insurance industry in general or America’s need of some tort reform), so many people have been affected aversely by the system, I get them looking at this as some comeuppance.

    I wonder what the NDP would say to that, are they satisfied with available care in Canada? Access to a GP? ER wait times? Specialist wait times?

    Hey Google, what country has the longest wait times for healthcare?

    The American insurance system has its challenges, but overall The majority of Americans have access to the best healthcare - which country is more responsible than the United States in developing new procedures, new treatments, and new medicine?
