A couple of them are okay, but hopefully not like 5 festivals and that’s it.Although I’d be happy for the younger fans that can still swing standing at festivals for a full day, for the majority of fans around their age, doing festivals only would be the same as never touring again. It’s just not realistic to expect a fan Ed’s or Jeff’s age to spend a full day standing at a festival.
They could achieve almost the same thing with playing four show mini residencies. For any given year, a couple or a few four show residencies in Seattle, LA, NY or Bos or London, playing 8 or 12 arena shows a year max (in places that can sell out 20,000 capacity shows) would be a much better PJ experience and more accessible for fans as well.
They play festivals because they make a ton of money for a single short set. Why would they do more shows and play much longer? I am close to their age and I love when they play festivals. I don't stand all day. Fans have been hoping for residencies, 10C only shows etc. for years and they just do not happen. Everyone would love if they played multiple nights at arenas close to their home.
I think their economics are a bit different nowadays.. With limited shows for any particular year and a 4 night run they can pull in $20 million gross in one city with ane average price $250 including premiums, and have better merch stats also
Festivals work better internationally, and my bet is they make more in the US big cities with packed arenas and some dynamic pricing
But perhaps that's not the reason to pick arenas over festivals. Maybe it's acknowledgement the clock is ticking, we are running out of time to all be together,,and a house full of PJ fans is a million times better for them and for us than sharing the venue with Beyonce fans or any other festival co-headliner.
Not sure that math works as they do not do four night runs. Arena runs mean they need to be onstage for much longer, which is not the current trend. I doubt they make 10 mil for an MSG or a Philly 2 night run. But maybe they do since they sell a TON of merch. They do not share revenue with Beyonce fans. They get a fat fee plus merch for festivals amd ballparks. I think you speak from a fan perspective rather than a band perspective. Nothing wrong with that. A house full of PJ fans is better for us, but maybe they like playing to 60,000 people when they are getting 2m plus merch for a two hour set (30 mins more for ballparks, and minus the Ed rant of course)It is all speculation, but it seems to me that is the trend.
I can't remember the last time they toured and a high percentage of the shows were festival shows.
Even in Europe they play more of their own shows than festivalsKearnsy0 -

Not sure I have heard it anywhere else. Alaska would be way too expensive for most people to attend and it is a tertiary market. I could see them doing a destination weekend like one big holiday at some point. Maybe Hawaii ($$$$) or Montana. I think the anniversaries mean more to us fans than the band. But anyway, if they are doing dates in the spring, I would expect an announcement after the down under leg is finished.
Montana is also a great choice. I'm excited to go to the next Missoula show.
The dream manifestation works sometimes. For Ohana, I posted the lyrics to Gremmie in my Hummus thread, and Gremmie got played that night. That was amazing."I like beautiful melodies telling me terrible things" - Tom Waits

The only PJ celebration at this point should be (if they ever get there) PJ50. now back to rumours please0
-
The reason I think PJ35 would be great is because the band sounds better than they ever have right now. Ed has been wearing the 34 jersey and the seemed like a hint to me. If they did PJ35 then I doubt they would do another PJ## after that.I'm spinning, oh-oh-oh I'm spinning0
