Lol. I can't get over it. I've listened to it probably 10 times today trying to figure out what people are liking. Nope, still terrible. Guys: Vs. isn't coming back. That was over 30 years ago. This is ... kind of what 60-year-old rock bands sound like? I would be so embarrassed if they were still trying to write Blood 2 or something. I'm glad they've softened with age. Most of us do.

I just dont think Pearl Jam has been very successful in their attempts to reinvent themselves. I still love them though.

I'm also a big fan of radiohead/thom Yorke and Wilco...two artists who also came up in a similar Era as Pj, and both of whom I think are still recording brilliant and inspiring music. This pop version of Pearl Jam is just falling flat to me.

This is really interesting. My holy trinity of bands are, in order, Pearl Jam, Wilco and Radiohead. I've seen Pearl Jam 70 times. I've seen Wilco 52 times, and Jeff Tweedy almost 100 times (including from the front row four times in five nights just this past week). My first Wilco show was in June 1995. I was a fan when there were very few fans. I attended many sparsely attended Wilco shows in the '90s. So I say this with as much Wilco literacy as a person can have: the three albums released from 2015 to 2019, Star Wars, Schmilco and Ode to Joy are the clear low point in the Wilco catalog. Thankfully, Cruel Country and Cousin reversed the trend. And as much as I love Radiohead, they have released two albums since 2007 and, while those two albums are underappreciated, they are also not at the level of the albums from The Bends through In Rainbows.

So, mileage varies.

EDIT: I just noticed you said "Thom Yorke/Radiohead," so you may be referring to his solo work and/or The Smile here, although I still don't think any of that holds a candle to Radiohead's output from 1995 through 2007.

You should have said this the first time. You like your music complicated. I get it. I used to be this way.

Me, I don't necessarily need to be impressed by my favorite bands anymore. Just moved. A song doesn't have to be complicated to do that to me. Three chords and the truth works, too. 

No you don't get it. But you are full of assumptions to validate your defensiveness over someone else's opinion of someone else's art for some reason.

I don't mean any offense on this, because I get it, and not everyone is going to like everything and that is ok. But I think it's probably because you continue to offer your opinion that the song sucks. And to the level in which it sucks.

Which is fine,  too, but just expect some blowback from people who are genuinely moved by the song. 

Usually when I love something, I tend to gush over it. When I dislike something, I tend to just not say anything, or give my opinion and move on from it.

That's a good point, and im going to lay off of it. I may have gotten a litrle carried away....I just love the band like everyone else on here, so when they put something out that I think is a dud...its extra disappointing to me.

I was just starting to warm up to dark matter and running. This one, I don't think I'll ever warm up to as it's just not aligned with my taste in any way. Like Sirens cousin or something. 

I was worried when people compared this to Petty. I can understand that, but I don't hear or associate this with Petty at all. I like the song and think it's a good tune. This album is going to be accessible to casual listeners. Some upbeat tempos that have a real summer day vibe. I literally thought of listening to this song with the windows down on a hot summer day last night when I first heard it. Just a flowing groove throughout that builds.
